Mother of Our Redeemer Catholic School First Holy Communion Ceremony May 5, 2018 Rev. Fr. Juan Pedro Hernandez
ENTRANCE HYMN: I Will Choose Christ GREETING PENITENTIAL RITE Lord, have mercy GLORIA OPENING PRAYER FIRST READING: ACTS OF THE APOSTLES 16:1-10 A reading from the Acts of the Apostles Paul reached also Derbe and Lystra where there was a disciple named Timothy, the son of a Jewish woman who was a believer, but his father was a Greek. The brothers in Lystra and Iconium spoke highly of him, and Paul wanted him to come along with him. On account of the Jews of that region, Paul had him circumcised, for they all knew that his father was a Greek. As they traveled from city to city, they handed on to the people for observance the decisions reached by the Apostles and presbyters in Jerusalem. Day after day the churches grew stronger in faith and increased in number. They traveled through the Phrygian and Galatian territory because they had been prevented by the Holy Spirit from preaching the message in the province of Asia. When they came to Mysia, they tried to go on into Bithynia, but the Spirit of Jesus did not allow them, so they crossed through Mysia and came down to Troas. During the night Paul had a vision. A Macedonian stood before him and implored him with these words, "Come over to Macedonia and help us." When he had seen the vision, we sought passage to Macedonia at once, concluding that God had called us to proclaim the Good News to them. The Word of the Lord All: Thanks be to God
RESPONSORIAL PSALM: Psalm; PS 100:1B-2,3,5 R: Let all the earth cry out to God with joy. GOSPEL ACCLAMATION R/. Alleluia, alleluia Celebrant: The Lord be with you. All: And also with you. A reading from the holy Gospel according to John Jn 15:18-21 All: Glory to you, Lord. Many of the disciples of Jesus who were listening said, "This saying is hard; who can accept it?" Since Jesus knew that his disciples were murmuring about this, he said to them, "Does this shock you? What if you were to see the Son of Man ascending to where he was before? It is the Spirit that gives life, while the flesh is of no avail. The words I have spoken to you are Spirit and life. But there are some of you who do not believe." Jesus knew from the beginning the ones who would not believe and the one who would betray him. And he said, "For this reason I have told you that no one can come to me unless it is granted him by my Father." As a result of this, many of his disciples returned to their former way of life and no longer walked with him. Jesus then said to the Twelve, "Do you also want to leave?" Simon Peter answered him, "Master, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life. We have come to believe and are convinced that you are the Holy One of God." The Gospel of the Lord.
