The Rebus Story Rhymes are also provided again with actions (below the two Talk Times), in case you want to do it that way. Doubting Thomas / Ascension Intro, Preschool Talk Time The Lesson is the Doubting Thomas / Ascension Rebus Story pages 1-8. Do the Intro before the Rebus Story, and the Talk Time after the story. The Rebus Story with Actions is also included. Intro for Doubting Thomas / Ascension Rebus Story (Use this intro if you want to review the death, burial and resurrection of stories. Use Intro 2 if you want to start on page that begins with a short intro of death, burial and resurrection, then teaches the stories of the Road to Emmaus, and appearing to the Disciples at the house twice and his Ascension). We have a fun story today that you can help me tell! You won t have to know how to read. You just look at the pictures and tell me what the pictures are. First let s take a look at the pictures. (Go through the pictures, pointing at each one and ask children what it is). Tell them the correct word for this story, for each picture). First, we ll hear the parts about how died and rose again! Then we ll see how appeared to many people after he was alive again! Are you ready? Transition: Did you like that story? It s a true story! It really happened! And will really come back! Let s pray, then we ll have snack and then we ll talk about the story! Preschool Talk Time We learned that didn t stay in the tomb! After he died and was buried, by the power of God, he arose to life again! He walked and talked, and appeared to different people many times! He even took the time to show his friends the cuts that the nails had made on his hands and feet so that they would know that it really was him. But Thomas wasn t there. So, went to the house again when Thomas was there, so he could see his hands and feet, and touch the wound in his side! loved Thomas, and he knew Thomas didn t believe yet, so he showed special attention to Thomas. Did you know that loves each one of us just like he loved Thomas? loves everyone! He loves and and... (Insert in the blank, the name of each child and adult in the room). Did you know that wants you to believe too! Here s what our Bible says in the Book of John. (Read John 20:31). God made sure those true stories were written down so you and I would know what happened. He wants each of us to believe too! When Thomas touched side, and saw his hands and feet for himself, he did believe. Then he knew that it was really the same who had died and rose again! Do you remember what Thomas said after he touched side? (Let children answer). Yes. Thomas said, My Lord and my God! Did you know that the word God means the one who is most important to you; the one who rules over you. And the word Lord means the one you listen to and obey, or the one you follow. Thomas was telling everyone that now he would follow and obey from now on. He was saying that he loved more than anyone else, and he would follow. Now he would let be his leader! Did you know that wants to be your Lord too. He wants to be your leader too, and the one you listen to? Then we learned how went back to heaven. He went up higher and higher until he disappeared into the clouds! (Point to cloud decorations). That s where God and the angels live! It s the happy place where promises to wipe away all tears! But before went up to heaven, he made his friends a promise. Do you remember what that promise was? (Let children answer). Yes. promised his friends that some day he would come back again! And, one day will come back to gather together all the people who trusted in him. Do you know what gather means? (Mother hen, chick stickers). I ll show you: It s like when a storm comes, and a mother hen brings all of her baby chicks under her wing to protect them. (Put chicks under wing). See how happy and safe they look under her wing? When comes back, he will gather all those who trust in him! Then all of the people who put their trust in will live with him in heaven some day! What a happy time that will be for everyone who puts their trust in the Lord and has their sins washed away!
