MONTHLY NEWSLETTER OF OAKLEY CHRISTIAN CHURCH NOVEMBER 2018 From The Whyte House. I want to start off this article by saying Thank You!! Thank you for the cards, gift cards, meals, the love offering and the overall outpouring of love that you have shown our family. We are blessed to serve God and this church. Thank you for your friendship and love it means so much to us. Last November I wrote an article about being thankful for the cross. While I am still very much thankful for the cross, I was thinking about all of the things that we are personally involved with and the potential of all of the other things everyone else could be involved with or that looms on the horizon that requires our involvement and it keeps us all running and exhausted. We become busy sick because we do way too much. I am not saying that we shouldn t be doing things fun and exciting and getting our kids involved but I think the things that we choose to do pale in comparison to what God wants us to do. I am reminded what Jesus says to the crowd and His disciples in Mark 8:34 Then he called the crowd to him along with his disciples and said: "If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. Jesus gives 2 specifics when it comes to following Him. First, we must deny ourselves the idea of denying ourselves doesn t mean that we deny things or become a martyr for the cause it means denying our selfcenteredness and selfish interests. It means keeping ourselves from being defined by the, what we do, rather than being defined by who God has created us to be. Continued on page 2. From The Whyte House Continued. Second, Jesus tells us to take up our cross. This literally means choosing God s will and way rather than our will and way. Jesus took God s will and way when He chose the cross for us. It means we may have a decision to make when it comes to choosing what we want verses what God desires. I am not, in any way, trying to take the fun out of life I just don t want us missing out on everything that God has in store for us as we put him first and our selfish interests second. I pray that as we move into the busiest time of the year that we won t become busy sick but we will find rest as we take up our Cross and Follow Him. Serving Him with You, Ja Sunday, November 18 at NOON All Church Thanksgiving Feast Sunday, November 18 NOON Following the worship service We invite you to join us for our Annual All Church Thanksgiving Feast.
