Order of Service for the Fourteenth Sunday after Pentecost Welcome: Pastor Marc E Nauman The altar flowers are from Carl and Sharon Beyer in memory of Dr. K Bible Verse for August A righteous man may have many troubles, but the Lord delivers him from them all - Psalm 34:19 Children s Blessing (10:30 a.m. service) Invocation P In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit C Amen. Introit Ps. 26:1-2, 6-7; antiphon: Ps. 26:8 P O Lord, I love the habitation of Your house and the place where Your glory dwells. C Vindicate me, O Lord, for I have walked in my integrity, and I have trusted in the Lord without wavering. P Prove me, O Lord, and try me; test my heart and my mind. C I wash my hands in innocence and go around Your altar, O Lord, proclaiming thanksgiving aloud! P I will tell of all Your wondrous deeds! A Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit; as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be forever. Amen. P O Lord, I love the habitation of Your house and the place where Your Glory dwells. 2

Opening Hymn Saturday Service: Your Love is Amazing 8:30 a.m. Service: #908 Lord, Open Now My Heart to Hear 10:30 a.m. Service: Come as You Are The Confession and Forgiveness P Blessed is he whose help is the God of Jacob, C whose hope is in the LORD his God. P The LORD sets prisoners free, C The LORD lifts up those who are bowed down, the LORD loves the righteous. (Silence for reflection and self-examination) C Heavenly Father, I confess to you my many and constant sins. I have not always remained humble before you. I cannot produce the righteousness you demand. I deserve your judgment. But I am sorry for my sins and repent of them. I cling to Your mercy given to us in Jesus Christ. By Your Holy Spirit teach us true humility and true obedience to Your Word. Amen. Absolution of Sins Hymn of Response Saturday Service: White as Snow 8:30 a.m. Service: #433 Glory Be to Jesus 10:30 a.m. Service: Be Thou My Vision The Collect of the Day P Almighty and merciful God, defend Your Church from all false teaching and error, that Your faithful people may confess You to be the only true God and rejoice in Your good gifts of life and salvation; through Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord, who lives and reign with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever, C Amen 3

The Reading of God s Word: Isaiah 29:13-16 And the Lord said: "Because this people draw near with their mouth and honor me with their lips, while their hearts are far from me, and their fear of me is a commandment taught by men, therefore, behold, I will again do wonderful things with this people, with wonder upon wonder; and the wisdom of their wise men shall perish, and the discernment of their discerning men shall be hidden." Ah, you who hide from the Lord your counsel, whose deeds are in the dark, and who say, "Who sees us? Who knows us?" You turn things upside down! Shall the potter be regarded as the clay that the thing made should say of its maker, "He did not make me"; or the thing formed say of him who formed it, "He has no understanding? R This is the Word of the Lord. C Thanks be to God. R The Holy Gospel according to St. Mark, the 7th Chapter. C Glory to You, O Lord. The Gospel: Mark 7:1-9 Now when the Pharisees gathered to him, with some of the scribes who had come from Jerusalem, they saw that some of his disciples ate with hands that were defiled, that is, unwashed. (For the Pharisees and all the Jews do not eat unless they wash their hands, holding to the tradition of the elders, and when they come from the marketplace, they do not eat unless they wash. And there are many other traditions that they observe, such as the washing of cups and pots and copper vessels and dining couches.) And the Pharisees and the scribes asked him, "Why do your disciples not walk according to the tradition of the elders, but eat with defiled hands?" And he said to them, "Well did Isaiah prophesy of you hypocrites, as it is written, "'This people honors me with their lips, but their heart is far from me; in vain do they worship me, teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.' You leave the commandment of God and hold to the tradition of 4

men." And he said to them, "You have a fine way of rejecting the commandment of God in order to establish your tradition! R This is the Gospel of the Lord. C Praise to You, O Christ. The Apostle s Creed I believe in God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth. And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day He rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty. From thence He will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen. Hymn of the Day 8:30 a.m. Service: #703 How Can I Thank You, Lord The Message: The Academy Awards Prayers of the Church P Lord, in Your Mercy C Hear our prayer! The Lord s Prayer Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name, Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven; give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever. Amen. Offering The Noisy Offering supports Trinity s Youth Group If you are a first-time visitor, please fill out a visitor s card & place it in the offering. 5

The Lord s Supper P The Lord be with you. C And also with you. P Lift up your hearts. C We lift them to the Lord. P Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. C It is right to give Him thanks and praise. Admonition & Sharing of the Lord s Peace Sanctus Saturday Service: Remember Me 10:30 a.m. Service: Good, Good Father Words of Institution P Our Lord Jesus Christ, on the night when he was betrayed, took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and gave it to the disciples and said: Take, eat; this is my body, which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of me. In the same way, after supper, he took the cup and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them, saying: Drink of it, all of you; this cup is the new covenant in my blood, which is shed for you for the forgiveness of sins. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me. Pax Domini The Peace of the Lord The Distribution of the Bread and Wine Distribution Hymn 8:30 a.m. Service: #620 Jesus Comes Today with Healing Post Communion Collect C We give thanks to you, Almighty God, that you have refreshed us through this Sacrament. TRINITY Announcements, con t Trinity Lutheran has joined with Eckerd Community Alternatives in the Faith-based Champions for Children Initiative to pray for the successful placement of Yaromie. Yaromie (born 12/22/2002) wants to serve her country as a Marine someday. But for now, Yaromie is happiest when she gets to hang out with her friends, as well as watch movies, like her favorite, Captain Underpants. She also loves going to the mall, mostly to look at shoes, especially if they are Converse. Yaromie also loves the colors red and black, the TV show Catfish, and Fetty Wap. At school, her favorite subjects are reading, math and history. If you re serving pizza or tacos, Yaromie is there, but she will pass on sandwiches. Yaromie s ideal family will have parents who like to spend time together as a family playing Monopoly on rainy days or going to the park or beach when it s sunny out. Siblings would be a bonus. For inquiries on Yaromie or other children who are available for adoption or for information on becoming a foster parent or adoptive parent, call 1-866-233-0790 or visit www.eckerd.org or www.heartgallerykids.org. Prayer Time: Pastor Marc and/or the Elders are available after each service for personal prayer time. Please express your desire for prayer to Pastor or an Elder.
