Dear Sisters and Brothers: VOLUME EIGHT ISSUE ONE JANUARY 2019 What a marvelous Advent and Christmas we had together at Trinity Church! I am so grateful for ALL of you who worked so hard to make this year's seasonal observances so special! As I say quite o en, "None of the stuff around church "St. Nicholas" visits Family Fellowship on December 7 happens by magic parish things happen because parishioners make them happen." We are blessed to have so many parishioners who are willing to give their me, energy and talent to make this parish such a vibrant place. comments to me as they were leaving. Here is a sampling: On Christmas Eve, I was par cularly aware of how the efforts of so many contribute to visitors' experience of our worship services. While our 10:00 p.m. liturgy no longer draws the standing room only crowds like "back in the day," the congrega on at that liturgy, has, for the past few years, been comprised of a large number of visitors. This year visitors accounted for at least 35% of the total a endance. And for whatever reason, this year, a fair number of those visitors offered One visitor thanked me for the welcoming, elegant simplicity of the liturgy. Another visitor thanked us for con nuing to do a later liturgy even though he knew it was a sacrifice of me and energy on the part of all those involved. Another visitor said they felt more at peace in the liturgy than they had felt in months. Another visitor said they had just moved into the neighborhood, and had been thinking it was me to get reconnected with a church. It is some mes easy to become burdened by all of the ways we need to improve as a parish, and to be sure, we aren't perfect, but some mes it's nice to hear a compliment or two. And when I heard so many on Christmas Eve, I knew I needed to share them with you all, because the fact is, every one of you are a part of the story of Trinity Church. Thank you for your con nued faithfulness to the mission and ministry of this place. We are making a difference one moment at a me. Trin-i-Tree and Fleece Blankets A huge thank you to the people of Trinity Church. I am always amazed at your generosity to strangers. The men at the United Community Center had a fantas c Christmas. They each received a gi box of toiletries, socks, hats, scarves, gloves and some candy. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you! Thank you for your dona ons to Trin-i-Tree. Addi onally, we are thankful for the gi s of items for the Godly Playroom at St Augus ne Chris an School. Your generosity included cash dona ons totaling $373.00 to purchase addi onal gi s of the heart for those two programs. ~Jane Johnson and Corliss Rice Thank you to all who purchased polar fleece fabric, and cut and ed the blankets. We delivered 110 blankets to the Cath Lab at Children's Hospital. The children joyfully chose the one they wanted. We will be con nuing this outreach during 2019. We use 1 1/2 yards of polar fleece to make the blankets. We e two pieces together. Dona ons of polar fleece are always needed. Thank you from the children and staff at Children's Hospital. ~Jane Johnson Here are some updates for You 1. SCRIP: SCRIP is a gi card program which raised $3,000 for the Gathering, Wauwatosa Food Pantry and the Rector's Discre onary Fund in 2018. This only happened because you are faithful about ordering cards every first Sunday of the month. Thank you. How you can help? Consider ordering one or two cards each month Maybe for groceries, gas or something else you regularly use. There are always forms on the pillar outside of the library and your order can be placed in the envelope any me. The orders are processed on the Monday a er the first Sunday of the month. 2. Fleece blankets: In early 2018 we began sharing blankets with Children's Hospital Cath Lab. A er a child has the procedure, he or she chooses a blanket from the closet. We have a group of people who buy material, cut and e the blankets. We usually schedule one morning a month to e at church. 130 blankets have been shared with Children's Hospital. In November Kathy's House was added to the recipient list. Kathy's House serves adults who are receiving ongoing care, mostly at Froedtert. Jefferson School became our partner on Community Day. The fourth grade ed 12 blankets and we bought the fleece with some outreach funds. Trinity also ed 25 more for them. How you can help? Purchase either 1 1/2 yards or 2 yard lengths of fleece. It takes two lengths to make one blanket. Help e blankets on the monthly scheduled date at Trinity Church. 3. Fellowship me: Every Sunday there are snacks and beverages served during fellowship me. Trinity folks do love their snacks. Snacks can be homemade or purchased. Some favorites are cheese, sausage and crackers, fruit, coffee cake...you get the idea. How you can help? Bring a snack to share or freeze for another day. Buy cups, plates or napkins (please no Styrofoam). If you are able to help, just leave your dona on in the kitchen on the counter (unless it needs refrigera on). Our budget for coffee and supplies is small, so any help is appreciated. Trinity parishioners are so generous and helpful and that is just one of the reasons it is such a blessing to belong to this parish. If you have any sugges ons or ques ons about these ministries, please speak with Jill Paradowski or email her at jill.paradowski@gmail.com. Many blessings to you. 7
