I hope you were able to attend the Fall District Meeting and enjoy the fellowship and the inspiring message given by our guest speaker, Mrs. Belva Tibbs. Many thanks to the ladies of the Lakewood Unit for making us welcome and providing for our comfort and enjoyment. I would like to bring the following items to your attention: 2016 UNITED METHODIST WOMEN S SUNDAY MATERIALS were emailed to everyone on our email list. Please share with your president in the event that she does not have email access. THE LIST OF THE 2016 OFFICERS should be sent to District Secretary Pam Faup following your election. MEMBERSHIP CENSUS FORMS are provided in this issue of the Beacon. If you do not have a Membership Coordinator, please make sure the form is filled out and returned to Sandra Marek. A heads up: UMW nationally is going to expect each unit to send this information via email in the future. IF THE PRESIDENT DOES NOT USE EMAIL, please designate someone in your unit who will receive them and pass the information on to the president. Please inform Michelle Gillespie [Mlg429@att.net] of the person s email address if that person does not now receive The Beacon. THE UMW NATIONAL SEMINAR was held in Chicago with the theme Interrupting Indifference: Jesus, Justice and Joy. The emphasis was on Climate Justice, Maternal and Child Health, Criminalization and Racial Justice, Gender and Economic Justice. Units are encouraged to explore Jesus life as an example of concrete social action, build skills to respond to the social justice challenges, visit local United Methodist Women-related centers to learn from grassroots leaders, and engage in dynamic dialogue and worship. Please consider this as you prepare your programs for 2016. WEST SIDE COMMUNITY HOUSE, celebrating its 125 th anniversary, is grateful for the financial support it receives from local UMW units and individual members. Your support is invaluable in helping our important mission continue to operate. I will be sending a letter asking that you help celebrate our 125 years by making a contribution of at least $125. Many units, however, have traditionally made more generous contributions, and we depend on your continued generosity. I have used our because WSCH is one of UMW s missions. LOCAL UNITS: Please share activities and/or programs your unit has found successful. Email me and I will include them in The Beacon as space allows. Mcb98@att.net. May the love of God fill your hearts with love and understanding as you fulfill our purpose of rendering service to women, youth and children. Margaret Bullard, President

The Beacon Page 3 Let us pray Dear Father: BEING THANKFUL In your Word it tells us in I Thess. 5:18: In everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you. We want to thank you, God, for being concerned about us; leaving us your Word. Because of your concern for us we are constantly in a state of Being Thankful. We declare as Psalms 100 directs us to: Enter into your gates with thanksgiving, and into your courts with praise. We are to be thankful unto you and bless your holy name. Please whisper to us constantly to obey Psalms 100. We pray that you let us always enter your gates, your temple, your church, your houses of worship with thanksgiving and praise on our lips and thanks in our hearts. For we are the sheep of your pasture and you are our Shepherd. Your direction is our only hope and we thank you for your hand over our hand and your light onto our path. We are thankful that you keep us in perfect peace, if only we keep our mind stayed on you. We are also thankful that, you have done all our works in us. We re thankful that we do not labor in vain; that even if we come last you will make us first. We are so thankful that you are mindful of us. How much thanks can cover all that you have done, are doing, and will continue to do? Our too much is not enough. We lack thanks for all your bountiful blessings, joys, and struggles. We count it all joy. Our thanks swells up in our hearts and as it bursts forth we are thankful for the ripples that fall on others, on happy witnesses who will confess and profess the heart swelling effects of the Lord s blessings upon his children. Thank you for streams of blessings that spring forth from a God who is the benefactor of thankful children. We pray that you will have us reap what we sow. So Lord, So sings my soul, my Savior God to thee, how great thou art, how great thou art. Thank you, Lord, for Hebrews 13:15, By him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips giving thanks to his name. AMEN. Dr. Dottie R. Hendricks Spiritual Growth Coordinator
