Words from Our Pastor Bob Mitchell Volume 6, Issue 9 September 2018 Important to Note: Congregational Meeting Luau Fight Night Meet Your Deacon One Service Sunday Ground Breaking Celebration War Ends!! Titanic Sunk! Twin Towers Fall! Certain headlines are in ridiculously bold print. They are splashed across every square inch that the front page of a newspaper can afford to give. These headlines don t announce your average, runof-the-mill daily news. Instead they proclaim what is monumental, epic and defining. Only once, or maybe twice in a 26 year ministry does such an event warrant a pastor using ridiculously bold print in the newsle er. But such an event is soon upon us. So I ll direct Cheryl to use the biggest print that is possible to announce: GROUNDBREAKING!!! This event on September 23rd should not be an occasion that warrants only a quaint punch-and-cookies response. Rather, we should see it for the monumental event that it is. The look of our campus will be significantly altered. The scope of ministry that is possible for us will be significantly enlarged. So may our prayers and an- cipa on of what the Lord is going to do at Lincoln rise to fit the occasion. May our expecta ons accompany the sacrifices that we are making to see this building become a reality. And may Jesus truly be exalted through it. During this era of the life of our church, I feel privileged to be, Your Pastor, Bob Jon Hathorn - Pastor of Church Ministries I recently read a quote by Tony Evans reminding me that we are a family - Church isn t something you go to. It s a family you belong to. The church is the body of Christ. Families don t have posi ons, but the members share roles and therefore the family belongs to each other and depends on each other. Please think about this. Lincoln Pres has some wonderful musicians, but I am not one of them. We also have been blessed with our amazing Awana leaders, youth leaders, LIFE group leaders, many behind the scenes people, elders and deacons. In fact, there are many roles that people fill at Lincoln and it is really too many to try and list. We belong to each other and we celebrate together and we even hurt together. I am thankful for the care and concern that our church has for one another. It doesn t take long to realize just how many people are involved in serving and we are thankful to each one. Communica on is an important part of being a family. Being on the same page is important. I once told a joke to a couple of friends who were obviously not doing a good job of communica ng and working together. I put a Con nued on page 2

Church isn t something you go to. It s a family you belong to. Pastor Jon (continued from page 1) piece of paper on the table and held it down with my index and middle finger. Then I asked them to put their fingers on the paper also. I then said, Now isn t it nice, we are all on the same page. Pre y foolish joke isn t it? Well, here at Lincoln we are trying to improve our communica on and being on the same page biblically, mentally, and emo onally is important to us. I have now been at Lincoln for a li le more than 7 months and here are three great compliments I would like to share. First, this is a church where we experience the incredible grace of God and I pray we keep sharing our stories. Second, this is a friendly church and I pray that we will con nue to be accep ng of those who need God s grace. And third, this is a generous church and I pray that we will con nually use our resources to reach the lost and expand the kingdom of God. Just a li le reminder. God loves you and so do I. Let s keep communica ng. One of my favorite things in life is hearing stories from people about how God s grace has impacted you as well as hearing about personal ministry dreams and desires of how God might use you. If you d like to have breakfast, coffee or lunch and share some stories of God s grace or dreams of ministry please let me know. I look forward to mee ng with you. Pastor Jon What will be taking place in that new facility? We are dreaming and trying to make those dreams into reality.
