Jesus challenges our prejudices about rank and honor, and reminds us that God is no respecter of persons. 1st Reading, Ecclesiasticus 3:17-20, 28-19. The sage advises humility as a way of treating our neighbor well and pleasing God. 2nd Reading, Hebrews 12:18-19, 22-24. The author presents us with a powerful and beautiful vision of our final end: eternal life with God and all the angels and saints. Gospel Luke 14:1, 7-14. Jesus tells a parable and adds teaching to show two things: that there will be a general resurrection and that God invites us all to the wedding banquet of eternal life.
