Easter Sunday St. Joseph s Parish Bulletin March 31/April 1, 2018 DEAR PARISHIONERS, Alleluia! Christ is risen! Let us give thanks to Christ our Saviour, for he has loved us first and gave his life for us so that we might live. For the newly baptized illumined by the light of Christ, our leaders and all holy people, those in pain and sorrow, for the dying and the dead, we give glory and praise to you, O Living God! Please join us on, April 8, 2018 Divine Mercy Sunday at 3PM for the Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament and the Chaplet of the Divine Mercy. There will be confession however, if you have gone to confession within 2 weeks, then confession is not required. Please leave the space for those in need. May almighty God, who has redeemed us and made us his children through the resurrection of his Son our Lord, bestow upon you the riches of his blessing. Amen! Fr. Jarek & Fr. John THIS IS THE DAY THE LORD HAS MADE; LET US REJOICE AND BE GLAD! Easter is the great celebration of victory of life over death. Ours is an Easter religion. We do not deny or turn away from the evils that surround us: the wars that have killed some 100 million people in our (last) century; the poverty that grips more than half of the human race; the hunger that kills millions every year and ruins the lives of millions more; the discrimination that divides the human family into contending parties. We do not deny these miseries, but we refuse to surrender to their power because of our faith in the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Suffering will be vindicated; death will be overcome; a new life will arise: that is the Easter message of the paschal mystery. "Let us feast with joy in the Lord." Just as Christ passed through death to resurrection, so too will the world pass through its suffering to the glory of a new life. There is no room for despair: our Easter faith tells us that God will "raise us up and renew our lives." Copyright 1994, Gerald Darring. All Rights Reserved. Sometimes the robbers were only interested in looting items buried with the dead. Later they might steal bodies for medical research. In the time of Jesus, Romans believed that the nails used to crucify a man could be "lucky" keepsakes. Mary of Magdala may have thought that thieves had taken the body of Christ. She pleads with Peter and John to inspect the sepulchre and search for the body. Later she returns and meets the risen Jesus. She will know that his body was not taken. It was transformed and glorified. The Sunday after Easter is Divine Mercy Sunday! How should we prepare for this great Feast of Mercy? Jesus told St. Faustina that this Feast of Mercy would be a very special day when all the divine floodgates through which graces flow are opened. (Diary 699) Our Lord made a great promise to all those souls who would go to Confession and then receive Him in Holy Communion on the Feast of Mercy, on the Sunday after Easter, which is now called Divine Mercy Sunday throughout the Catholic Church. Jesus promised that The soul that will go to Confession and receive Holy Communion shall obtain the complete forgiveness of sins and punishment. (Diary 699) He went on to say I want to grant a complete pardon to the souls that will go to Confession and receive Holy Communion on the Feast of My Mercy. (Diary 1109) We want to encourage everyone to take advantage of this incredible promise and the additional Plenary Indulgence on this great Feast of Mercy Divine Mercy Sunday. We want you to benefit fully from these promises, and we also want you to notify all of your family and friends about them too and urge them to return to the practice of their faith! The Image of The Divine Mercy, which Our Lord requested to be solemnly blessed and venerated on this day, will be on display in our church. Pope John Paul II said that the image portrays the Risen Jesus Christ bringing Mercy to the whole world. Our Lord said I want the image to be solemnly blessed on the first Sunday after Easter, and I want it to be venerated publicly so that every soul may know about it. I promise that the soul that will venerate this image will not perish. (Diary 341, 48) Please take the time to visit with this Image of The Divine Mercy and venerate Jesus. Jesus said to St. Faustina I am offering people a vessel with which they are to keep coming for graces to the fountain of mercy. That vessel is this image with the signature: Jesus, I trust in You. (Diary 327) The two rays denote Blood and Water. The pale ray stands for the Water which makes souls righteous. The red ray stands for the Blood which is the life of souls. These two rays issued forth from the very depths of My tender mercy when My agonized Heart was opened by a lance on the cross. Happy is the one who will dwell in their shelter, for the just hand of God shall not lay hold of him. (Diary 299) About the feastday Divine Mercy Sunday, Jesus said tell the whole world about My inconceivable mercy. I desire that the Feast of Mercy be a refuge and shelter for all souls, and especially poor sinners. On that day the very depths of My tender mercy are open. I pour out a whole ocean of graces upon the souls who approach the Fount of My Mercy. On that day all the divine floodgates through which graces flow are opened. Let no soul fear to draw near to Me, even though its sins be as scarlet... Mankind will not have peace until it turns to the Fount of My Mercy. (Diary 699) Our Lord said When you go to confession, to this fountain of My mercy, the Blood and Water which came forth from My Heart always flows down upon your soul and Every time you go to confession, immerse yourself entirely in My mercy with great trust, so that I may pour the bounty of My grace upon your soul. When you approach the confessional, know this, that I Myself am waiting there for you. I am only hidden by the priest, but I Myself act in your soul. Here the misery of the soul meets the God of mercy (1602) Make your confession before Me. The person of the priest is only a screen. Never analyze what sort of a priest that I am making use of; open your soul in confession to Me, and I will fill it with My light. (1725) It is required of all Catholics to confess their serious sins at least once every year. If you haven t yet met this obligation then take advantage of this outstanding opportunity to receive an outpouring of an ocean of graces that Jesus promises on this day. Those who have already confessed their sins should make room for others. The Church allows for one to go to Confession for up to about 20 days, before or after Divine Mercy Sunday. Excerpts taken from the Diary of St. Faustina, copyright 1987 Marians of the Immaculate Conception, Stockbridge MA., USA Bulletin insert taken from the www.divinemercysunday.com website and may be copied and re-produced without permission.

MESSAGE FOR ALL CATHOLICS: JESUS IS IN THE CONFESSIONAL Catholics around the world are returning to the practice of their faith despite attacks from evil forces to discredit the Church. The attacks are meant to turn people away from the confession of their sins, which is the key to receiving the mercy of God. In recent revelations, Our Lord Jesus indicated to St. Faustina that He would give mankind a last chance before He returns to judge the World. This "last hope of salvation" is the recourse to His Feast of Mercy. Jesus first appeared to St. Faustina in 1931 and He told her that before He comes again, He would pour out His mercy on a special Feast of Mercy. In that vision Jesus was dressed in a white garment and had two brilliant rays of light coming from His Heart, one red as blood, the other clear as water. He told her to paint an image of Him just as she had seen Him and to sign it "Jesus, I Trust In You." She was also to work on establishing this Feast of Mercy in the Church and to have the painted image venerated throughout the world. Our Lord said that this feast is to be celebrated on the first Sunday after Easter. On May 5th, 2000 the Vatican issued a decree and fulfilled the will of Christ by establishing this feast, now called "Divine Mercy Sunday". Jesus told St. Faustina, "I desire that the Feast of Mercy be a refuge and shelter for all souls, and especially poor sinners. On that day all the divine floodgates through which graces flow are opened. The soul that will go to Confession and receive Holy Communion shall obtain the complete forgiveness of sins and punishment. Let no soul fear to draw near to Me, even though its sins be as scarlet."(diary, 699) For example, a person, who had been a terrible sinner all their life could return to the Church and be totally pardoned by first going to Confession and then receiving Holy Communion on that Feast of Mercy. Jesus said, "Souls perish in spite of My bitter Passion. I am giving them the last hope of salvation; that is, the Feast of My Mercy... Tell souls about this great mercy of Mine, because the awful day, the day of My justice is near." (Diary, 965) It doesn't take a genius to see the times that we are living in. We only need to look at what is happening in our world today. Repent of your sins and ask for the Lord's Mercy. How many today receive Holy Communion with souls stained with mortal sins? When a person receives the true Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity of Jesus in Holy Communion without first going to Confession to cleanse their souls, that soul is going even deeper into sin. Many have not confessed their sins in a long time so this special promise of a complete pardon of sin and punishment is an immense incentive to come to Jesus, with trust, before He returns again to judge the world. Don't ever be afraid to go to Confession. Jesus said, "When you approach the confessional, know this, that I Myself am waiting there for you. I am only hidden by the priest, but I Myself act in your soul. Come with faith to the feet of My representative...and make your confession before Me. The person of the priest is, for Me, only a screen. Never analyze what sort of a priest that I am making use of; open your soul in confession as you would to Me, and I will fill it with My light. Here the misery of the soul meets the God of mercy. (1725, 1602, 723)

On the evening of His resurrection Jesus appeared to His Apostles and the first thing that He did was to give them the power to forgive sins (John 20:19-31). This is done through the power of the Holy Spirit. For sure it wasn t the Lord s intention for just the Apostles to forgive sins but rather for that power to be passed down through the Holy Spirit to the priests of today. That is why Confession is so much of an uplifting experience; we are actually receiving heavenly graces and the forgiveness of sins from the Lord Jesus Himself! Most people haven t spent much time thinking about the future. Some might think that they are brilliant and successful in this life, but what is that as compared to eternity? The father of lies has everyone focused on this life while not thinking about what happens in the eternal life. If you really want to be wise, think about where you are going to spend eternity. We will be there for quite a long time. Many do not believe in the fires of hell. Unfortunately, those are the ones that usually will end up there. Be wise and think about it very seriously! Many feel that their sins are unforgivable but, Jesus said, Were a soul like a decaying corpse, so that from a human standpoint, there would be no hope of restoration and everything would already be lost, it is not so with God. The miracle of Divine Mercy restores that soul in full. In the Tribunal of Mercy (the sacrament of Confession)...the greatest miracles take place and are incessantly repeated." (1448) "Here the misery of the soul meets the God of mercy. (1602) Every sin imaginable could be forgiven by Him! One should attempt to go to Confession before Divine Mercy Sunday. We must also remember the precepts of the Catholic Church which include attending Mass on every Sunday and Holy Day of Obligation, to confess sins at least once a year, and to provide for the material needs of the Church. It would be a mistake for someone who has been away from the Church to think that they could return just for that one feastday. Our Lord knows our intentions and part of making a good Confession is intending never to sin again. Missing Mass on Sundays and Holydays of Obligation are serious sins. We should be serious about our faith and do the best we can to help to support our Church and to help it to save as many souls as possible. Remember these words of Jesus, I desire that the Feast of Mercy be a refuge and shelter for all souls, and especially poor sinners. On that day the very depths of My tender mercy are open. The soul that will go to Confession and receive Holy Communion shall obtain complete forgiveness of sins and punishment." (699) "Souls perish in spite of My bitter Passion. I am giving them the last hope of salvation; that is, the Feast of My Mercy. If they will not adore My mercy, they will perish for all eternity...tell souls about this great mercy of Mine, because the awful day, the day of My justice, is near. (965) Contact your local Catholic Church and arrange go to Confession as soon as you can, so that you may be ready always to receive Jesus in Holy Communion, especially on Divine Mercy Sunday, when you can receive the total forgiveness of your sins and punishment! It is like receiving a brand new start in life! To find out about Confession and Mass times for this feast, call your local Catholic Church.
