First United Methodist Church 103 W Main Street P.O. Box 72 www.newbernfumc.org Phone (731) 627-3386 Fax (731) 627-2261 ` A New Year ----- a "No one can go back and start a new beginning, but anyone can start today and make a new ending" (Author Unknown). Think about that statement. The conclusion is that we don't start over; but we begin again right where we are, making things better in our lives. If we were to make a New Year resolution, it could be to have a deeper commitment, a deeper love, and a deeper worship for the Lord. He wants our undivided attention in spite of the distractions and temptations that lie waiting around the corner. He has to be our main focus. How we will end this year will be determined by how we start it. Do you want a new ending this year? How do you want the ending of your life? If you're not a Christian, please know that this could be the best New Year of your life. Your life can be filled with hope and peace. To know what the ending will be is an extra bonus. Why should every year be the same as the one before with nothing really changing? After all, the New Year resolutions may or may not get accomplished. If you are a Christian and you feel stagnate in your relationship with the Lord, then now is the time to rekindle the love affair with Him. If we are to be Jesus' disciples, it is not necessary that we become instantly perfect. What is necessary is that we abide in Jesus' presence. "I am the vine, you are the branches. Whoever remains in me and I in him will bear much fruit, because without me you can do nothing" (John 15:5) Jesus calls us to Himself. "After you have suffered for a little while, the God of all grace, who called you by the Messiah Jesus to his eternal glory, will restore you, establish you, strengthen you, and support you." (1 Peter 5:10) The real ending in our life will be when Jesus says well done my good and faithful servant. That statement will be for someone who took the time to get to know Him, love Him, and that obediently followed Him. OOn The UMW's Christmas party was held on Tuesday, December 11 th at the home of Barbara & R.C. Owen. We appreciate them opening their home to us for the party. Everyone enjoyed good food, fun and fellowship. The next UMW meeting will be on Monday, January 21 st @ 1:30 pm. A little humor ---------- A Romantic New Year's Day Story A married couple had been out shopping for most of the day. Suddenly the wife realized that her husband had "disappeared". Somewhat irate she called her husband's mobile and demanded, 'Where are you?' Husband: 'Darling, do you remember that little jewelry shop where you saw that beautiful diamond necklace and totally fell in love with it but I didn't have the money at that time and I said "Darling it'll be yours one day." Wife, tremulously, 'Yes, I do remember that my love.' Husband, 'Well I'm in the Pub next to that shop.' On Sunday, December 9 th, the A.C.T.S. Youth Group enjoyed a meal at McDonalds followed by snacks and a trip to the movie theater to see "The Grinch". A good time was enjoyed by all. Thank you to Amy Davis, Amy Jane Uitendaal, Jane Lamb and Alma Ruth Michael for chaperoning and providing the transportation. We want to express our appreciation and thanks to Amber Sharp and her team for their time and spiritual guidance provided to these children throughout the year, and also to the congregation for the financial support for our youth that helps to make these activities possible. Our children bring so much joy to our lives on a daily basis. It makes our hearts smile to see them in church each Sunday. A big THANK YOU to all of our Acolytes that carry the "Light of Christ" for us each Sunday throughout the year.
