Warm-Up (Prior to class and first 10 minutes of the session.) Young children this age need a time to get acquainted with the new surroundings as they enter the classroom. Provide a variety of calm activities and toys such as blocks, play centers and simple puzzles. These activities create an environment that helps young children let go of Mom and Dad. If necessary, Mom and Dad may play with them for a few minutes and then leave. Large Group Opening (5-10 minutes) Purpose: You may use singing as a large group activity and to gather attention. The opening puppet presentation is a quick overview introducing the Bible Event and Take Home Point. Early childhood humor is also used. Bubba often says something silly about elephants. Judy says something silly about pink ponies. Let the children enjoy the joke but use it to call attention to the Bible Event. Singing: Use music of your choice. Puppet Presentation Supplies: children s picture Bible, pink pony in a paper bag Judy Learns About Rules Boys and girls, let s call out Judy. Kids call for Judy. Judy Judy Judy. Judy comes out with the pink pony in a paper bag. Hi, Judy. What do you have in your sack? It s my pink pony. She s been naughty, so I put her in the bag. Oh, my goodness. Well, can I take her out and ask her what she did? I don t think so, because she didn t follow the rules. Like what? She s not supposed to run in church. She ran in church. Oh, my. And you re not supposed to use crayons on the table. She colored on the table! Oh, my. Kingdom Quest Year 2 - Lesson 26-3

And you re not supposed to hit other children. She hit someone else! Oh, my. She didn t obey the rules. But did you obey the rules, Judy? Well, I was with my pony when she did those naughty things, so I got in trouble, too! I see. Do you know why we have rules? So I get in trouble? No. The rules help us love God and love others. We ll learn today that God gave ten rules or commandments and they are very special. How do the rules help? When we obey those rules, life becomes much better. Do we get in trouble like my naughty pony? We try not to get in trouble but, instead, love God and love others. See what I am holding? This is the Bible. It is God s word. Everything in the Bible is true. Now I am going to read about how God gave the Ten Commandments to Moses. Let s put on our listening ears. Read the Bible Event from a children s picture Bible or you may use the video option. Video Option: Today instead of reading the Bible, we are going to watch it on video. Video name: The Beginners Bible, The Story of Moses Start time after opening credits: 21 minutes, 17 seconds Spoken Cue: When the Israelites reached Mount Sinai End time: 23 minutes, 50 seconds (end of video) Spoken Cue: God helped Moses guide the Israelites home. Total length of clip: 2 minutes, 33 seconds Let s practice the Take Home Point. I ll say it first and you repeat after me. *Love God. Love others. Love God. Love others. Judy, will you help us sing our song of the week? Sure, I love to sing. Kingdom Quest Year 2 - Lesson 26-4

Song: to the tune of Row, Row, Row Your Boat Capitalized letters indicate emphasis on that syllable when the rhyme is sung. LOVE GOD and LOVE oth-ers. WE can FOL-low AND o-bey. Let s fold our hands and say a prayer. Repeat after me. Dear God, Dear God, You are with us. You are with us. We love you. We love you. Help us follow your rules. Help us follow your rules. Thank you, thank you, thank you. Thank you, thank you, thank you. In Jesus name. In Jesus name. Amen. Amen. Kingdom Quest Year 2 - Lesson 26-5

Small Group Application (30-40 minutes) Purpose: Young children learn best by repetition. Review the Bible Event and practice the Take Home Point as you rotate through the activities. The shepherd to child ratio for three-year-olds should be one to six or fewer. Divide into groups of six with one shepherd or have a slightly larger group with two shepherds. Groups rotate from activity to activity. Another option, especially for larger churches, is to provide a leader at each activity table with a shepherd leading a group of up to twelve. The ratio will be maintained at one to six. Safety and Security: Safety and security procedures are important for each church to carefully define and implement according to their unique needs. The security, safety, illness and accident procedures described in this curriculum are provided for example purposes only and may not be appropriate, applicable or adequate for every situation. Each church is responsible for determining whether any security, safety, illness and accident procedures contained in the curriculum are appropriate, applicable or adequate for its unique situation. The activities described in this curriculum require adult supervision and may not be suitable for each child and each situation. Each church is responsible for ensuring that adequate adult supervision is provided for all activities and for determining whether an activity is appropriate for each child and each situation. Kids Kount Publishing disclaims all liability for the implementation of any procedures or the performance of any activities described in this curriculum. Activity 1: Acting Out the Bible Event Supplies: Children s picture Bible Introduction Moses and the Ten Commandments This is the Bible. It is God s word. Let s act out what it says in the Bible. When you see me do the actions, you do them, too. God wants Moses to lead his people. God chose Moses to lead the Israelite people out of Egypt. Walk in place. When they came to the Red Sea, Moses held out his staff and the waters parted. Spread your arms out wide and show how the waters parted. Now let s walk through the waters on dry ground. They walked through the desert when the sun was hot. Let s wipe the moisture or sweat off our forehead and keep on walking. We re getting tired. The people came to a mountain and looked up to the top of it. They could see that there were clouds, thunder and lightening. God said he would talk to Moses. He wanted Moses to come up to the top of the mountain. The people know this was a very special place. Let s all kneel down. Kingdom Quest Year 2 - Lesson 26-6

God gives Moses the Ten Commandments. God told Moses to walk up the mountain by himself. Let s pretend to climb up the steep mountain. When God talked to Moses there, he told him that he would write ten rules for his people to follow. God wrote the rules, called commandments, in stone. Let s use our finger and pretend we are writing on the stone tablets. Now let s count how many rules God made. He made ten special rules or commandments for his people. Let s see how far we can count. Can you count to ten? One, two, three, four on up to ten. Moses comes down the mountain. After Moses talked to God, he came down the mountain carrying the heavy stone tablets with the Ten Commandments. Let s carry the heavy stone tablets down the mountain. We use God s rules today. When Jesus came and told us about God, he helped us understand God s rules. He told us that we are to love God and love others. That is how we obey all ten of God s rules. Let s say, Love God. Love God. Do these actions. Put your hand on your heart. Now point to heaven. Now say, Love others. Love others. Put your hands on your heart and then put your hands out wide. Love others. Jesus showed us how to love God and love others. Remember, he gave his life for all of us so that we, too, can love God and love others. Do it with the action. Pray, Sing and Review the Take Home Point Prayer: Let s fold our hands and say a prayer. Repeat after me. Dear God, Dear God, You are with us. You are with us. We love you. We love you. Help us follow your rules. Help us follow your rules. Thank you, thank you, thank you. Thank you, thank you, thank you. In Jesus name. In Jesus name. Amen. Amen. Kingdom Quest Year 2 - Lesson 26-7

Let s sing our song of the week. Song: to the tune of Row, Row, Row Your Boat Capitalized letters indicate emphasis on that syllable when the rhyme is sung. LOVE GOD and LOVE oth-ers. WE can FOL-low AND o-bey. Take Home Point: Let s practice the Take Home Point. I ll say it first and you repeat after me. *Love God. Love others. Love God. Love others. Activity 2: Snack Supplies: napkins cups and water oval crackers squirt cheese Be aware of any food allergies children may have. Today we are going to eat a snack that has the shape of the Ten Commandment tablets. Before we eat our snack, let s fold our hands and say a prayer. Repeat after me. Dear God, Dear God, You are with us. You are with us. We love you. We love you. Help us follow your rules. Help us follow your rules. Thank you, thank you, thank you. Thank you, thank you, thank you. In Jesus name. In Jesus name. Amen. Amen. Before children arrive, prepare one cracker to demonstrate. Draw the shape of the tablets on a cracker with the squirt cheese (a large m ). Pass out a napkin and cup of water to each child. God gave Moses special rules called the Ten Commandments. God wrote them in stone on tablets shaped like this. Hold up prepared cracker. Kingdom Quest Year 2 - Lesson 26-8

I am going to give you two crackers but do not eat them right away. I will squirt some cheese on them so your crackers will look like the Ten Commandments tablets, too. When your cracker is decorated, you may eat it. As the children eat, ask them if they can think of any rules at their house. You may need to prompt them with questions such as: Can you stay awake as long as you want to? Can you eat whatever you want? Can you run in the street? Remind them that rules are made to keep us safe. Let s practice the Take Home Point. I ll say it first and you repeat after me. *Love God. Love others. Love God. Love others. Let s sing our song of the week. Song: to the tune of Row, Row, Row Your Boat Capitalized letters indicate emphasis on that syllable when the rhyme is sung. LOVE GOD and LOVE oth-ers. WE can FOL-low AND o-bey. Activity 3: Craft Children take pride in making something themselves. Resist trying to do too much for children so that they can say, I did it myself. Supplies: copies of Appendix A on cardstock, one copy per six children sequins, stickers, pieces of colorful paper or ribbons, etc. glue sticks Before class, cut six bookmarks from the Appendix page. Each will say Love God at the top of it and Love Others at the bottom. Today we are learning how God gave the Ten Commandments to Moses. They are in the Bible. Today we are going to make a bookmark. You can give it to your mom or dad to put in their Bible or you can keep it for your own Bible. Decorate them any way you want. You can decorate both sides. Let s start gluing on all the decorations. Let s practice the Take Home Point. I ll say it first and you repeat after me. *Love God. Love others. Love God. Love others. Kingdom Quest Year 2 - Lesson 26-9

Let s sing our song of the week. Song: to the tune of Row, Row, Row Your Boat Capitalized letters indicate emphasis on that syllable when the rhyme is sung. LOVE GOD and LOVE oth-ers. WE can FOL-low AND o-bey. Let s pray now. Fold your hands and repeat after me: Dear God, Dear God, You are with us. You are with us. We love you. We love you. Help us follow your rules. Help us follow your rules. Thank you, thank you, thank you. Thank you, thank you, thank you. In Jesus name. In Jesus name. Amen. Amen. Activity 4: Games Choose one or both games to play.
