Fruitfulness Report October-November 2014 Our Christian faith calls us to offer both hospitality and protection to all children. As Christian church leaders, we are charged with engaging children and youth while making every effort to assure their safety. Safe Sanctuaries is more than implementing guidelines, policies and procedures. Safe Sanctuaries creates an environment with boundaries of safe space for children, youth and vulnerable adults, and the adult servants who work with them. In 1996, the General Conference of The United Methodist Church adopted a resolution aimed at reducing the risk of abuse in the church. During the 2014 West Ohio Annual Conference, members passed a rule requiring each local congregation to establish a Safe Sanctuaries policy and to update these annually. The West Ohio Annual Conference Safe Sanctuaries Task Force is committed to assisting every church and worshipping congregation in implementing a policy to establish procedural requirements for the safety and protection of children, youth and vulnerable adults. Resourcing Churches The West Ohio Conference Safe Sanctuaries web page, www.westohio.umc.org/conference/safe-sancturaies, has been completely renovated to resource local churches with customizable and fill-able forms including: West Ohio Conference Mandatory Standards for Safe Sanctuaries: Introduction Statement of Covenant Definitions Screening Supervision Reporting Response Plan Safe Sanctuaries Power Point Presentation with Trainer Script and Participant Handouts Safe Sanctuaries Self Evaluation Form for the Local Church Report of Suspected Incident of Abuse Steps to Report Abuse Flow Chart Implementation and Annual Review Form West Ohio Conference Crisis Communication Guidelines Minimum Required Insurance Levels Family Information/Registration Card Servant (Volunteer) Application Servant (Volunteer) Reference Form Servant (Volunteer) Training Log Incident/Injury/Illness Form Field Trip Permission Form Routine Trip Permission Form Photo and Media Release Form Links to Books, Resources, Articles, etc. Provided By General Board of Discipleship of the United Methodist Church
