Give thanks to the Lord and proclaim his greatness. Let the whole world know what he has done. 1 Chronicles 16:8 Greetings to the Church Saint James of Sarasota, grace and peace to you all from God Your Father who loves you. As I write this the cooler air has finally arrived and it is feeling like fall in Sarasota. This is a reminder that Thanksgiving is around the corner and Christmas is not far behind Thanksgiving. But this month I want to share a practice I do every year in the month of November. I keep a journal of thanksgiving things for which I am thankful to God. Now you would think this is pretty easy and truthfully for about the first seven days it is. But it is when you are 20 days in and all the obvious answers have been given, we get to the heart of our deepest thanksgiving. Here are some of the things I know will be on my list this year. I am thankful for my husband and partner in ministry Rod, our 7 children, 8 grandchildren, good health, our home and our dog. I am thankful that I have been called to serve Saint James and the surrounding community. I am thankful I can serve on Mission trips and in the various ministries we have going. And I am most thankful for God, who loves me, saves me through the precious blood of Jesus Christ and fills me with His Holy Spirit to guide and correct me, comfort and strengthen me, and love me forever. WEDNESDAY NIGHTS WINTER SCHEDULE First Wednesday of the each month will be a covered dish dinner at 5:45 in the fellowship hall. Worship at 6:30 followed by Doing Life Together groups at 7:00 pm Come on out and center on Jesus. Fellowship Hall Building We would like to spruce up the Fellowship Hall over the next few months to allow us to make use of it and for other groups to use that area for meetings. We would appreciate any monetary contributions to purchase paint, painting supplies, floor stripper and wax for the floors. Okay, those are a few things I am thankful for this year. There are many more and if you are on Facebook, look at my page every day to see my journal of thankfulness. What will your journal of thankfulness list? I would love if you would share that with me. And always remember that I am grateful for each of you. Praying in attitude of gratitude this month, Pastor Shirley

We Are A Praying People! Please remember the following in your prayers this month. Connect To be a family of believers who connect to God and each other Care To shine the light of Christ and welcome all we encounter encouraging worship, life groups, and spiritual growth. Scott, all of our elected officials, Pastor Shirley & Rod, our staff, our church leaders, our Cub Scouts, Betty Galvez, Margaret Hackett, Bill & Bernice Highberger, Harvey and Carlene Howze, Betty Johnson, Bill & Rose Johnson, Karen Kerhli Commit To grow in faith through service to others both locally and globally. CORE VALUES: Loving Relationships: Honest & loving relationships: With God through a worshipful attitude and prayer With others through acceptance and grace to all Spiritual Growth Grow with the help and guidance of the Holy Spirit in a biblically centered, nurturing environment Compassionate Service Teamwork Offering help to others with humility and mutual respect This year we will have a prayer focus each month. Please pray for these things daily. November s prayer focus will be: To keep all current members To sell the blessed property To experience generous giving No more equipment repairs needed this year Accomplish ministry in the context of relationships.

Did you know? Because of your hospitality we have welcomed the Meadows Chorus back to rehearse and have their concert in the spring Because of your generosity we have provided funds to UMCOR to help the victims of Hurricane Michael. Because of your generosity we provide food for the Mayor s Feed the Hungry program on a regular basis Because of your faithfulness, we are making a difference in the community that surrounds us. God is moving in wonderful ways. We just wanted to make sure you knew! Below is a Facebook post by Tammy Burns the day Kathy Barbour delivered the items we collected through the month of September for the clients and staff of The Remnant Café. This shows what an impact we are having in the community. I stand in awe most days of how God provides for our every need at Remnant Cafe, but today was particularly overwhelming! St. James church brought us several bottles of laundry soap, body wash, shampoo, conditioner, razors, deodorant, lots of socks & underwear. We were blown away! Then, we happened to be in the cafe a bit after closing and someone called to drop off about 15 backpacks, more razors, more deodorant, MORE socks. We are so thankful to God and those that acted as his hands and feet today. You have no idea what a blessing these things will be to those we serve. We welcome all children and grandchildren to our Kingdom Kids class at 10:00 a.m. during the worship service. We are doing fun activities! We also have an Adult Class that meets before Worship please join them at 8:45 in the west wing.

Daylight Savings Time ends November 4, 2018. Remember to set your clocks back one hour before you go to bed. Kneedle Knots If you would like to learn to knit or crochet or already know how we have a group for you. The Kneedle Knots will be meeting November 5 th and 19th at 6:30 p.m. in the library. Group Trips Yoga Classes The first group trip will be January 26, 2019 to the Holy Land Experience in Orlando. Stay tuned for details in future newsletters and bulletins! We have engaged a yoga instructor, Marjorie Crawford, there is a $5 fee for each session. The classes are held in the Fellowship Hall building. Everyone who will be taking the yoga classes will need to purchase and bring a yoga mat (available at Target or Walmart). Those who are doing the mat yoga classes will also need an exercise strap, belt or towel. Yoga Class Schedule Tuesdays: Thursdays: 3:30 p.m. 3:30 p.m.

We are looking for a couple volunteers to take the Christmas poinsettias that are remaining after Christmas over to Tarpon Point Nursing and Rehabilitation Center to the residents who we know will enjoy receiving them. Please call the office 941-377-6180 if you are interested. Thank you!

CPR TRAINING Boxes may be turned in at any time but must be returned no later than November 11th. The boxes will be delivered the week of November 12th. Our project leader will once again be Nancy Winding and you may contact her at 355-7888. Blessings, Nancy There will be a CPR Training class Friday, November 9, 2018 from 10:00 a.m. until 12 noon. The fee is $40 and due the day of the class. Pre-registration is required. You may pre-register through the office Monday Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. Thanksgiving Worship Poinsettias will grace our sanctuary again this Christmas. The cost will be $9.00 per poinsettia and you may take your plant home after the 8:00 p.m. service on Christmas Eve. Order forms will be available November 18, 2018, watch for them in your bulletin. Our Thanksgiving Worship Service will be Tuesday November 20, 2018 at 7:00 p.m. There will be no Wednesday night worship or DLTs that week.

Just a note to express our deepest thanks for the wonderful notes and expressions of love from you, our church family. We truly feel appreciated. Blessings, Sunday November 4 th is All Saints Sunday.
