First eter connects the wy God sved Noh s fmily in the flood with the wy God sves us through the wter of bptism. The bptisml covennt is mde with us individully, but the new life we re given in bptism is for the ske of the whole world. SECOND READING Sved through wter 1 eter 3:18 22 As God cted through Christ s suffering nd deth to bring us to God, so God cts through bptism to sve us from sinful existence. This spiritul clensing mrks our new life in Christ. Christ lso suffered for sins once for ll, the righteous for the unrighteous, in order to bring you to God. He ws put to deth in the flesh, but mde live in the spirit, 19 in which lso he went nd mde proclmtion to the spirits in prison, 20 who in former times did not obey, when God wited ptiently in the dys of Noh, during the building of the rk, in which few, tht is, eight persons, were sved through wter. 21 And bptism, which this prefigured, now sves you not s removl of dirt from the body, but s n ppel to God for good conscience, through the resurrection of Jesus Christ, 22 who hs gone into heven nd is t the right hnd of God, with ngels, uthorities, nd powers mde subject to him. The word of the Lord. Thnks be to God. LENTEN GOSEL ACCLAMATION The ssembly welcomes the gospel, singing the TRISHAGION before nd fter the choir sings the verse. & # # # 4 4 œ œ œ œ œ œ œ œ œ œ œ 4& # # # Ho - ly God, Ho -ly nd might -y, Ho - ly nd im - œ œ œ œ œ œ w mor - tl, hve mer - cy on us. lll One does not live by bred lone, but by every word tht comes from the mouth of God. The ssembly repets the TRISHAGION. GOSEL The tempttion of Jesus Mrk 1:9 15 The holy gospel ccording to Mrk. Glory to you, O Lord. The Spirit tht comes upon Jesus t his bptism sustins him when he is tested by Stn so tht he might proclim the good news of God s reign. Jesus cme from Nzreth of Glilee nd ws bptized by John in the Jordn. 10 And just s he ws coming up out of the wter, he sw the hevens torn prt nd the Spirit descending like dove on him. 11 And voice cme from heven, You re my Son, the Beloved; with you I m well plesed. 12 And the Spirit immeditely drove him out into the wilderness. 13 He ws in the wilderness forty dys, tempted by Stn; nd he ws with the wild bests; nd the ngels wited on him. 14 Now fter John ws rrested, Jesus cme to Glilee, procliming the good news of God, 15 nd sying, The time is fulfilled, nd the kingdom of God hs come ner, repent, nd believe in the good news. The gospel of the Lord. rise to you, O Christ.
