Service of Divine Worship January 13, 2019 9:00AM, 10:45AM Sanctuary and Fellowship Hall We rest our hearts in God s presence as we prepare for worship PRELUDE BUILD MY LIFE We celebrate God s presence with us and ask for his Spirit to work powerfully among us WELCOME & INVOCATION God calls us to worship him in spirit and in truth CALL TO WORSHIP PSALM 149:1-2, 4 Leader: Praise the LORD! Sing to the LORD a new song, his praise in the assembly of the godly! People: Let Israel be glad in his Maker; let the children of Zion rejoice in their King! For the Lord takes pleasure in his people; he adorns the humble with salvation. 1

We sing praises to God for who he is and for what he has done SONGS OF PRAISE CREATION SINGS THE FATHER S SONG Creation sings the Father s song; he calls the sun to wake the dawn And run the course of day, till evening falls in crimson rays. His fingerprints in flakes of snow; his breath upon this spinning globe; He charts the eagle s flight, commands the newborn baby s cry. Chorus: Hallelujah! Let all creation stand and sing: Hallelujah! Fill the earth with songs of worship, tell the wonders of creation s King. Creation gazed upon his face; the ageless One in time s embrace, Unveiled the Father s plan of reconciling God and man. A second Adam walked the earth, whose blameless life would break the curse, Whose death would set us free to live with him eternally. Chorus Creation longs for his return, when Christ shall reign upon the earth; The bitter wars that rage are birth pains of a coming age. When he renews the land and sky, all heav n will sing and earth reply With one resplendent theme: the glory of our God and King! Chorus 2x Fill the earth with songs of worship, tell the wonders of creation s King. CCLI Song # 5333798; Words & Music by K. Getty & S. Townend; 2008 Thankyou Music; CCLI License #152421 BE UNTO YOUR NAME We are a moment, you are forever, Lord of the ages, God before time; We are a vapor, you are eternal, love everlasting, reigning on high. Chorus: Holy, holy, Lord God almighty. Worthy is the Lamb who was slain; Highest praises, honor, and glory be unto your name, be unto your name. We are the broken, you are the healer, Jesus, Redeemer, mighty to save; You are the love song we ll sing forever, bowing before you, blessing your name. Chorus 3x Be unto your name. We acknowledge our need of forgiveness and renewal through the cleansing blood of Jesus CONFESSION OF SIN Gracious and holy Father, we approach you in need of forgiveness. You created us to be like you, but we have sinned and have fallen short of your glory. You made us to be your ambassadors and stewards in this world, yet we have taken advantage of the world and those who live in it. In our sin, we have dishonored your image in ourselves and in our neighbors. Forgive us, O Lord, and remind us of the infinite worth we have in you. Help us to live and love as your image-bearers. We pray all this in the name of Jesus Christ, who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. Amen. God reminds us of his promise of forgiveness in Christ ASSURANCE OF PARDON 1 JOHN 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. God gives us a visible sign to confirm his covenant promise, and we respond with faith in him SACRAMENT OF BAPTISM SANCTUARY 9:00 service Paxton Lane, covenant son of Charlie & Erica Liesfeld Peter William, covenant son of Mark & Gretchen Bass 10:45 service Jordan Grey, covenant daughter of Alexander & Jaime Pino FELLOWSHIP HALL 9:00 service Beckett Robert, covenant son of Eric & Sara Wilson Dottie Grace, covenant daughter Eric & Sara Wilson SONG OF REJOICING GLORIA PATRI Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost; As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end, Amen, amen. We enjoy and extend the peace of the gospel to one another GIVING OF THE PEACE Leader: Because Christ has cleansed us from all unrighteousness, we now have peace with God and peace with one another. May the peace of Christ be with you. People: And also with you! We give thanks to God and bring our needs to him CONGREGATIONAL PRAYER You can join us in praying for our community and world this morning; the Flock Notes are on page 9 in your worship guide. If you would like to submit a prayer request, fill out the prayer request card and place it in the offering plate. If you would like someone to pray with you after the service, men and women from our leadership will be available in the front. As recipients of his grace, we give back to God a portion of what is already his PRESENTATION OF OUR TITHES AND OFFERINGS We want to be a generous community. In response to the grace we ve received, we seek to give cheerfully, diligently, proportionately, and sacrificially (2 Cor 8:1-15). Many of our people give online (mcleanpres.org); you can also place your gift in the offering plate. Read more about how we care for each other, as well as our local & global missions outreach, in the Flock Notes on page 9. Please also fill out the Keeping Connected pad and pass it down your row and back. OFFERTORY THE OLD HUNDREDTH PSALM TUNE Chancel Choir (Sanctuary) All people that on earth do dwell, sing to the Lord with cheerful voice; Him serve with fear, his praise forth tell, come ye before him and rejoice. The Lord, ye know, is God indeed, without our aid he did us make; We are his folk, he doth us feed, and for his sheep he doth us take. O enter then his gates with praise, approach with joy his courts unto; Praise, laud, and bless his name always, for it is seemly so to do. 4

For why? The Lord our God is good, his mercy is forever sure; His truth at all times firmly stood, and shall from age to age endure. To Father, Son and Holy Ghost, the God whom heaven and earth adore, From men and from the angel host be praise and glory evermore. Amen. Music by R. Vaughan Williams, Oxford Press 1953 Text by W. Kethe; Daye s Psalter, 1560 THE PERFECT WISDOM OF OUR GOD Congregation (Fellowship Hall) The perfect wisdom of our God revealed in all the universe. All things created by his hand and held together at his command. He knows the myst ries of the seas; the secrets of the stars are his. He guides the planets on their way and turns the earth through another day. The matchless wisdom of his ways, that mark the path of righteousness. His word a lamp unto my feet; his Spirit teaching and guiding me. And O the myst ry of the cross, that God should suffer for the lost So that the fool might shame the wise, and all the glory might go to Christ! O grant me wisdom from above to pray for peace and cling to love, And teach me humbly to receive the sun and rain of your sovereignty. Each strand of sorrow has a place within this tapestry of grace, So through the trials I choose to say: Your perfect will in your perfect way. God speaks to us through the preaching of his word SERMON IN HIS IMAGE 2. Equal in His Image We respond to God s word through song SONG OF SENDING GRACE UNMEASURED Grace unmeasured, vast and free, that knew me from eternity, That called me out before my birth, to bring you glory on this earth. Grace amazing, pure and deep, that saw me in my misery, That took my curse and owned my blame, so I could bear your righteous name. Chorus: Grace (grace, grace) paid for my sins and brought me to life. Grace (grace, grace) clothes me with pow r to do what is right. Grace (grace, grace) leads me to heav n where I ll see your face, And never cease to thank you for your grace. Grace abounding strong and true, that makes me long to be like you, That turns me from my selfish pride, to love the cross on which you died. Grace unending, all my days, you ll give me strength to run this race. And when my years on earth are through, the praise will all belong to you. Chorus 2x CCLI Song #4662862; Words & Music by B.
