Assist in promoting and supporting the members of Snows Women s Auxiliary and the Knights of Columbus, Council Number 4997. SWA May, 2015 Newsletter Vice President s Article: Greetings and a very glorious Easter Season to all! Due to an email glitch while staying in Elko, Jean Sokol isn t able to get her President s message to our Newsletter Editor. We didn t want to hold up the printing presses, so I will do my best to give you the message that Jean would want to send out. As we are getting further into spring, our natural instincts are to open the windows, let the fresh air in and clean out closets and the garage. Of course, that bodes well for our Rummage Sale. Many items from people s spring-cleaning will make their way to us. We will need many bodies to handle all the items that will be turned in. We hope that you will take a look at the schedule that was sent by email and find some time to come down and help out. We make a lot of money from this rummage sale and these proceeds go to worthwhile causes. We will need signups for people to work the week prior to the rummage sale itself. The pre-sale dates are June 8-12 and the hours will be from 8-4 each day. The sale itself takes place Saturday June 13 th. We need people there by 7:00 AM to help get stuff out to the parking lot. On Sunday June 14 th, the sale goes from 8-12, but we will need people to stay a little longer to pack all the stuff we didn t sell. It all gets boxed up and goes on a truck to St. Vincent s. It is a lot of time and work to put on this rummage sale but I guarantee you that it also a lot of fun. Whether you sign up by email or sign up at the next meeting, we need as many as possible to help out. Congratulations to our past President, Leslie Patti for winning volunteer of the year for our parish. There is more about Leslie s award in this Newsletter. Everybody should try and make the meeting on Tuesday May 5 th. Our newly formed Program Committee has invited Felvia Belaustegui to come and speak on the history of Italian women in Reno at the beginning of the 1900 s. Felvia is very involved with the Historical Society and is especially knowledgeable about the Italian settlers in our area, having written her master s thesis on the Italian immigration to the historic Powning s Addition neighborhood just west of downtown Reno. We have many activities to look forward to after the rummage sale. We will be handing out the Making a Difference Awards at an upcoming meeting. We plan to have another Welcome Committee Meet and Greet in July, and the Fashion Show is scheduled for October. So come one and come all to help the group be all it can be. Best Regards, Cindy McLaughlin, SWA Vice President

June 8 >11 Pre-sale drop-off of Rummage Sale items (see last page of this Newsletter for details) The month of May is dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary. With its exuberant profusion of spring blooms, May was adopted by the Church in the 18th century as a celebration of the flowering of Mary's maidenly spirituality. The first 24 days of May fall within the liturgical season of Easter, which is represented by the liturgical color white the color of light, a symbol of joy, purity and innocence (absolute or restored). The remainder of May (beginning the Monday after Pentecost) is in Ordinary Time, which is represented by the liturgical color green. This symbol of hope is the color of the sprouting seed and arouses in the faithful the hope of reaping the eternal harvest of heaven, especially the hope of a glorious resurrection. You can never love her more than Jesus did. --Saint Maximilian Kolbe If you ever feel distressed during your day, call upon our Lady, just say this simple prayer: 'Mary, Mother of Jesus, please be a mother to me now.' I must admit, this prayer has never failed me. - Blessed Mother Teresa "Only after the Last Judgment will Mary get any rest; from now until then, she is much too busy with her children." --St. John Vianney Barbara Reyes 828-9005 bar_travel@hotmail.com

Welcome to New Parishioners On Tuesday night, April 21st, the newly created SWA Welcome Committee, along with Fr. Tony, Fr. Mike and Susann Boley (representing the Church Staff), held its first Welcome gathering for new parishioners, providing them with an opportunity to get to know the parish. Hearty appetizers were served while Fr. Tony gave a presentation that included an overview of what Our Lady of the Snows parish has to offer. Tasty treats! From left: Cathy Johnson, Fr. Mike and Committee members Nelda McGee, Shari Ford & Sharon Cortez waiting to greet the new parishioners After Fr. Tony spoke, he asked the new parishioners to introduce themselves and provide a little history about themselves. After the new parishioners spoke, Fr. Mike, Susann Boley and each person from the Welcome Committee talked briefly about themselves and their role in the parish. Committee members agreed it was wonderful to hear what brought each person to Our Lady of Snows Parish! Even though it was a small group of new parishioners who attended, it was decided that who was meant to come, came that night. All who attended left the gathering very upbeat and eager to volunteer for future parish activities. From left: Susann Boley; Jean Sokol From left: Fr.
