Bible Story Transcript THE EASTER STORY 4: THE RESURRECTION! Memory Verse He is not here; he has risen! Remember how he told you, while he was still with you in Galilee: The Son of Man must be delivered over to the hands of sinners, be crucified and on the third day be raised again. Story Characters Centurion 2 Soldier 3 Magdalene Small crowd Narrator As dawn approached, Pilate's soldiers were confident that nobody could get past the guarded tomb. (Music- Up and in to resurrection moment)(sfx - Outdoor ambience at night. Soldier walks.) Centurion, I have completed my rounds. No sign of grave robbers. Centurion It is almost dawn. No doubt the presence of a Roman guard has scared off any trouble-makers. Sir, do you feel something? The ground is shaking. (SFX - Rocks rolling, rumble) Centurion Have the squad gather at the tomb entrance. Hurry! (pause) Oh, no (Music- mysterious and awesome moment)(sfx - Morning ambience. Footsteps running up. Pounding on door. Wood door opens.), what is this all about. Have you been running?

(out of breath) Yes I've been running. Why? They've taken Him. Taken who? They've taken Jesus. I went to the tomb this morning with the others. They're right behind me. We went to finish the burial preparations. Please take a breath. (heavy breath) When we got there the stone was rolled away. So we stepped in. But it was empty. (walking up), What's doing here at this hour? says she went to the tomb, but Jesus was gone., the tomb was empty. Someone has taken the Lord. But who? There was a guard. What happened to them? I don't know. Maybe they moved Him. No more time for questions. I have to see this myself. (SFX - footsteps on pavement) Wait for me. (SFX - footsteps running)(musictransition)

Narrator The news of Jesus' resurrection spread quickly. (SFX - footsteps running in) Father, have you heard. They say He is alive. I told them not to tease. The others knew I loved Jesus. Is it true that He's alive? I knew you'd know. Slow down, little one. What's this all about? Sarah's parents know someone who just came from Jerusalem. They say that Jesus has been seen, and He's alive. (Shocked) Sarah's parents are very well respected. I haven't known them to spread rumors. But have you heard anything? No. Not like that. I hope it's true. Can we go to the feast early this year. That way we'll be able to find out. Maybe we can see Him! We were just in Jerusalem. You know we can't go again till the feast. But I can't wait till Pentecost. That's over a month from now. I'm sorry we just can't go till then. Can't you find out for me. You know more people in Jerusalem than Sarah's family. Can't you send a messenger? I'm sorry, but we'll just have to wait. I know you don't understand, but many of my friends in Jerusalem wouldn't like me asking questions about Jesus.

I know. I hate waiting. But somehow I know it's true. I hope you're right. I'm going to go and ask Hannah's maid. She knows everything. Maybe someone else in town has heard about this. Go ahead. Ask around. (SFX - girl runs off) (sigh) What faith. To think the whole town laughed when Jesus said my little one was just asleep. If He can raise her back to life, well, maybe the news is true after all. (Music- melody bold and out)(sfx - wind, outdoor ambience.) (small group walla of anticipation) (whispering) I wonder why the Lord wanted us all out on this mountain? (whispering) It's been forty days since he came back to life. Maybe now he will act and set up his Kingdom. (loudly) Lord, has the time come when you will restore Israel's kingdom? (Music- fade up and in under Jesus to end of scene) Jesus Don't worry about times and dates for things the Father alone knows about. What you should be looking for is the coming of the Holy Spirit. When He comes, you will tell everyone the truth about who I am in Jerusalem, (begin projecting voice as he rises) Judea, Samaria, and every corner of the world. (ends in a big delay) walla: reaction to Jesus rising into the sky, look!

He's rising into the clouds. Can you see Him? I've lost sight of Him. (SFX - big wind gust) (reverb) Why are you staring up at the sky? walla: An angel. (reverb) Jesus will come back. The very same one who has gone to heaven will someday return. (reverb) The same way you have seen Him go. (reverb) Jesus will come back. Together (reverb into huge delay) Keep watching. (SFX - big wind gust then outdoor ambience)(music- big swell and out) Bible Source: Holy Bible, New International Reader's Version, A Bible for Kids, Zondervan Publishing House, 1999. https://kidscorner.reframemedia.com/bible-stories/the-miracle-of-easter-resurrection Printed on January 14, 2019
