ORDER OF WORSHIP Gathering Chime Prelude Jesus Shall Reign arr. Dickson Justin Dickson, Trumpet Welcome and Announcements (Please sign the Welcome Book and pass it to your neighbor.) *Call to Worship (* Please stand as you are able.) One: Bless the Lord, this day and always. All: Let us praise God s name together. One: Taste and see that the Lord is good. All: Happy are those who trust in God. One: Let us worship God! *Hymn All Creatures of Our God and King (vv. 1-4) No. 15 *Call to Confession *Prayer of Confession Merciful God, we confess that we have not lived as your faithful children. We have been angry with the world and nursed grudges against our adversaries. We have hoarded the fruits of our labors rather than share our bounty with the needy. We have not built up our neighbors with words of kindness but have indulged in evil gossip. We have not forgiven the wrongs others have done, even though we desire your forgiveness toward us in Jesus Christ. Heal us, O God, and give us the grace to love as Christ has loved us and gave himself up for us. Amen. Silent Confession 2

*Response Lord, Have Mercy No. 576 *Assurance of Forgiveness *Response Let Us with a Gladsome Mind (v.1) No. 31 Let us with a gladsome mind praise the Lord who is so kind: for God s mercies shall endure, ever faithful, ever sure. *Sharing the Peace of Christ One: May the peace of the Lord Jesus Christ be with you, All: and also with you. One: Let us share that peace with one another. Prayer for Illumination Scripture Readings Old Testament: Psalm 34:1-8 OT, p. 508 One: This is the word of the Lord. All: Thanks be to God. Epistle: Ephesians 4:25-5:2 NT, p. 194 Sermon: Expectation vs. Reality Mitzi Lesher-Thomas 3

*Affirmation of Faith from A Study Catechism, PC(USA) Ques. 3 How do you live for the love of God? I love because God first loved me. God loves me in Christ with a love that never ends. Amazed by grace, I no longer live for myself. I live for the Lord who died and rose again, triumphant over death, for my sake. Therefore, I take those around me to heart, especially those in particular need, knowing that Christ died for them no less than for me. *Hymn Called as Partners in Christ s Service No. 761 Time with Our Children Offering Offertory Prayer to the Holy Spirit Jordan Rebecca Leggett, Soloist *Doxology Praise God, from Whom All Blessings Flow No. 608 Praise God, from whom all blessings flow; praise Christ, all people here below; praise Holy Spirit evermore; praise Triune God, whom we adore. Amen. *Prayer of Dedication Prayers of Joy and Concern and the Lord s Prayer p.35 Lord in your goodness: Hear our praise; Lord in your mercy: Hear our prayer. In Christ we are joined together as a dwelling place for God. Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever. 4 Amen.

*Hymn Together We Serve (vv. 1-3) No. 767 *Benediction * Hymn Together We Serve (v. 4) No. 767 Together, by grace, we witness and work, remembering Jesus, in whom we grow strong. Together we serve in Spirit and truth, remembering love in the strength of our song. *Postlude Postlude in C Major Clarke Today s Service Participants Ministers: Rev. Lori Pistor, Rev. CPC Travels to Guatemala this Fall: Come Along! The trip will be Tuesday, October 16 through October 23. New this trip: a chance to use hammers and saws! We plan to help finish the second story of the church by framing and installing doors and windows, and painting. All who like the "work" part of a mission trip will have the chance to do so! Additionally, we will celebrate the first year of scholarships, and enroll new scholarship students. Educators or those with an interest in education and literacy are especially invited on this trip. As Esperanza, we will provide the school with resources and work to set up more support programs. We will also help the church plan for a Sunday School and a youth group, which they have asked for. See the display in the Narthex or contact Medora Hix, medora.hix@carypresbyterian.org or call 6 the Church Office.

Important New Church Security Information The Building and Grounds Team and the Security Task Force are preparing a major step to enhance the safety and security of those who worship, meet, and otherwise use the church facilities. Entry codes will be issued to those needing access to the building during the week and on Sunday. The code will allow the user to open a specific door and enter the building. Codes will be issued to staff members, church members with regular or specific building access needs, and representatives of groups regularly using CPC facilities. All members may request a code. Code issuing will begin Sunday, August 19, with full implementation planned for September. Keypads and codes will not be active immediately. The congregation will be notified when the system is operable. CPC T-Shirt Orders: Last Day is August 19 We are again offering CPC t-shirts for sale.
