Inactive Catholics: As a welcoming parish, we ask every parishioner to ask God to put in your heart people whose hearts we need to reach out and touch with God s love. Father would be delighted to meet with them. SACRAMENTAL LIFE RCIA: The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) is a process to bring non-catholics into the faith. Anyone seeking information or interested in becoming a part of this community of faith can call the parish office. Sacrament of Baptism: Baptisms are scheduled for the 1 st and 3 rd Sundays of the month following the 9:30 AM Mass. In order to understand and better appreciate this special sacrament, parents are required to attend the Pre-Baptismal Program, which is held on the last Saturday of each month at 7:00 PM in St. Basil s Rectory. Please contact the rectory to schedule your child s baptism. Sacrament of Marriage: Couples contemplating marriage should notify the rectory at least six months prior to the date to allow necessary time for proper preparation. Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick: Urgent calls will be attended to at any time of the day or night. Visitation of the Sick: Please call the parish for visitation of the sick at home, in the hospital, or health care facility. New Eve, immaculate in soul, spirit and body, created of the godly seed by the Spirit of God, you are the spiritual Mother of mankind. Pure Virgin, full of grace then and now, your whole being was raised Heavenly in full glory, to be elevate-d above all the hosts within the Kingdom of God. O Heavenly Mother, Queen of Heaven and earth, I recognize the glory of your highest title, the Immaculate Heart of Mary! Loving Mother, dispenser of endless blessings, you who continually intercede on our behalf, please present my need before your loving Son, Jesus. (Mention your request) O Immaculate Heart of Mary, I know that you are now presenting my need before Jesus, for you have never turned away those in dire need. Mother dearest, I await your favorable answer, submitting myself to the Divine will of the Lord, for all glories are His for ever and ever. Amen.
Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe Sunday, November 25, 2018 The First Reading is from the Book of the Prophet Daniel (7:13-14). The Book of Daniel was written to give hope to persecuted Jews during the rule of a cruel leader. Today s verses are taken from the middle of one of Daniel s visions. The vision begins with God, the Ancient One, sitting on his throne. It is a time of judgement. It is at this point that today s reading begins: As the visions continued during the night, I saw one like the Son of Man coming, In these verses, the author is assuring the persecuted Jews that God will send someone to save them from their persecutors. When we hear these words on the Feast of Christ the King, we know they are describing Jesus. This passage must have contributed to the people s expectations that Jesus will be a political leader who will overcome the Romans. Of course, these hopes are dashed when Jesus was crucified. However, after the Resurrection, the early church realizes that Jesus has fulfilled the hope expressed in this passage in a way that is completely beyond their most fervent dreams. Jesus establishes a spiritual kingdom. His dominion is an everlasting dominion, and his kingship shall not be destroyed. The Responsorial Psalm (93:1-2, 5) This psalm celebrates God s re-enthronement as King of Israel. It sings of God s domain over all of creation. Christian tradition applies these verses to Christ the King in his role as cosmic ruler. The Second Reading is from the Book of Revelation (1:5-8). Christ is identified as the faithful witness who testifies to God s truth to the point of death one who has made us a royal nation of priests in the service of God. When the Son of Man comes in the clouds, people shall lament him because of the way he was pierced and put to death. The words Alpha (beginning) and Omega (end) refer to the eternal nature of God who initiated history and who will bring it to conclusion. (18:33b-37). Today s Gospel is an excerpt from Jesus trial before Pilate. The chosen verses are a dialogue between Jesus and Pilate on the nature of Jesus kingship. When asked by Pilate if he is a king, Jesus points out that his kingship is not of this world but rather about testifying and witnessing to the truth. Jesus kingship is one that seeks allegiance of the heart from his people. Jesus wants to be King of our hearts. Jesus kingship does not seek to lord it over people but rather to serve. We know from watching Jesus that the only way to enter his kingdom is through trust in God and a life of service. Thanks to all the business people in the area for your generous donations and those who donated lovely theme baskets, TV, and monetary donations. Special thanks to the Bazaar Committee for their hard work the week before the bazaar to get the hall ready for the event. Also, for all the help to set up and take down. To the kitchen help for the delicious food they prepared. Yum-yum! To the Confirmation Class for their help. Great job! Thanks to all who baked for the bake sale, bought tickets for theme baskets, etc. Your support and dedication was greatly appreciated by the Committee. Time For a Change The Parish Liturgical Committee at a recent meeting decided by majority vote to replace the hanging Advent wreath used in past years at St. Basil s Church, as being no longer practical for several reasons, including safety. We have, therefore, purchased a new Advent wreath/candle stand, at a cost of approximately $1,800.00. If you would like to contribute to this purchase, please mark your contribution as Advent Wreath. Once again, we thank you for your generous help for this and all other projects for out Church and Parish.
