Early Supporters Sir William Bull (British Solicitor and Politician) insists that the site be in the centre of the Empire The Begum (Queen) of Bhopal donates 1000 to the London Mosque Fund in 1911
Early Trustees Prominent British educationist and writer Sir Theodore Morison was the first Chairman of The London Mosque Fund. Lord Nathan Mayer Rothschild, First Baron Rothschild becomes a trustee of the London Mosque Fund. After the death of Lord Nathan Rothschild in 1915, the Rt. Hon. Lord Lamington replaces him as a trustee and serves as Vice Chairman. Following death of Rt. Hon Justice Ameer Ali he then becomes the chairman of the London Mosque Fund in 1928
Distinguished military officer and retired head of the Royal Air Force, Major Gen. The Rt. Hon. Sir Frederick Hugh Sykes becomes a trustee in 1936 Earl Winterton becomes a trustee Professor T. W. Arnold joins the London Mosque Fund Executive Committee Colonel Stewart Newcombe is made Joint Hon. Secretary along with Sir Ernest Hotson Sir John Woodhead is made Hon. Treasurer
Notable Contributors Famous translator of The Holy Quran, Abdullah Yusuf Ali is elected as a member of the London Mosque Fund Executive Committee in 1921. Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall is appointed acting Imam of the Notting Hill Mosque and Islamic Cultural Centre, funded by the London Mosque Fund in 1919.
Opening of the East London Mosque Officially opened Friday 1 st August 1941 with Jumu ah prayer led by His Excellency Sheikh Hafiz Wahba, Ambassador of Saudi Arabia. The following Friday the Rt. Hon. Leo Amery, Secretary of State for India pays an informal visit where he creates great enthusiasm by reciting the first chapter of the Holy Qur an from beginning to end flawlessly.
