We currently receive money from 3 different banks, and get it within a day or two after our members send it. Join the in-crowd; try this simple method of electronic giving! A Good Time Was Had by All! Back 2 School Lock-In News To celebrate the start of the school year, there will be a Back 2 School Lock-In for the 2nd and 3rd Year Confirmation groups from Friday, September 25 to Saturday, September 26. Please RSVP by Sunday, September 20 by either filling out one of the signup sheets which will be passed around during both worship services or by emailing Chris Hicks at chrishicks@trinityfairview.com. For more details, please stop by the Confirmation bulletin board in the hallway at the back of the church or contact Chris. Readings for Sunday, September 27 First Reading: Numbers 11:4-6, 10-16, 24-29 Psalm: Psalm Psalm 19:7-14 Second Reading: James 15:13-20 Gospel: Mark 9:38-50

Getting it Backwards From the Desk of Nina Wason, Chris Ed Director No doubt you have been involved in a lively conversation with colleagues around the water cooler talking about the latest increase in workload without a commensurate raise in pay, or the new, crazy project you have just been assigned, or the fast-approaching deadline you know you can t meet, when the boss suddenly appears. There s that nanosecond of terrified, awkward silence, mercifully saved by someone jumping in with, So how bout those Phillies? If you ve been there, you can totally appreciate the disciples dilemma when Jesus saunters into their conversation about who among them is the better disciple (Mark 9: 30-37). Imagine the bragging, Well, when he told us to gather the leftovers at that big picnic I filled more baskets than the rest of you, says James Yeah, but then you proceeded to eat half of what was in them, remarks Judas. Hey, shouts Peter, Don t you remember that I was the first one to try walking on water? And started sinking in 10 seconds! adds his helpful brother, Andrew. John quietly offers, You all know I m his favorite And then Jesus comes around the corner and asks, Hey guys, what are you all talking about? Um. Not the Phillies. I can imagine Jesus rolling his eyes as he walks into that mess. He has to sit down and try once again to get through to these thick-headed followers. Time is running a little short here in Mark s gospel: tension is mounting, death keeps entering the conversation, Jerusalem is just down the road. When are these guys going to understand that the kingdom of God is nothing like the world they know? The greatest disciple? Should look like a slave. The seat of honor? Will be given to the one who welcomes those with no honor. What s first is last, and what is last is first. The world is upside down. Learning Jesus perspective is a life-long process. One of our Loft leaders, Lorena Carlson, pointed out to me the other day that an art class exercise in developing perspective is to take a famous drawing, turn it upside down, and try to replicate the drawing from that point of view, try seeing just the lines and shadows.just one change, will transform your whole approach. We will be giving that and other reversals a try in the Loft this week. Hope to see you there.

Helping Hands Dinner Benefit Trinity's very own 2nd Annual Helping Hands Dinner Benefit will be Friday evening, November 13 in the Ballroom at Chadwick's of Shannondell. We look forward to celebrating this annual event with each of you while raising money to benefit our congregation families in need. Last year $13,000 was raised and delivered to two worthy families. We are so excited to continue giving! Ticket sales will begin September 13 each Sunday after both masses in the Narthex. Ticket prices remain $25pp in September and $30pp in October. We need your help! At this year's benefit you will once again have the opportunity to win auction items, raffle baskets, and 50/50 money! We welcome any donation to the auction and raffle baskets! Any goods or service commitment, any value, is greatly appreciated for the auction! Large ticket items will be included in the live auction while more reasonable items will be won through silent auction. We hope to see everything from vacations to event tickets, gift certificates, jewelry, babysitting hours, landscaping services, etc...
