V Sunday of Lent March 18, 2018 ST. PIUS X PARISH 13670 E. 13th Place, Aurora, CO, 80011 Office: 303-364-7435 Fax: 303-340-0122 Office Hours: Monday - Friday 8:30-5:00 pm STPIUSXPARISH.ORG & STPIUSXSCHOOL.NET School: 303-364-6515 REKINDLE THE FLAME OF CHARITY I urge the members of the Church to take up the Lenten journey with enthusiasm, sustained by almsgiving, fasting and prayer. If, at times, the flame of charity seems to die in our own hearts, know that this is never the case in the heart of God! He constantly gives us a chance to begin loving anew ( ) By devoting more time to prayer, we enable our hearts to root out our secret lies and forms of self-deception, and then to find the consolation God offers. He is our Father and he wants us to live life well. Almsgiving sets us free from greed and helps us to regard our neighbour as a brother or sister. What I possess is never mine alone. How I would like almsgiving to become a genuine style of life for each of us! How I would like us, as Christians, to follow the example of the Apostles and see in the sharing of our possessions a tangible witness of the communion that is ours in the Church! For this reason, I echo Saint Paul s exhortation to the Corinthians to take up a collection for the community of Jerusalem as something from which they themselves would benefit (cf. 2 Cor 8:10). This is all the more fitting during the Lenten season, when many groups take up collections to assist Churches and peoples in need. Yet I would also hope that, even in our daily encounters with those who beg for our assistance, we would see such requests as coming from God himself. When we give alms, we share in God s providential care for each of his children. If through me God helps someone today, will he not tomorrow provide for my own needs? For no one is more generous than God. Fasting weakens our tendency to violence; it disarms us and becomes an important opportunity for growth. On the one hand, it allows us to experience what the destitute and the starving have to endure. On the other hand, it expresses our own spiritual hunger and thirst for life in God. Fasting wakes us up. It makes us more attentive to God and our neighbour. It revives our desire to obey God, who alone is capable of satisfying our hunger. ST. PIUS X SCHOOL NEWS We had a wonderful production of Seussical, Jr. as our spring musical last weekend! Our students and faculty worked so hard to put this together. We are so happy that we are able to continue to offer arts education to our students! Thank you to Ms. Beeves, Ms. Ergenbright, and Mr. Buchholz for the great work! We still have openings in our pre-kindergarten (four year olds) program for next school year. Preschool and pre-kindergarten are valuable experiences for children to build early social skills, learn how to interact in a structured group setting, begin crucial academic formation, and to have fun with friends! We have an excellent program, and we would be happy to give you a tour! Our tuition is often less than the cost of daycare. Give us a call to schedule a tour at (303) 364-6515. Eileen Michalczyk, Principal

Are you a High School graduate or a Young Adult (less than 40 years of age)? Are you looking for a Catholic Community here at St. Pius X and throughout the Archdiocese of Denver where you can grow spiritually and socially? We are looking for you!! We meet every third Saturday night at 8:00 PM in the Family Life Center to grow spiritually with a study. We meet throughout the month for social occasions both within our Parish and the Archdiocese at large. Some examples of our recent social gatherings: Parade of Lights, Vigil Praise, Movies both in home and at Theaters, Bowling, Potluck. ST. VINCENT DE PAUL SOCIETY Helps the poor in our community meet their everyday needs by assisting them with food, gas, water, and electric bill just to name a few. Our need is great, but our funds are limited. Please pick up a contribution envelope in the Narthex and include it with your next offertory. If anyone has material possessions and sees a brother or sister in need but has no pity on them, how can the love of God be in that person? Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth. 1 John 3:17 Please consider donating to the St. Vincent De Paul Society with your next offertory. For more information please contact Alex Martinez by email alex@stpiusxparish.org or Facebook:www.facebook.com/SPXYA
