C: The blessed gift of heaven. Hymn 67: What Child Is This (Children: 1-2; Congregation: 3) The Christmas Meditation Offering

The Message Presented by the Children Speaker 1: Now the birth of Jesus Christ took place in this way. When His mother Mary had been betrothed to Joseph, before they came together she was found to be with child from the Holy Spirit. And her husband Joseph, being a just man and unwilling to put her to shame, resolved to divorce her quietly. But as he considered these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, Joseph, son of David, do not fear to take Mary as your wife, for that which is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. She will bear a son, and you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins. Speaker 2: All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had spoken by the prophet: Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and they shall call His name Immanuel (which means, God with us). When Joseph woke from sleep, he did as the angel of the Lord commanded him: he took his wife, but knew her not until she had given birth to a son. And he called His name Jesus (Matthew 1:18 25). Hymn 35: Of the Father s Love Begotten (Soloist: 1; Children: 2; Soloist: 3; Congregation: 4-5) Group 1: Children: Congregation: Our God gave us a promise true: His Son would come for me and you. His grace and peace to us will bring: This Prince of peace, this holy King. To us a Child is born! To us a Son is given! Hymn 706: A Stable Lamp Is Lighted (Children: 1-2; Congregation: 3-4) 3.) Yet he shall be forsaken And yielded up to die; The sky shall groan and darken, And ev ry stone shall cry. And ev ry stone shall cry For stony heaets of men; God s blood upon the spearhead, God s love refused again. 4.) But now, as at the ending, The low is lifted high; The stars shall bend their voices, And ev ry stone shall cry. And ev re stone shall cry In praises of the child By whose descent among us The world is reconciled.

Speaker 3: And in the same region there were shepherds out in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. And an angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were filled with great fear. And the angel said to them, Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. Speaker 4: For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. And this will be a sign for you: you will find a baby wrapped in swaddling cloths and lying in a manger. And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying, Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace among those with whom He is pleased! (Luke 2:8-14). Group 2: Children: Congregation: Hymn 63: Angels We Have Heard on High (Children: 1-2; Congregation: 3) The angels fill the nighttime air To sing and joyfully declare: All praise to God in majesty; He sent his Son to set you free! To us a Child is born! To us a Son is given! Hymn 54: Where Shepherds Lately Knelt (Congregation: 1-2) Speaker 5: When the angels went away from them into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, Let us go over to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has made known to us. And they went with haste and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby lying in a manger. Speaker 6: And when they saw it, they made known the saying that had been told them concerning this child. And all who heard it wondered at what the shepherds told them. But Mary treasured up all these things, pondering them in her heart. And the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all they had heard and seen, as it had been told them (Luke 2:15-20).

Group 1: Children: Congregation: Hymn 54: Where Shepherds Lately Knelt (Congregation: 3-4) O shepherds, go and see the sight The angels gladly share this night. For Jesus is the holy Lamb, The Son of God, the great I Am. And he is your Good Shepherd too; He will lay down his life for you. So listen to his voice each day: He is the truth, the life, the way. To us a Child is born! To us a Son is given! Speaker 7: For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the increase of his government and of peace there will be no end, on the throne of David and over his kingdom, to establish it and to uphold it with justice and with righteousness from this time forth and forevermore. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will do this (Isaiah 9:6-7). Hymn 80: Angels from the Realms of Glory (Children: 1 Congregation: 2) Apostles Creed C: I believe in God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day he rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty. From there he will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

Group 2: Children: Congregation: For unto us a Child is born; He came to sinners all forlorn. When we were trapped in sin and shame, He made us pure and took our blame. This gift from God, this holy Son Died on the cross, salvation won. When he arose, he saved us all. Rejoicing, to our knees we fall! To us a Child is born! To us a Son is given! Minister: To us... Children: A child is born! Congregation: Thanks be to God! Minister: To us... Children: A Son is given! Congregation: Thanks be to God! Minister: This Christmas we receive... Children: The blessed gift if heaven! Congregation: Thanks be to God! Prayer M: Let us pray. C: Father in heaven, thank you for sending us your Son and our Savior, Jesus. Thank you for sending us the best gift of all: the Child in the manger who lived, died, and rose again for us. In his name we pray. Amen. Benediction M: The Lord bless you and keep you in the peace of his Son. May the blessing of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit be with you every day as you receive his gifts and promises. C: Amen. Recessional Hymn 62: Joy to the World
