OLD TESTAMENT READING Isaiah 9:3-7 (NKJV) The Government of the Promised Son 3 You have multiplied the nation And increased its joy; They rejoice before You According to the joy of harvest, As men rejoice when they divide the spoil. 4 For You have broken the yoke of his burden And the staff of his shoulder, The rod of his oppressor, As in the day of Midian. 5 For every warrior s sandal from the noisy battle, And garments rolled in blood, Will be used for burning and fuel of fire. 6 For unto us a Child is born, Unto us a Son is given; And the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. 7 Of the increase of His government and peace There will be no end, Upon the throne of David and over His kingdom, To order it and establish it with judgment and justice From that time forward, even forever. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this. LEADER: This is the Word of God CONGREGATION: Thanks Be Unto God 4
NEW TESTAMENT READING Luke 2:1-7 (NKJV) LEADER: And it came to pass in those days that a decree went out from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be registered. This census first took place while Quirinius was governing Syria. CONG: So all went to be registered, everyone to his own city. Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and lineage of David, LEADER: to be registered with Mary, his betrothed wife, who was with child. So it was, that while they were there, the days were completed for her to be delivered. ALL: And she brought forth her firstborn Son, and wrapped Him in swaddling cloths, and laid Him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn. 5
Hark! The Herald Angels (1) Hark! The herald angels sing, Glory to the newborn King; Peace on earth, and mercy mild; God and sinners reconciled. Joyful, all ye nations, rise, Join the triumph of the skies; With th angelic hosts proclaim, Christ is born in Bethlehem. Hark! The herald angels sing, Glory to the newborn King. (2) Christ, by highest heav n adored; Christ, the everlasting Lord: Late in time behold Him come, Off-spring of a virgin s womb. Veiled in flesh the God-head see, Hail th incarnate Deity! Pleased as man with men t appear, Jesus our Immanuel here. Hark! The herald angels sing, Glory to the newborn King. (3) Hail the heav n-born Prince of Peace! Hail the Sun of righteousness! Light and life to all He brings, Risen with healing in His wings: Mild He lays His glory by, Born that man no more may die; Born to raise the sons of earth; Born to give them second birth. Hark! The herald angels sing, Glory to the newborn King. (4) Come, Desire of nations, come! Fix in us Thy humble home: Rise, the woman s conquering seed, Bruise in us the serpent s head; Adam s likeness now efface, Stamp Thine image in its place: Second Adam from above, Re-in-state us in Thy love. Hark! The herald angels sing, Glory to the newborn King. 6
