CHURCH OF ST. THERESA, BRONX APRIL 21, 2013 FOURTH SUNDAY OF EASTER It seems to me that our present generation is an age in which so many people feel lonely and filled with great fears. In the midst of a revolutionary communications technology there appears to be more lonely people around now than at any other age. We are filling our nursing homes and senior citizen apartments with millions of lonely people we leave them with their T.V. s and their cats to fend for themselves; as if T.V. s and pets can fill the gaping void of the human heart. More people commit suicide now than at any other age; more people are mentally sick now as well. And think of the fears we have! We are living in fear of drunken drivers, street muggers and terrorists. We are living in fear that our children will end up junkies or alcoholics; we are afraid of recessions and economic depressions and a million other real or imagined fears. And yet, Our Lord is with us, waiting to lead us out of these forests of fear, these dungeons of darkness and these deserts of loneliness into the paths of joy and peace. Do you remember the woman in the crowd who touched the hem of the Lords garment and was instantly healed? Do you remember Zacchaeus who changed from being a tyrant to a generous philanthropist because Jesus entered his home for a visit? Do you remember Mary Magdalene who sat for a while by the Lord s feet and listened to His words: how she received the gift of peace and forgiveness after years of sin and selfishness? We need to re-read these gospel stories and think once again of the blessedness of these encounters of human beings like us with the Lord. But also take time out of your busy lifestyle to think of the blessedness that has been granted us when we have Jesus present with us, accessible to us, near us, all the time especially as we encounter Him in the Eucharist. At every Mass, in every tabernacle, on the altar, bread is broken again, and Jesus is made present once again. The question remains: do you recognize that it is Jesus? Or are we so preoccupied with our own concerns and problems, or worse, have become so indifferent to the miracle of the Eucharist that we do not even recognize Him among us? How often do we find an excuse to remain at home or busy ourselves on the ball field or shopping rather than meet the Lord at Mass? Can anyone touch our brokenness and heal, or touch our sinfulness and forgive, or touch our guilt and atone, or touch our fears and reassure, or touch our loneliness and console, or touch our despair and redeem? This is exactly what Jesus in the Eucharist can do for you!! Do you believe it? Is your faith providing the necessary vision to recognize Jesus in the Eucharist? Every Sunday or for that matter every day when we come to Mass can be that day for us to celebrate the great miracle and loving mystery of God become visible for us in the Eucharist. It can also be that moment for us to turn to Jesus with a deep faith and He, we can be sure, will wipe away our tears, bind our wounds, call each of us by name, and take our hands and heart and lead us to joy, peace and happiness. We are truly blessed because we are truly loved by God! Believe it and ponder this truth in your heart. You will see it for yourself. GOOD SHEPHERD SUNDAY THANK YOU Today is Good Shepherd Sunday. As we continue our Easter celebration we thank God for the gift of the many good shepherds he has given to lead our parish over the years. Today we offer thanks to God for Father Grippo who guides our parish with strength and love, always caring for the sheep God has placed in his care. We pray that God will continue to bless Father Grippo with wisdom and grace. EUCHARISTIC ADORATION Eucharistic Adoration takes place every Wednesday afternoon from 4:30 to 5:30PM and on First Friday from 7:30 to 10PM. Please consider a visit with Jesus before the Blessed Sacrament. ST.
