A MILE WIDE AND AN INCH DEEP 1

HASIDIC MOVEMENT IS FOUNDED Judaism was in disarray No formal training needed to be a Rabbi Israel Ben Eliezer (Baal Shem Tov) A Jewish mystic Goal was to restore purity to Judaism Caused a huge split among Jews 2

ERA OF THE ENLIGHTENMENT 19 th century, ¾ million Jews lived in Poland Jews moved towards a secular culture Enlightenment Era began early in the 18 th century Did not believe in the spiritual or supernatural There is no God or gods Evolved into modern Secular Humanism Mankind s hopes rest on science, technology, power or our minds to define morality 3

VOLTAIRE: VIRULENT ANTI-SEMITE Voltaire despised Jews and Christians alike Wanted to see Greek culture brought back to life Jews seen as evil, freak of nature His views formed the majority European views especially of Jews Strangely, this seemed to advance the acceptance of Jews as they embraced the Enlightenment philosophies of secular humanism 4

JEWS ARRIVE THROUGHOUT THE AMERICAS 5

JEWS IN RUSSIA By 1850, almost 2.5 million Jews in Russia In 50 years, number would double to 5 million Jews experienced alienation and persecutions Russia was paranoid of outsiders, and remains so to this day Czars saw Jews as a problem Relocated Jews to the Baltic Sea and restricted their movement 1812 Napoleon attacks Russia, Jews hoped for liberation Burned Moscow to the ground, and lost 80% of their French Troops 6

KARL MARX LEADS RUSSIA INTO NEW JEWISH POGROMS Russia sought revenge on the Jews Jewish boys from 12 25 years old drafted into military for a 25 year term! Kosher meat and Candle Tax were instituted Feudal System introduced in 1861, Jews allowed to join mainstream Russian society Karl Marx arose to oppose Jewish inclusion 7

THE JEWISH PROBLEM 1880 Leon Pinsker proposed a solution to the Jewish problem Jews too different to assimilate into gentile nations, and needed a permanent place for their own Zionist movements began advocating a return to the Holy Lands Baron Rothschild attempted to establish some Jewish farm villages in Palestine, but without permission 8

THE DREYFUS AFFAIR: FRENCH ANTI-SEMITISM 9

HERZL: JEWS MUST HAVE THEIR OWN HOMELAND The proper homeland for the Jews was Palestine Herzl not a religious man, he saw this as a practical political solution He began seeking support of wealthy Jews but was turned away The common Jews embraced his message 1898 World Zionist Organization was created He approached the Ottoman Empire and offered to buy Palestine from them They counter-offered with Mesopotamia 10

WORLD WAR 1: JEWS AID BRITAIN Britain offered Herzl Uganda Zionist congress rejected it Jewish families began migrating to Palestine on their own 1906: Total population of Palestine was 60,000 40,000 Jews, 15,000 Christians, 5,000 Muslims 1914: 85,000 Jews lived in Palestine WWI, Jews established a spy network for the British 11

1917 BALFOUR DECLARATION British were running out of gun powder, not enough acetone Chaim Weitzman developed a way to make acetone from horse manure British asked him how they could repay him and he asked for a homeland for the Jews Balfour Declaration said that Britain looked favorably upon giving Jews a homeland 1917, British allowed Jews to emigrate to Palestine 12

1920 s POLISH IMMIGRATION TO PALESTINE 13

1933 HITLER COMES TO POWER Germany in a terrible Depression 100,000 German Jews fled to Palestine Arabs reacted by attacking the Jewish settlers 1937 the Peel Commission recommended splitting Palestine into separate Arab and Jewish states 1939 Germany invaded Poland, British stopped Jews from going to Palestine at Arab s insistence 14

MAY 14, 1948 ISRAEL IS RE-BORN IN A DAY 1947 Britain turned over control of Palestine to the UN UN officially partitioned the land into Arab and Jewish territories Muslims could not tolerate Jews having a state in the Middle East Isaiah 66:8 15

ARABS ATTACK THE NATION OF ISRAEL THE NEXT DAY 5 Arab armies swept into Israel Arab League asked Arabs living in Israel to leave About ½ did, and moved to the western bank of the Kingdom of Jordan Jordan, Egypt, Syria, Iraq, and Lebanon attacked 1949 hostilities cease 16

THE WEST BANK Thousands of Arabs left homes in Israel and went to the West Bank Arabs lost the war they started, the Arab refugees left stranded Arab nations refused to take-in these West Bank refugees Israel offered to take them back, but Arab League said not unless they took in ALL Arabs from the region who wanted to come to Israel Goal was to make the refugees sympathetic figures to the world and to blame Israel 17

JERUSALEM WAS STILL IN THE HANDS OF THE ARABS LUKE 21:21 YESHUA SAID: Jerusalem will be trampled on by Gentiles until the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled. 18

SIX-DAY WAR: JUNE 1967 BEFORE AFTER Israeli held territory 19

JERUSALEM: BACK IN THE HANDS OF THE JEWS We are at the wall! The Holy City was retaken since being in gentile hands starting in 70 A.D. This is the sign that Christ told us to watch for in Luke 21 Matthew 24:32-35 THIS generation shall not pass until all these things have happened The Kingdom of God is at hand 20

FROM BLACK SEPTEMBER TO THE PLO What about the Arab refugees? Black September, led by Arafat killed 11 Israeli athletes at the 1972 Munich Olympics Later changed name to Palestine Liberation Organization Legitimized as the government of the Arab refugees of the West Bank Now called Palestinians, but were actually immigrants and wanderers from various Arab and Muslim nations Before 1967 a Palestinian was ONLY a Jew! 21

MODERN ISRAEL Palestinians want the Gaza, West Bank, and Jerusalem 7 million people living in Israel, 80% are Jews Israeli Arabs have full citizenship and their own Knesset representatives Palestinian and Muslim goal is extermination of Israel and the Jews They are Satan s expendable pawns 22

SATAN S LAST GASP Satan s only hope is the destruction of Israel and the Jewish people Yeshua WILL be returning to the Mt. of Olives in Jerusalem This IS the FINAL ingathering of God s chosen people, they will not be leaving again Israel will endure much, and there will be a Palestinian State But in the end, the Jews will survive and God will purify them 23

A 4000 YEAR OLD CIRCLE Believers have 2 duties before us: 1) Take the Good News to the Jewish people 2) Comfort God s people and stand with them no matter what Genesis 12:3 I will bless those who bless you, but I will curse anyone who curses you; by you all the families of the earth will be blessed 24
