FIRST SUNDAY OF EPIPHANY JANUARY 13, 2019 Procession into the Church/Praise and Worship Ministry of the Word of God The Acclamation (Stand) Surely the Lord is coming soon, Amen. Come Lord Jesus! The Collect for Purity & Almighty God, to you all hearts are open, all desires known, and from you no secrets are hid: Cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by the inspiration of your Holy Spirit, that we may perfectly love you, and worthily magnify your holy Name; through Christ our Lord. Amen. The Summary of the Law Hear what our Lord Jesus Christ says: You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. On these two commandments depend all the Law and the Prophets. Matthew 22:37-40 Kyrie Lord, have mercy upon us. Christ, have mercy upon us. Lord, have mercy upon us. 2

The Collect of the Day The Lord be with you. And with your spirit. Let us pray. Eternal Father, at the baptism of Jesus you revealed him to be your Son, and your Holy Spirit descended upon him like a dove: Grant that we, who are born again by water and the Spirit, may be faithful as your adopted children; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen. The Lessons Old Testament (Sit) Isaiah 42:1-9 Reader A reading from Isaiah. 1 Behold my servant, whom I uphold, my chosen, in whom my soul delights; I have put my Spirit upon him; he will bring forth justice to the nations. 2 He will not cry aloud or lift up his voice, or make it heard in the street; 3 a bruised reed he will not break, and a faintly burning wick he will not quench; he will faithfully bring forth justice. 4 He will not grow faint or be discouraged till he has established justice in the earth; and the coastlands wait for his law. 5 Thus says God, the LORD, who created the heavens and stretched them out, who spread out the earth and what comes from it, who gives breath to the people on it and spirit to those who walk in it: 6 I am the LORD; I have called you in righteousness; I will take you by the hand and keep you; I will give you as a covenant for the people, a light for the nations, 7 to open the eyes that are blind, to bring out the prisoners from the dungeon, from the prison those who sit in darkness. 8 I am the LORD; that is my name; my glory I give to no other, nor my praise to carved idols. 9 Behold, the former things have come to pass, and new things I now declare; before they spring forth I tell you of them. Reader The Word of the Lord. Thanks be to God. (Silence for meditation on the scripture.) 3

Psalm 89:1-29 (Stand) 1 I will sing of the steadfast love of the LORD, forever; with my mouth I will make known your faithfulness to all generations. 2 For I said, Steadfast love will be built up forever; in the heavens you will establish your faithfulness. 3 You have said, I have made a covenant with my chosen one; I have sworn to David my servant: 4 I will establish your offspring forever, and build your throne for all generations. Selah 5 Let the heavens praise your wonders, O LORD, your faithfulness in the assembly of the holy ones! 6 For who in the skies can be compared to the LORD? Who among the heavenly beings is like the LORD, 7 a God greatly to be feared in the council of the holy ones, and awesome above all who are around him? 8 O LORD God of hosts, who is mighty as you are, O LORD, with your faithfulness all around you? 9 You rule the raging of the sea; when its waves rise, you still them. 10 You crushed Rahab like a carcass; you scattered your enemies with your mighty arm. 11 The heavens are yours; the earth also is yours; the world and all that is in it, you have founded them. 12 The north and the south, you have created them; Tabor and Hermon joyously praise your name. 13 You have a mighty arm; strong is your hand, high your right hand. 14 Righteousness and justice are the foundation of your throne; steadfast love and faithfulness go before you. 15 Blessed are the people who know the festal shout, who walk, O LORD, in the light of your face, 16 who exult in your name all the day and in your righteousness are exalted. 4

17 For you are the glory of their strength; by your favor our horn is exalted. 18 For our shield belongs to the LORD, our king to the Holy One of Israel. 19 Of old you spoke in a vision to your godly one, and said: I have granted help to one who is mighty; I have exalted one chosen from the people. 20 I have found David, my servant; with my holy oil I have anointed him, 21 so that my hand shall be established with him; my arm also shall strengthen him. 22 The enemy shall not outwit him; the wicked shall not humble him. 23 I will crush his foes before him and strike down those who hate him. 24 My faithfulness and my steadfast love shall be with him, and in my name shall his horn be exalted. 25 I will set his hand on the sea and his right hand on the rivers. 26 He shall cry to me, You are my Father, my God, and the Rock of my salvation. 27 And I will make him the firstborn, the highest of the kings of the earth. 28 My steadfast love I will keep for him forever, and my covenant will stand firm for him. 29 I will establish his offspring forever and his throne as the days of the heavens. Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit; as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be forever. (Silence for meditation on the scripture.) New Testament (Sit) Acts 10:34-38 Reader A Reading from Acts. 34 So Peter opened his mouth and said: Truly I understand that God shows no partiality, 35 but in every nation anyone who fears him and 5

does what is right is acceptable to him. 36 As for the word that he sent to Israel, preaching good news of peace through Jesus Christ (he is Lord of all), 37 you yourselves know what happened throughout all Judea, beginning from Galilee after the baptism that John proclaimed: 38 how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power. He went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with him. Reader The Word of the Lord. Thanks be to God. (Silence for meditation on the scripture.) Gospel Hymn (Stand) Holy Gospel (Stand) Luke 3:15-22 Deacon The Holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to St. Luke. Glory to you, Lord Christ. 15 As the people were in expectation, and all were questioning in their hearts concerning John, whether he might be the Christ, 16 John answered them all, saying, I baptize you with water, but he who is mightier than I is coming, the strap of whose sandals I am not worthy to untie. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire. 17 His winnowing fork is in his hand, to clear his threshing floor and to gather the wheat into his barn, but the chaff he will burn with unquenchable fire. 18 So with many other exhortations he preached good news to the people. 19 But Herod the tetrarch, who had been reproved by him for Herodias, his brother's wife, and for all the evil things that Herod had done, 20 added this to them all, that he locked up John in prison. 21 Now when all the people were baptized, and when Jesus also had been baptized and was praying, the heavens were opened, 22 and the Holy Spirit descended on him in bodily form, like a dove; and a voice came from heaven, You are my beloved Son; with you I am well pleased. Deacon The Gospel of the Lord. Praise to you, Lord Christ. (Children, 4 years old through 6 th grade, please come to the Altar for a Children s Church blessing.) 6

Gospel Hymn The Sermon (Stand) (Sit) Nicene Creed (Stand) Let us confess our faith in the words of the Nicene Creed: & We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, visible and invisible. We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only-begotten Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father; through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven, was incarnate from the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary, and was made man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end. We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is worshiped and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets. We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen. Prayers of the Let us pray for the Church and for the world, saying, hear our prayer. 7

The Confession and Absolution of Sin Let us humbly confess our sins to Almighty God. Silence; people sit or kneel & Most merciful God, we confess that we have sinned against you in thought, word and deed, by what we have done, and by what we have left undone. We have not loved you with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. We are truly sorry and we humbly repent. For the sake of your Son Jesus 9

Christ, have mercy on us and forgive us; that we may delight in your will, and walk in your ways, to the glory of your Name. Amen. Almighty God, our heavenly Father, who in his great mercy has promised forgiveness of sins to all those who sincerely repent and with true faith turn to him, have mercy upon you, pardon and deliver you from all your sins, confirm and strengthen you in all goodness, and bring you to everlasting life; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. The Comfortable Words If anyone sins, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous. He is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the sins of the whole world. 1 John 2:1-2 If you are a member of our Acolytes, Altar Guild, Lay Servers/Chalice Bearers and/or Worship Teams -Music and Multi-media, please stand where you are for a blessing. Prayer Request: If you wish, you may complete the Thanksgivings and Prayers form inserted in this bulletin for inclusion in our Corporate Prayers at the Offertory and our Intercessory Prayer time during the week. The Offertory (Sit) For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sake he became poor, so that you by his poverty might become rich. 2 Corinthians 8:9 We encourage you to use offering envelopes for tax purposes. If you do not currently have offering envelopes or have forgotten to bring same, please ask an usher for one. Call 972-772-5525 if you would like a set of numbered envelopes. Offertory Anthem (Sit) Ensemble (Food offerings may be brought to the front of the Church.) Doxology (Stand) The Sursum Corda (Stand) ACNA Renewed Ancient Text The Lord be with you. And with your spirit. Lift up your hearts. We lift them up to the Lord. Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. It is right to give him thanks and praise. It is right, our duty and our joy, always and everywhere to give thanks to you, Father Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth. Through Jesus Christ our Lord, who took on our mortal flesh to reveal his glory; that he might bring us out of darkness and into his own glorious light. 11

Therefore we praise you, joining our voices with Angels and Archangels and with all the company of heaven, who forever sing this hymn to proclaim the glory of your Name: The Sanctus and The Prayer of Consecration (Kneel) Holy and gracious Father: In your infinite love you made us for yourself; and when we had sinned against you and become subject to evil and death, you, in your mercy, sent your only Son into the world for our salvation. By the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary he became flesh and dwelt among us. In obedience to your will, he stretched out his arms upon the cross and offered himself once for all, that by his suffering and death we might be saved. By his resurrection he broke the bonds of death, trampling Hell and Satan under his feet. As our great high priest, he ascended to your right hand in glory, that we might come with confidence before the throne of grace. On the night that he was betrayed, our Lord Jesus Christ took bread; and when he had given thanks, he broke it, and gave it to his disciples, saying, Take, eat; this is my Body which is given for you: Do this in remembrance of me. Likewise, after supper, Jesus took the cup, and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them, saying, Drink this, all of you; for this is my Blood of the New Covenant, which is shed for you, and for many, for the forgiveness of sins: Whenever you drink it, do this in remembrance of me. Therefore we proclaim the mystery of faith: Christ has died. Christ is risen. Christ will come again. Alleluia! We celebrate the memorial of our redemption, O Father, in this sacrifice of praise and thanksgiving, and we offer you these gifts. Sanctify them 12

by your Word and Holy Spirit to be for your people the Body and Blood of your Son Jesus Christ. Sanctify us also, that we may worthily receive this holy sacrament, and be made one body with him, so that he may dwell in us and we in him. And bring us with all your saints into the fullness of your heavenly kingdom, where we shall see our Lord face to face. All this we ask through your Son Jesus Christ: By him, and with him, and in him, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, all honor and glory is yours, Almighty Father, now and forever. Amen. And now, as our Savior Christ has taught us, we are bold to sing: The Lord s Prayer The Fraction Alleluia. Christ our Passover is sacrificed for us Therefore let us keep the feast. Alleluia. The gifts of God for the people of God. Take them in remembrance that Christ died for you and feed on him in your hearts by faith, with thanksgiving. Fraction Anthem All Baptized Christians are invited to communion. Please extend both hands to receive the bread and assist the server by guiding the chalice to your lips. If you do not desire the cup, leave the bread in your hand. The server will dip it in the wine and return it to you. PROPERS FOR SUNDAY, JANUARY 20, 2019 OT Isaiah 62:1-5 Psalm 96 NT I Corinthians 12:1-11 Gospel John 2:1-11 SCHEDULE OF SERVICES AND EVENTS Week of January 13, 2019 TODAY 9:30 a.m.... Confirmands Dinner with Bishop Please call the Church office for more information regarding these meetings. *Nursery/Preschool Provided Bishop s Visit This is a final reminder that Bishop Atwood will be with us next week! It is always a special time when the bishop visits. We look forward to his dinner with confirmands and spouses at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 19 th, his teaching of Adult Education at 9:30 a.m. on Sunday, his preaching and celebration of the Eucharist, and most importantly his confirmation of those baptized adults who are ready and duly prepared to make a mature public affirmation of their faith and commitment to the responsibilities of their Baptism and to receive the bishop s laying on of hands. This glorious service will be followed by a reception for the bishop and confirmands in the parish hall. Please bring a savory or sweet finger food to share. OSL Meeting and Special Soaking Prayer The Order of St. Luke will be having their regular brunch/meeting on Saturday, January 19, 10:00 am. We also believe we need a special time of prayer for all those who are being afflicted with a variety of illnesses right now, as well as those who are a little older and afflicted with joint pain. After the OSL meeting ends at 11:30, we will be having soaking prayer for all 15

who are interested and desire this form of intercession. All sit in a circle, or around the tables, in silence. You do not have to speak your request out loud; the prayer ministers move behind you and listen to the Holy Spirit as He directs their prayer. You are invited to participate whether you are a member of OSL or just someone needing prayers. If you like, you may join us for the brunch and stay during the meeting, or just show up in the parish hall about 11:20 and take a seat. Normally, each petitioner is prayed for 3 or 4 times during soaking prayer. This is a powerful way to receive God s blessing. OSL Healing Conference Have you heard??? The Order of St. Luke is hosting a Healing Conference February 22 and 23, 2019, here at Transformation Anglican Church. It will be led by our friends, The Rev. Dr. Jack Sheffield and his lovely wife, Anna Marie. Registration for this conference is available on our website, or you may find forms in the narthex. We look forward to a great group participating from our TAC family. OSL is busy making plans and getting things in order, but we could use your help in this fantastic opportunity. We need your prayers; not only for the success of the conference, but for the health and safety of Jack and Anna Marie; that they would be protected by the Blood of Jesus from any assault of the enemy. Both of them have been ill with the same kind of allergy, sinus problems and bronchitis that several of our members are experiencing and they covet your prayers for that. They also need travel mercies as they will be driving in from San Antonia. Because the conference is in February, we also ask your prayers for the weather. We can also use your assistance in the set up and take down of tables and chairs, as well as the prep, serving, and clean-up of snack foods. Please pray about how the Lord would have you assist. You do not need to be a member of OSL; this conference will benefit all in the church. Perhaps you feel led to furnish bottled water or soda for this event. Just let Sharon Parker know what you think you can do to help out. See her at church or email her at shparker@swbell.net. Thank You! 16
