September birthdays were celebrated. Don Sierk gave $50 to the Education Fund, in honor of his 50 th wedding anniversary. Merle Anderson gave a recap of the Global Grant funds that are helping to support the GMOC orphanage in Uganda, Africa. $10,623 from eight Rotary Clubs turned into $80,890. This also included a large donation from Hy-Vee and the matching funds from Rotary International. Robbinah Hakiza is so happy to have the opportunity to visit the Unites States and speak to the Rotary Clubs whom are helping her community and meet the sponsors of her children in the orphanage that she is the founder and director of. The money that she has received provides basic education materials such as pencils and text books for the school. Other items obtained are kitchen supplies for the homes in the community, child and maternal health classes, and water, hygiene and sanitation needs. The Ecosun toilet, reservoir tank and faucets for washing hands will help control disease and improve sanitation. The land produces crops for three seasons. 40 women received potato seed plants and 80 families received a goat. Chickens, goats and rabbits and raised for food, as they reproduce fairly quickly. The projects are sustainable and are excelling in many ways. She has so many thanks for Merle and his work to obtain this money for her to work with, to improve her community.
