HEAR, O ISRAEL... ALL ARE WELCOME Whether you are young or old, rich or poor, doubtful or hopeful no matter where you are in your faith journey, YOU are welcome here. For those with children, be assured that noises and wiggling are signs of a church that is alive and growing; your entire family is welcome in worship. ORDER OF WORSHIP NOVEMBER 2, 2014 Prelude My Soul, Now Bless Thy Maker Jan Bender Welcome to The Peoples Church! Rev. Andrew Pomerville Invitation to Advent Tea Women of Peoples Church Ruth Ann Ference Artistic Introit (10:30 a.m.) The Highland Fling Traditional Highland Dancers accompanied by Bill Collins, bagpipes Call to Worship Jan Cox, liturgist Let us start this service well, by reminding ourselves: That it is not we who chose Christ, but Christ who chose us, That we are not here because of our goodness, but because of Christ s grace, That we are not here to enlighten ourselves, but to allow Christ to enlighten us, That we have not come to be entertained, but to worship God with heart, soul, mind and strength. Gathering Hymn A Mighty Fortress Is Our God No. 275 (Please stand if able.) Procession of the Light of Christ (10:30 a.m.) Raleigh Canady & Karli Gonzales, acolytes Dedication of Operation Christmas Child Shoe Boxes Gracious God, we ask that these Operation Christmas Child Shoe Boxes be received by children and families who long for hope and love. Help our gifts of compassion and hospitality be multiplied in the hands of brothers and sisters across the world. (Continued)

Let these gifts be our response to your call to love one another. And make our hearts full with your generosity so we continue to share the life giving gospel through our service, our prayers, our words, and our actions. Let us be united: We pray your Holy Spirit will remind us of all our brothers and sisters in this world who long for safety, grace, and joy. As we remember the gift of your son, Jesus Christ, help us remember your ongoing presence in this world. Through our resurrected savior we pray. Amen. Celebration of Baptism (10:30 a.m.) Grace Tyler Born on May 16, 2014 Daughter of Christopher & Lisa Tyler We believe the teachings of Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, and with the help of God, we will strive daily to live the life of purity, unselfishness and service which He exemplified to the world. Sermon Always a Hypocrite Rev. Andrew Pomerville Prayers of the People (During the pastoral prayer there will be a time to offer prayers of joy and concern, voiced aloud or silently for and on behalf of others.) Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen. Be Amazed Jim & Lisa Kost, Co-chairs Annual Campaign 2015 Thanksgiving & A Mighty Fortress is Our God arr. Johann Walther Dedication of Gifts Act of Praise Praise God, from whom all blessings flow; Praise God, all creatures here below; Praise God above, ye heavenly host; Praise Father, Son and Holy Ghost. Amen. Prayer of Dedication Christ Jesus, help us share the Gospel, and ourselves too, with the ones you give us to serve. Let us be gentle with them, as a nursing mother cares for her children. If tassels, fine clothes, and terms of respect can help us to serve others with warmth, then put tassels all over us. But since humility must undergird all service, then let our real place of honor be in the very last place with you.
