And Edith With Them Too Luke 15:1-10 1-13-13 AM
Once Upon a Time there were two families who lived next door to each other. The first family went to church The second family had nothing to do with God
Luke 15 A favorite chapter for most Bible readers. Contains the triune parables of The Lost Coin, The Lost Sheep, and the Lost Son (AKA- The Prodigal Son). Most folks love these stories. It seems explaining God s great desire for ALL the lost to be saved in story form, does make the whole idea of seeking and saving the lost friendlier to our ears.
A Mixed Audience Tax Collectors/Sinner Were coming near Him to listen to Him. (Lk. 15:1) These folks had ears to hear what the Savior was teaching (Lk. 14:35) Pharisees/Scribes Were grumbling, and saying things such as This man receiveth sinners and eateth with them as well. These men wouldn t hear Jesus.
An Extraordinary Message: Our God goes to great efforts to seek Lost Sinners and He and His angels greatly rejoice when even ONE comes to repentance.
Implied as Well If that is what our God is like, If that s the way He sees the world, Than that is what we should be like, [as His people], And that is the way that we should see our world.
Man s Condition Men w/o Christ s redemption are LOST. They are not just a little lost, they are Completely Lost. Even if they are great guys, even if they do tons of good deeds, even if they are friends of ours or family members. LOST IS LOST. And they need to be FOUND!
LOST LOST a sad and empty word. It carries with it a sense of helplessness and even desperation. Attach it to an important possession and it is more desperate. Attach it to a person and it spells real tragedy.
Little Lost Girl NBC News Jan. 9, 2013: LINDEN BONES NOT MICHAELA GARECHT Mrs. Garecht- Yes, there is a degree of disappointment that the answer as to what happened to Michaela has eluded us once again -- and also the feeling of frustration about the possibility of ever, ever having the answers.
Eph. 2:12 You were at that time separate from Christ, excluded from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers to the covenants of promise, having no hope and without God in the world. In a word=
The Lost Sheep A lone lamb in the desert had no protection and it would be only be a matter of time before the coyotes or other predators would attack and kill it. This lost sheep, is just a representation of a lost sinner.
A Relationship (with His Sheep) My God cares for ALL of His creation with a LOVE like that of this Shepherd. He sent Jesus to die for us. The Lost Sheep was helpless alone. But because our Lord took the initiative; to send Jesus, we need not die lost.
Romans 5:8 God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. My Bible says that God sent Christ to die for our sins while we were lost, while we were wandering from the fold.
The Lost Coin A large part of her dowry. Part of her wedding ensemble. Her future was at stake. Her one consuming focus was finding the lost coin, no matter how much effort it took.
The Consequences of Failure In the case of one s salvation, the cost of NOT finding them is so much greater: He who has believed and has been baptized shall be saved; but he who has disbelieved shall be condemned. (Mark 16:16) Luke 13:5 - "I tell you, no, but unless you repent, you will all likewise perish."
The Response of God God did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, (Rom. 8:32). Jesus did not selfishly cling to the glory and beauty and comfort of heaven, but He laid aside His rights to give His life a ransom for many, (Mark 10:45). He willingly endured the abuse of arrogant men to secure the salvation of His sheep.
A Time of Rejoicing Luke 15:7 & 15:10 When the shepherd found the lost sheep When the young woman found her lost coin Rather than avoiding sinners, we should be pursuing them, not to run with them in their sins, but to rescue them from this evil world. Rather than judging the lost, we should be seeking the lost, even as our Savior did.
A Time of Rejoicing Luke 15:7 & 15:10 If God rejoices when just one sinner repents, shouldn t that also be our joy as well? My God greatly rejoices when a single sinner repents; so should we.
Just in Vallejo There are thousands of people out there, in this city alone, who, if they died today, would die lost. How should we be addressing their need?
