LIVE FREE UPDATE Advent Lutheran exists as evidence of God s generous love known to us in Jesus Christ. Our Live Free emphasis has helped us see the importance of setting our hopes on God, living richly in a deeper sense. This way of living is a priceless treasure and also the solid foundation upon which we can build our lives. To date, our personal commitments to the General Fund (Mission and Ministry) have reached $230,602 with 55 households pledging and $76,034 to the Mortgage Fund with 43 pledges. Through thoughtful stewardship by our congregation, the mortgage will be paid off in 2021. If you give through Simply Giving, the Stewardship Team and Financial Secretary still need your pledges in order to plan for 2017. You may either complete your pledge card(s) and place them in the offering plates, drop them off at the office, or email our Financial Secretary, Greg Katterhagen, at rfwzrd@live.com. Thank you to each and every person and household who have made commitments of giving to Advent in 2017. If you haven t yet made a commitment of giving, we invite you to do so. General Fund commitment cards are white and Mortgage Fund commitment cards are green. Both are on the Resource Table in the gathering area. You may put completed cards in the offering plate or turn them in to the church office. In Christian fellowship, Your Advent Stewardship Team 4

DID YOU KNOW? From Your Stewardship Committee It s been about six years since Advent Lutheran s Columbarium was attached to the west wall of the sanctuary near the organ. The Columbarium Committee was formed in 2008 and it was its appeal to the church council and at one or more congregational meetings that secured the authority to purchase the columbarium. There are 20 niches in the cross design, 19 of which have been purchased. An expansion of the columbarium was installed in June 2016. It is a vertical column containing 16 niches that sits next to the cross. None of the niches in the expansion column have been purchased yet. To view which niches are still available and to read the agreement that must be signed please visit the church office. There is a book that contains an application, the agreement and a diagram of the Columbarium. You may also contact Jim and Joyce Carr at 408-779-2727 or Dick and Cheryl Franzen at 408-779-0854. Today we celebrate the ministry of the Columbarium Committee which currently is made up of Jim and Joyce Carr, Dick and Cheryl Franzen and the current Operations Manager at Advent, Carrie Merrell. George Crowe, Craig Simberg and Ed Merrell have also been trained in the placing of the ashes in the niche. You are invited to take the communion elements to the altar for recognition of your stewardship at Advent and to receive a blessing from Pastor Warner. Your Gifts and Participation Make a Difference! 8
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY Thanksgiving Quotes by National Leaders We have been the recipients of the choicest bounties of Heaven; we have been preserved these many years in peace and prosperity; we have grown in numbers, wealth, and power as no other nation has ever grown. ~ Abraham Lincoln, at Thanksgiving time during the Civil War, 1863 Let us remember that, as much has been given us, much will be expected from us, and that true homage comes from the heart as well as from the lips, and shows itself in deeds. ~ Theodore Roosevelt, 1901 As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter words, but to live by them. ~ John Fitzgerald Kennedy CHRISTMAS AT ADVENT Vivaldi s Gloria - Sunday, December 18, at 8:00 and 10:45 AM Blue Christmas - Monday, December 19, 7:30 PM Christmas Eve Family Service - Saturday, December 24, 7:00 PM Christmas Day Worship - Sunday, December 25, 10:45 AM New Year s Day Worship - Sunday, January 1, 10:45 AM 9
