ST. TERESA of AVILA STUDENT CENTER PAGE 2 219-464-4040 Fr. Chris Corner Dear friends in the Lord, Several weeks ago I announced that we will have three seminarians living on site this summer and will be working and ministering here in our community. Robert Ross, David Martinez, and Ivan Alatorre will be moving in this week and will begin ministry right away. Once again, I would like to encourage you to welcome them with open arms, invite them out for coffee, have them over for dinner, etc The whole purpose of their time here is to get to know you and have you get to know them. They will also be assisting in all the different ministries that we have here including youth and young adult ministry, Vacation Bible School, high school mission trip, and all sorts of other things. We are very excited to have them with us. I am also very excited to announce that we have sixteen students who will be receiving their First Holy Communion next weekend. They have already celebrated their First Reconciliation and for the past two months have been preparing to receive the Eucharist. We will celebrate our First Communion Mass on Sunday, June 3 at 11:00 AM. I want to encourage you to pray for these students. This is a big moment in their lives as they receive Jesus for the first time in the Eucharist. I can t even begin to tell you how excited they are and the joy that is just beaming from their faces. May that love for the Eucharist continue to shine in their lives. Faithfully Yours in the Lord, Fr. As individuals we are called to be good and generous stewards with God s manifold gifts. Tithing is the means whereby we have the opportunity to give thanks to God; with that in mind, the community of St. Teresa of Avila tithes $450 weekly. This week we will donate to The American Legion Soldier s Wish Stewardship Commission God s Hands in Action St. Teresa s is a generous community and as such, the Stewardship Commission has formed a God s Hands in Action: Weekly Tithing Committee. To be more intentional in our giving, this group will select organizations that meet the following criteria: Follow the teaching of the Catholic Church Have a local/community connection About five years ago we changed our tithing amount to $450 weekly and we will continue to donate that amount to each organization. If there is an organization that is close to your heart and that meets the guidelines or you are interested in serving on the committee, please contact the committee at saintt.godshands@gmail.com. Soldier's Wish was designed to identify the unmet needs of U.S. military personnel, veterans and their families, and provide the necessary resources to meet those needs. The non-profit organization is saluting and serving our nation's heroes this summer by traveling to seven special events throughout the country with The American Legion and the HISTORY Channel to grant wishes and educate Americans about the needs of veterans and service members. We are now accepting Mass Intentions 2018 & 2019 Liturgy and Worship If you are interested in offering a Mass for someone, here is the information needed: 1. Name of person for whom the Mass is intended. 2. Name of person/contact info who is offering the Mass. 3. A stipend of $10 per Mass. 4. Please include any specific dates as well as a second and/or third choice. We will do the best we can to accommodate your request, but know that sometimes that is not possible. 5. Send your request to the office. This information can be put in an envelope labeled MASS INTENTIONS and placed in the collection basket, mail to or dropped off at the office. What does it mean to have a Mass "offered" for someone? An individual may ask a priest to offer a Mass for several reasons: for example, in thanksgiving, for the intentions of another person (such as on a birthday), or, as is most common, for the repose of the soul of someone who has died.
