Sometimes, The Whole World Seems to be Going Crazy!

Bad News

What can we do when it seems that our very society is being destroyed?

When the Foundations are Being Destroyed, What Can the Righteous Do?

Psalm 11

Psalm 11 - For the director of music. Of David. 1) In the LORD I take refuge. How can you say to my soul, Flee like a bird to your mountain. 2) For look, the wicked bend the bow; they fitted their arrow to the string, to shoot in the dark at the upright in heart. 3) If the foundations are destroyed, what can the righteous do?

4) The LORD is in His holy temple; the LORD s throne is in heaven. His eyes see, His eyelids test the children of man; 5) The LORD tests the righteous, but His soul hates the wicked and the one who loves violence. 6) Let Him rain coals on the wicked; fire and sulfur and a scorching wind shall be the portion of their cup. 7) For the LORD is righteous, He loves righteous deeds; the upright shall behold His face.

Psalm 11 A Reminder That Our God Is Sovereign

If the foundations are destroyed, what can the righteous do?

Flee like a bird to the mountains?

In the Lord I take refuge

David Remembered Where God Sits Psalm 11:4 The LORD is in His holy temple; the LORD s throne is in heaven.

Psalm 9:7-10 But the Lord sits enthroned forever; He has established His throne for justice, and He judges the world with righteousness; He judges the peoples with uprightness. The Lord is a stronghold for the oppressed, a strong-hold in times of trouble. And those who know Your name, put their trust in You, for You, O Lord, have not forsaken those who seek You.

David Remembered Where God Sits The LORD is in His holy temple; the LORD s throne is in heaven.

David Remembered Where God Sits The LORD is in His holy temple; the LORD s throne is in heaven. Jesus said, No one comes to the Father, except through Me.

Psalm 18:1-6 I love you, O Lord, my strength. The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer, my God, my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold. I call upon the Lord, who is worthy to be praised, and I am saved from my enemies. The cords of death encompassed me; the torrents of destruction assailed me; the cords of Sheol entangled me; the snares of death confronted me. In my distress I called upon the Lord; to my God I cried for help. From his temple he heard my voice, and my cry to him reached his ears.

David Remembered Where God Sits The LORD is in His holy temple; the LORD s throne is in heaven.

David Remembered What God Sees (4b-5)... His eyes see, His eyelids test the children of man; The LORD tests the righteous, but His soul hates the wicked and the one who loves violence. (ESV) (4b-5)... He observes the sons of men; His eyes examine them. The LORD examines the righteous, but the wicked and those who love violence His soul hates. (NASB)

James 1:2-3 Count it all joy my brethren when you fall into divers temptations. Count it joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness.

David Remembered What God Sees 4b-5... His eyes see, His eyelids test the children of man; The LORD tests the righteous, but His soul hates the wicked and the one who loves violence. Violence = hamas

God Sees Everyone and Everything, All the Time!

David Remembered What God Sees 4b-5 His eyes see, His eyelids test the children of man; The LORD tests the righteous, but His soul hates the wicked and the one who loves violence.

David Remembered What God Sends 6-7 Let Him rain coals on the wicked; fire and sulfur and a scorching wind shall be the portion of their cup. For the LORD is righteous, He loves righteous deeds; the upright shall behold His face. (Let Him rain coals = He will rain fiery coals)

David Remembered What God Sends 6 On the wicked He will rain fiery coals and burning sulfur; a scorching wind will be their lot. Area around the Dead Sea previously home to Sodom and Gomorrah

Colossians 3:23-24 Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.

When Christ rose from the dead and ascended into heaven, the trajectory of human existence went with Him. The gospel tells us that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us, and that He is going to prepare a place for us where the brokenness of this world cannot kill and where tears will be wiped away forever.... Our hope is not in this life, but in life beyond the grave! Ed Stetzer

What do we do when the foundations are being destroyed? We Remember Our God! For the LORD is righteous. He loves righteous deeds; the upright shall behold His face.

Our Confidence is in the Lord Jesus Christ

Matthew 11:28-29 Jesus said, Come to Me all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you, and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.

When the Foundations are Being Destroyed, What Can the Righteous Do? Safety Glass?

Romans 8:28 And we know that for those who love God, all things work together for good, for those who are called according to His purpose.

Romans 8:31 & 35 If God is for us, who can be against us? He who did not spare His own Son but gave Him up for us all, how will He not also with Him graciously give us all things? Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword?

Romans 8:37 No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loves us. For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord!

When the foundations are being destroyed, what can the righteous do? Since I know that God is in control of all things, I will trust Him in all the things of life. (God s Sovereignty)

All I Need to Know Mark Barninger There will be trouble, there will be stains, There will be tear drops upon the pain, But I know who is in full control. All the diseases, all of the stings, All of the madness that evil brings, Still I know who is in full control. That is all I need, need to know right now, right now. That is all I need, need to know right now. Come all you people, bow to your knees, Yield to your maker, that is the plea, Cause I know who is in full control.

Psalm 11: A Reminder that our God is Sovereign Either God is in control of all things, or He is not in control at all. I believe He is in control of all things, and that settles it. A BFC Pastor, 2016
