Shocked by the viciousness of the political arena, they then scream, Religious freedom. Our religious freedom is under assault. Politics is hardball. For any Christian individual or group, or anyone else for that matter, to enter the political arena with any proposals, religious or not, without expectations of serious and vigorous pushback is either a sign of extraordinary naivete, an inordinate sense of entitlement, or both. Christian naivete and/or sense of entitlement is the only thing under assault. Their religious liberty gives them the freedom to hold and express their views. It does not include the right to have their views accepted or even respected. Their freedom does not extend to their enforcing their views upon others. The political arena is not a place appropriate for anyone who possesses the slightest degree of decency. God s people should not participate in the perverted game played in the political arena. Christians would be better served to leave the arena for the wild beasts. And rather than yell fire, they would be much better off shouting the warning invitation, Go ye out from among the nations, even from Babylon, from the midst of wickedness, which is spiritual Babylon (DC 133. 14 ). Yes, it is time to leave. If they are determined to continue to play gladiator in that area, I suggest they put on their cup, gird themselves with harder armor, hitch up their big boy pants or any other like-minded metaphor they prefer and stop playing the religious freedom card.

In a congregation that is likely still supporting Caligula at about a 60% clip, we sang, apparently without any sense of irony, an opening hymn with this first verse, Oh say, what is truth? [I perked up, here] Tis the fairest gem that the riches of worlds can produce, [I was still holding it together, but Really? I wondered. The fairest gem? Are any of these Caligula loyalists hearing a word of what we are signing?] And priceless the value of truth will be when the proud monarch s costliest diadem [this is when I began to lose it] is counted but dross and refuse. [If anyone is listening, do they know what they just sang?] The fairest gem is truth. What, then, is the proud monarch s costliest diadem? Hint It isn t any bejeweled crown that sits atop the monarch s pate. No, it represents the words the very best of them--that flow from the proud monarch s mouth. You see? The gem (truth) is compared to the proud monarch s diadem (his lying words). The former is priceless, the latter is rubbish of less worth than garbage. Two jewels: one the fairest, the other worthless garbage. Truth verses lies. What, I wondered, would Caligula folks make of that? Probably conclude that this irreverent hymnist had yielded to the lure of fake news! friday,7.september.2018 In my last Just Quips post, I grew rhapsodic on Woodruff s latest book, Fear. Such a title does not seem, I opined, quite intense enough. Perhaps, Terror, Horror, Alarm, or Panic might have been a more appropriate title. Blasphemy, would certainly be best. Anyway, today I was interested to see that when ask which they fear most terrorists, immigrants, or Trump (A.K.A. Caligula) over 60% of Germans answered, C, Trump. Now, I would think that this result on the part of respondents does not reflect Germans actual fear index. More likely, they were simply trying to make a point: the man scares the bejebeers out of us. In some ways, though, the question is a trick question, for Caligula is a terrorist. He has, for example, followed and intensified Obama s drone terror all over the planet the one thing that he can agree with his predecessor on we have the right to invade others sovereign airspace with impunity and murder other nations civilians anytime we get the inch to kill. For this reason, I have toyed with the idea of alternating other nicknames with that of Caligula. Kishkumen has seemed appropriate, but too few would understand the allusion. Same with Gadianton, though this would work nicely too. Oh, and I mustn t forget Amalickiah. But, I think I ll just stick with Caligula. Most everyone knows who he was, and my meaning is understood by a wider audience.
thursday,6.september.2018 Bob Woodruff of Watergate and Deepthroat fame has reportedly written in his newest book, Fear, that Defense Secretary James Mattis described Caligula as possessing the understanding of a fifth or sixth grader. If this is an accurate description of Caligula s grasp of real world politics, Fear is an understatement of gigantic proportions. Terror or Horror would be a better description of the reaction of any reasonable American. That said, it seems highly likely that any such statement on the part of Mattis was intended as hyperbole, and was used to make a point: the man is daft. So, I assume that Mattis is exaggerating by at least a factor of 2. This generous estimation of Caligula s understanding means that he possesses the understanding of a high school senior. Still discomfiting to he sure. This would warrant a book title, at its least exaggerated at Alarm, or Its Time to Panic. tueday.4.september.2018 Toward the end of the Obama administration Holder opined that criminal investigations or indictments should not be conducted in such a way as to influence elections. Caligula, paragon of virtue that he is, has recently complained that indictments of dirty GOP politicians are impacting the up-coming mid-term elections. Of course, what Holder did not sufficiently appreciate is that criminal behavior among American politicians of all strips is pervasive, rampant and continuous. American politicians never take a recess from graft, fraud, bribery, and every other form of political chicanery. Nor could Holder or any other decent human being have predicted that we would so soon have a president who never saw a crime the he did not appreciate, admire, and wish that he had possessed enough foresight to have committed, himself, the devious crime. Investigations and indictments must not take recesses for what has become constant, 24x7x365 days a year electioneering. thursday.30.august.2018 Conservatives! Evangelicals! They stick with Caligula because he is doing their bidding, they say. Caligula is an evil, twisted man. An evil and twisted man is happy and comfortable doing their bidding and enacting the conservative agenda. Should they, perhaps, consider the possibility that their conservative agenda is evil and twisted? With all due respect to Socrates, humans and human societies cannot be reduced to mathematical formulas, such as that above. Things are not so simple and formulaic. Caligula s responses not one or two, but four or five to the passing of John McCain is the perfect illustration of the nature of the man I call, generously, Caligula. His insecurities, apparently amplified by such men as McCain, know no bounds. He is a vindictive, petty, small, mean-spirited ass. There is not a sliver of decency in his bones; not a drop of virture in his blood; not a sign of godliness in his spirit. He is simply evil, through and through.
