Happy 48th! Israel is celebrating on Sunday the 48th anniversary of the reunification of Jerusalem, its eternal capital. The Old City was liberated during the Six Day War in 1967, after 19 years of Jordanian occupation. After Israel declared its independence in 1948, it was attacked by neighboring Arab countries, including Jordan from the east, which captured the eastern part of Jerusalem, including the Old City. The Jewish residents were forced out, half of the Old City s 58 synagogues were demolished, and the Jewish cemetery on the Mount of Olives was plundered for its tombstones, which were used as paving stones and building materials. On June 7, 1967, one day into the Six Day War, Israeli forces liberated the Old City of Jerusalem and reunified the city. Then- Defense Minister Moshe Dayan declared: This morning, the Israel Defense Forces liberated Jerusalem. We have united Jerusalem, the divided capital of Israel. We have returned to the holiest of our holy places, never to part from it again.
PMW Two State Solution? The Palestinian Authority and Fatah continue to deny the existence of Israel, presenting towns, villages and sites all over Israel as "Palestinian" and "occupied." In the terminology of the PA's National Security Forces, Mount Tabor is situated in "occupied Nazareth" [Facebook, PA National Security Forces, March 10, 2015] and the hippodrome in Caesarea is in "Palestine" [Facebook, Feb. 8, 2015].
Hezbollah Hides 100,000 Rockets Under Human Shields The IDF has declassified a report saying that the terrorist organization Hezbollah has an arsenal of 100,000 rockets and missiles intended for attacking Israel. The missiles were provided by the Syrian and Iranian governments and are concealed in Shiite villages in southern Lebanon, often beneath civilian infrastructure. Hezbollah is legally required to disarm under both UN Resolution 1701 and the Taif Agreement. The report indicates that Hezbollah is capable of hitting anywhere inside of Israel. Although most of their arsenal consists of short-range rockets, Hezbollah possesses several thousands of missiles capable of reaching Tel Aviv and hundreds with a range covering the entire country.
Abbas - Angel of Peace Pope Francis praised Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas as an angel of peace during a meeting at the Vatican. Francis made the compliment Saturday during the traditional exchange of gifts at the end of an official audience in the Apostolic Palace. He presented Abbas with a medallion and explained that it represented the angel of peace destroying the bad spirit of war. The news of the treaty immediately drew ire from Israel. Israel heard with disappointment the decision of the Holy See to agree a final formulation of an agreement with the Palestinians including the use of the term Palestinian State, said an Israeli foreign ministry official.
Facebook Posts Can Kill! Fatah Leader Sent to Jail for Incitement In a precedential ruling on Tuesday, Judge Eitan Kornhauser sentenced Omar Shalabi, 44, from Jerusalem, to a nine-month prison term. Shalabi was found guilty of one count of incitement to terrorism and violence, and two counts of supporting a terror organization. Shalabi posted his calls to violence and support of terrorists during last summer s abduction and murder of the three Israeli teenagers, Operation Protective Edge in Gaza and large-scale rioting and murders in Jerusalem. [Arab] Children of Jerusalem! Anger and carry on the path of desperation and discord which will rage and purify Jerusalem and Al Aqsa from the filth of Jewish bastards Shalabi wrote on his Facebook page. In another post, Shalabi condemned the Israeli security forces for eliminating Muatez Hijazi, a terrorist who attempted to assassinate Rabbi Yehuda Glick.
1484 Jews Disgraced Jewish groups were infuriated by a Greek town s demand that the Star of David to be removed from a new Holocaust memorial or they will not permit its display. As an Orthodox Christian, I feel deeply insulted by this issue, because it would be as if someone asked us to erase or modify for aesthetic reasons the symbol of the cross on the tombs of our grandfathers executed by the Germans, the statement quoted Giorgos Kalantzis as saying.
It s All About the Water A ranking Iranian political figure, Issa Kalantari, recently warned that past mistakes leave Iran with water supplies so insufficient that up to 70 percent, or 55 million out of 78 million Iranians, would be forced to abandon their native country for parts unknown. Many facts buttress Kalantari's apocalyptic prediction: Lake Urmia, the Middle East's largest lake, has lost 95 percent of its water since 1996, going from 31 billion cubic meters to 1.5 billion.
Nor are Iranians alone in peril; many others in the arid Middle East may also be forced into unwanted, desperate exile. With a unique, magnificent exception, much of the Middle East is running out of water due to such maladies as population growth, short-sighted dictators, distorted economic incentives, and infrastructure-destroying warfare. Egypt, Gaza, Yemen, Syria, Iraq. Persian Gulf, Pakistan
