Galilee in Transition Galilee Lutheran Church 4652 Mountain Road, Pasadena, MD 21122 www.galileelutheranchurch.org 410-255-8236 Nov. 24 & 25, 2018 GREETINGS! This adapted newsletter will serve as Galilee leadership s communication of important info regarding this season of transition at Galilee. We ask that in addition to reading through this, that you would cover our congregation in prayer in this time of change ~ Emily Phoenix, Dir. of Discipleship Many Blessings to Celebrate at Galilee Lutheran Preschool! BY: Jennifer Farrelly Preschool Director CLEAN UP TIME- On November 17th the church and preschool gathered together to clean up the property. A special thanks goes out to Jim Burke and Emily Phoenix for helping to coordinate a team of church members who helped clean up the playground and church property as well. Thank you to Gary and Sara Thomas, Jerry Poling, Bruce and Kathy Bauer, Rob and Barb Schwarz, Joan Teakle, Anna Smith, Gary Bohlman and Steve Hause for donating your time to the property. The playground looks wonderful! CHRISTMAS BLESSINGS- The preschool has once again partnered with Lutheran Mission Society and participated in the Miracle of Christmas project. Preschool families and staff have collected food and personal items which will be donated to the families they adopted. The adopted families will also receive a box of gifts which were donated by the preschool. We hope you will join us to celebrate the birth of our Savior, Jesus, with our Christmas presentations. See the calendar insert for the dates and times! THE FOCUS OF OUR TEACHING THIS MONTH has been being thankful and showing appreciation for all that we have. Each class celebrated Thanksgiving with a feast and shared what they are thankful for. On Monday, November 20, the 4 year old class enjoyed their feast. OUTREACH TO OVER 125 KIDS made Galilee s 6th Annual Trunk or Treat event a success! We ran out of goody bags and candy! Thanks to all the trunksters as well as volunteers from the Outreach & Education ministry teams! PICTURED: Dave and Vicki Eden passed out candy and decorated their trunk for the event.
New Member Welcome & Congregational Budget Meeting We invite you to join us on the Sunday December 9, welcoming new members in worship and at 9:30am to review and vote on the 2019 congregational budget. Renovation Reaches the Home Stretch From the President s Desk Blessings and greetings from Bob Cosler, Gary Thomas, Renovation Team Chair As many of you have no doubt noticed, the renovation work is moving along very well. Again, thank you to the entire Galilee family for your cooperation and patience with the temporarily worship in the fellowship hall. Good news! We plan to be back in the Sanctuary to worship the weekend of 8 and 9 December! The outside work will most likely take a bit longer given the bad weather we have had the past month. Hurrah, some very exciting news to bring you! We received a letter from President John Denninger that included an initial list of pastors that fit the Congregational Profile that we submitted. The list includes those Galileenominated pastors that are available for call as well (two out of five). To give you some idea, of the difficulty in creating such a list, it includes only 8 pastors drawn from a nationwide list. In addition two seminarians are listed. The list along with the profiles of all those available to be called has been forwarded to the Call Committee and I have requested a date and time from the committee members for our next meeting. We will be reviewing the profiles, each about ten pages in length, and selecting those that the Call Committee would like to interview. Most of the painting is complete. The beautiful new narthex ceiling is installed and the carpet and laminate flooring is going down Thanksgiving week. Pews will be installed on November 26th. The electric and sound/media work should be complete by the first week in December. Unfortunately, an issue with the chairs is pushing the chairs delivery out to just before Christmas. In the mean time, we will temporarily move the chairs in the fellowship hall to the sanctuary for worship. Please keep the committee in your prayers, daily. God is working wonders in transition at Galilee and we need to be sure that we communicate with Him with thanksgiving and praise. Thank you again for your patience and understanding as the work continues. We covet your prayers and support throughout the work that progress goes smoothly and finishes when planned. Parking lot repair planning is also in process. We will be meeting with the engineer on December 6 to review his proposed plans for repaving in the spring. A NEW LOOK BRIGHTENS THE SPACE in both the Narthex with the ceilings redone and the brick painted, as well as new flooring and carpet in the sanctuary.

The Christmas Mail Store is a fundraising service that Galilee Youth and parents provide during the Advent and early Christmas season. For 25 cents, Galilee members can send a Christmas greeting to any other Galilee member. Put the card and quarter in the box on the Mail Store table in the narthex (lobby). Youth will sort the cards and post names on the You've Got Mail board for the recipient so watch the display. When you see your last name, go to the mail store and ask the youth for your cards! We hope to see many cards and many happy Galileans during the Advent and Christmas seasons.
