January 2019 Ottawa Evangelical United Methodist Church Newsletter Striving to connect with god, each other, and the world. Happy New Year to you and your family! Impressions from our heartfelt outreaches and missions in 2018 still linger in my mind. I feel very proud of Leland and Evangelical UMC. Through the joint Christmas Eve candle light service at Evangelical UMC, we raised $1,600.00. I have been very touched and inspired by our caring and loving hearts for the neighbors in need. We will be sending the money to the Ottawa Friendship House in Ottawa, who are supporting those who are struggling with developmental disabilities. In addition, Leland church packed 16 care-packages for our veterans and supported our neighbors who couldn t afford to buy Christmas presents by buying Christmas presents for them. Evangelical church also packed 23 Christmas Shoe boxes and collected food during Advent Season for Women s Shelter (Under His Wings) in Ottawa. It reminds us of our definite mission on earth, serving God and serving others. Let s continue to open our hearts and souls to God and to others in order to fulfill the Kingdom of God on earth through our faithful actions and words. I am very excited to see how God will be providing us and guiding us in 2019. In 2019, we are going to have a great opportunity to experience God. I would like you to take this opportunity as a turning point in your lives. We will be coming out of our comfort zone and going down to Guatemala in May. Linda Walter and I are planning to go down and still encouraging more people to join us. Everything down there would be a whole new experience; food, climate, culture, language, etc. However, I guarantee that God would teach us a lot through this mission trip and guide us through God s Spirit. Please, join us! Leland Church will be having Confirmation Sunday in May. And then, Evangelical Church s confirmation class will be setting out in September. I feel very blessed that we have children and youth in our both churches and we are able to walk our faith journey together with them. Let us continue to put our hearts together to support our children and youth, so that they can be nurtured and strengthened in faith and love in our Lord Jesus Christ. Leland Church will be celebrating the160 th anniversary in 2020. Let s keep in mind that how we can be more involved in local community and spread the power of salvation in Jesus Christ to our neighbors through our 160 th Celebration. Love and best wishes for a happy and blessed New Year to everyone! Pastor Dave
