Bethesda News www.bethesdamc.org November 4, 2018 School Kit Night! We will be packing school kits tonight starting at 6:00 p.m. with a youth fundraiser meal. You may come as early as 5:00 p.m. and help string kits and tape pencils for packing. School kit assembly will begin at 7:00 p.m. Contact Lindy Siebert or Adeline Huebert if you have any questions. Deacon Nominees October 21, 2018, the congregation nominated Bethesda members to fill the term of E. James Friesen on the Board of Deacons which will expire February 2019. The following individuals have accepted the nomination for deacon. On November 18 the congregation will have vote to narrow the list to two individuals. The final vote will be on December 9. Please keep them in your prayers and the congregation as we prayerfully discern God s will: Bryan Bechtel, Mark Friesen, Arlin Hiebner and Kara Janzen. MCC Canner Service Opportunity! We will have a service opportunity to join with our fellow Nebraska congregations to can meat at the MCC Resource Center in Newton this weekend on November 8, 9, 10, 2018. There will also be comforters to tie and school kits to sew during down times. Please sign up in the Fellowship Hall. Continuing Next Week: November 11 The Gospel According to John Bethesda Bible Series with Pastor Seth Miller will continue Sunday, November 11 at 5:45 p.m. with the soup supper and the study from 6:30-7:30 p.m in the Fellowship Hall. This extensive study will help us as a congregation dive deeply into this life-changing gospel. Child care will be available. Meals will be provided by both the Board of Education and individuals who have volunteered from the congregation. Costs for the meal will be covered by a donation from the Board of Education and free-will offerings as needed.

The evening will include a combination of scripture readings, the Christmas story narrative, and music from the Chancel Choir and congregation accompanied by organ, brass and flute. Would you be interested in helping with the Christmas Eve service? The narrative will have both speaking and nonspeaking parts, so there is a place for anyone interested. On November 14, preschool through 6th graders will be assembling infant care kits. We are looking for the following items: gowns/sleepers (flannel or similar warm, soft materials); onesies; receiving blankets; heavy duty safety pins; mild soap; socks; and caps. Items can be left in the box outside the church office. Thank you for your generosity! Rachelle Schweitzer Fundraiser A fund has been set up at Cornerstone Bank and Henderson State Bank to assist with expenses related to purchasing and training a new service dog, along with ongoing medical expenses for Rachelle Schweitzer. Please keep Rachelle and Royce in your prayers as they grieve the loss of her service dog, Tux. The Henderson Ministerial Association is aware of a need for $1500 to help a family in the community purchase a vehicle. Ten Thousand Villages will be bringing many items to sell including thoughtful and unique gifts, Christmas decorations and ornaments. Every item bought is handmade and benefits artisans around the globe. In addition, Ten Thousand Villages is donating 15% of the profits back to our youth group fund. Did you miss Faith and Life Bookstore setting up during the meat canner this year? They are coming for the Christmas Market also and will be donating 10% of their profits! Buy books for yourself or for the readers on your Christmas list. In addition to these two vendors, we are looking for local artisans and bakers who are interested in selling items at the Market. We are also looking to borrow 3-4 Christmas trees and strings of white Christmas lights. Hesston College Bel Canto Singers The Bel Canto Singers of Hesston College will share choral music with Bethesda during the morning worship service on Sunday, November 18. Their music selections will complement the regular scriptures and sermon. Bel Canto Singers will be joined by Bethesda s Powerhouse choir for part of the service. Dr. Russell Adrian conducts and Kenneth Rodgers accompanies the choir. Bel Canto Singer s song selections are from a program entitled Grant Us Peace which was inspired by the college s International Peace Day celebration in September.

Foster Homes Needed Parenting a child is one of the most rewarding, and challenging activities of life but it is also one of the most important activities. Unfortunately, there are hundreds of kids in our own state that do not have families. Grace Children's Home will be providing State of Nebraska approved Foster Care licensing classes beginning at 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, November 27, 2018. Obtaining a license does not require a commitment to host children. There are lots of ways you can support foster care. There is no cost to attend this training. CORNERSTONE will meet this Wednesday, November 7 at 7 p.m. for a night of helping the elementary children learn the books of the Old Testament (Intergenerational Night) at 7 p.m. We will meet in the Upper Room to start the evening. Wreaths are $25. You may order from any high school youth or sign up at the Coffee Spot in the Fellowship Hall. Greenery pickup date is Sunday, November 25, in the parking lot following worship. Sign Up to Help with Christmas Market High school youth/parents can sign up in the Crossroads Coffee House starting today to help work at the Christmas Market. You sign up for shifts to work in the Ten Thousand Villages booth or to help bring donations for food. The youth/parents who volunteer will receive a percentage of profits from this event towards Convention next summer.
