MARCH 31/APRIL 1, 2018 ST. ANDREW R.C. CHURCH PAGE 2 THE THEME We have heard this story so often that it may fail to impress us. Our attention may be more on Easter dinner, dyed eggs and baskets of candy. But how would this day be different if we had just discovered there is more to life than we could possibly have imagined? What difference would this discovery make on Monday morning? THE READINGS ACTS OF THE APOSTLES 10:34a, 37-43: Peter preaches the risen Christ to the Gentiles. COLOSSIANS 3:1-4: We who are baptized are bound to Christ. MARCH 31/APRIL 1, 2018 ST. ANDREW R.C. CHURCH PAGE 3 From Fr. Peter s Desk Easter Sunday Dear Parish Family: Today, we reach the high point of the Christian year: Easter Sunday. Christ is risen! Today we will renew our baptismal promises, rejecting sin and acknowledging the acceptance of our faith. In our First Reading today, we hear St. Peter telling members of the early church that they have been commissioned to preach and to testify in Jesus name. We too are also called to do this. It is our responsibility as members of the Body of Christ. We are called to bear witness in both word and deed that all who believe will be forgiven. There are two selections to choose from for our second reading but no matter which is proclaimed, the message is the same. St. Paul is telling us how we are to live differently now that Christ is risen. In his Letter to the Colossians, Paul tells us to seek what is above, because if we are part of the Body of Christ, we are now raised with Christ. In his letter to the Corinthians, he commands us to clear out the old yeast and become a fresh batch of dough. As believers, we all share in the Resurrection and are therefore transformed. In our Gospel reading, three different people approach the empty tomb in John s Gospel, and all three react differently. Mary Magdalene was afraid and upset, believing robbers had broken in. Peter was observant but confused and John saw and believe. My dear friends, like the disciples in today s Gospel, we acknowledge that the Resurrection belief is a mystery. As those who believe, however, the living witness to our faith is in our lives of concern, compassion and forgiveness. This is the clearest proof that the Lord is risen and active among us. Let us always continue to intensify our witness to the Resurrection by continuing the Risen Lord s Ministry. Happy Easter to all! God Bless You All, Fr. Peter STEWARDSHIP Stewardship Reflection Alleluia! Christ is risen and is victorious over sin and death! We are good stewards of our faith if, like St. Paul, we share this good news whenever and wherever we can. Living Stewardship We are grateful this week for all stewards in our parish whose lives reflect the joy of Christ s Resurrection.
