Sunday worship service is at 10 a.m. with a nursery for babies and toddlers, and Sunday School classes for 3 year-olds through 5th grade. The youth program is Sunday evenings from 6-8:30 p.m. We also offer Messy Church, a family worship service held monthly on Saturdays at 4:30 p.m. First UMC takes the safety of the children and youth very seriously. EVENTS THROUGHOUT THE YEAR Children s Sabbath - (Spring 2019) is a day when the children of First UMC lead the rest of the church family in worship. Palm Sunday and Easter Egg Hunt - (April 14, 2019) Every Palm Sunday after worship First UMC holds a church-wide Easter egg hunt and family brunch with the Easter Bunny and kids activities. You won t want to miss this favorite family event! Children s After School Theater - Children s After School Theater (CAST), is a community program of First UMC for children in 1st through 12th grade. It fosters positive, imagination-inspired actions while building self-esteem through the arts. It explores writing, developing and producing plays and builds trust and teamwork. Vacation Bible School - (August 5-9, 2019) VBS takes place each summer for one week. It is a week filled with Bible stories, educational activities, fun and fellowship for children through 5th grade. Opportunities for youth and adult volunteers are also available. First UMC Preschool - Our full-day Preschool provides an enrichment program with low teacher/child ratios. First Children s Ministry at First UMC Welcome to First UMC! We believe that children s faith is vital to their formation and to the life of the church family. Come explore the many opportunities for your child s spiritual formation, including Sunday School, Children s Church, Faith in Action, Messy Church, Children s After School Theater (CAST) and more! Messy Church is a great opportunity for families to be together in worship without the worry of being too silly or messy because, let s face it, life can be messy! At Messy Church, we grow in our relationship with God and with one another through crafts, activities, music, and stories of God s love. Then, together we enjoy a shared meal. Children and adults of all ages are welcome so invite the grandparents, your neighbors and school friends to this new church community. Be ready to get messy! Family Sundays Messy Church meets on the 2nd Saturday of the month, 4:30-6 p.m. Chapel/Simkins Hall Upcoming dates: January 12 (off-site Meet-up) / February 9 / March 9 / April 14 / May 11 / June 8 www.santamonicaumc.org/messychurch Faith in Action Children remain with their families for congregational worship. Family Sundays usually occur around major holidays, such as Easter, Christmas, and Thanksgiving. Children s Church (7-12 yrs) & Cherub Voices (2-6 yrs) On every third Sunday of the month, the children of First UMC gather to learn about God and God s loving activity in the world through music, fun and laughter. They practice in preparation for special Sunday s such as Children s Sabbath, Christmas Eve, Palm Sunday and more! Faith is more than a belief, it is an action. Once a month the youth and children of First UMC put their Faith in Action, by working together during Sunday School to perform a gracious act of service. The project rotates between service for the church family, the local community, and our global community, as they experience what it means to be the hands and feet of Christ serving in the world.
