Celebrating the Joy of the Resurrection MAY 2014 Christianity is not an especially sad or even penitential faith, despite the demeanor of many of its adherents. Joy is the great secret of Christianity. Asceticism, discipline, and penitence the discipline of Lent are useful tools but not the central character of the faith. Repentance simply requires that we turn our face toward eternity. The result is that we don't have to save the world - it's been saved already. When the Church talks about how "Christ has won the victory," it's serious. This should be part of every Christian's awareness. We just have to live in recognition of that fact. Despite our having to guard against evil and struggle for justice, an adjustment needs to be made an adjustment dramatized by the story of Christ and we are there. It is the Easter season, a week of weeks and the very heart of our Sunday gathering throughout the year. Let us rejoice and be glad, Christ is Risen...Alleluia! Volume 5 Page 2 FINANCE NEWS For those of you who have inquired, we have put together the figures for the expenses for utilities, snow removal and maintenance. In 2013 from January 1, to April 21 the total was $15,835.48 In 2014 from January 1, to April 21 the total was $25,165.33 A difference of $9,329.85 Thank you for your continued support. Envelopes to help close this deficit are available in the narthex. Some of you may have been wondering why do we have an attendance sheet now? We have a couple of reasons. We have the capability now to record attendance in our Church Management Solutions Program (CMS) now, something we didn t have before. It also helps us to be more diligent when someone is out for an over extended amount of time. Whether its due to illness or for other unknown reasons. It is also quicker to sign just your name than to fill out the attendance slip, which was only being utilized by a very small handful of people. So I hope this helps to answer some of your questions. We really appreciate your cooperation. Roxanne Rossano Church Secretary DID YOU KNOW?
