It has been said that the first casualty of war is truth. That is why it is important for Christians to sort out the facts from the fiction being reported in the news media concerning the ongoing war between Israel and the so-called Palestinians. The Palestinians seems to have won the media war by using international news broadcasts as a vehicle of propaganda against the nation of Israel. They have turned themselves from the aggressors to the victims in the eyes of the world. The ability to manipulate the news media in this way did not happen overnight, but has been practiced methodically over many long years against Israel. Hitler, in his book Mein Kempf said, If you tell a lie long enough, loud enough and often enough, the people will believe it. It is sometimes called The Big Lie. Concerning Israel and the Palestinians, there are twelve Big Lies that have been repeated for a long time, loudly and often. The Big Lie #1 The Palestinians have held the land known as Palestine since the seventh century. The only Arab domination of Palestine since its conquest in 635AD lasted no more than 22 years. History records that prior to the return of the Jews to Israel, the area, re-named Palestine by Israel s enemies in 135 AD, was desolate. A Swiss clergyman, Felix Bovet traveling in the Holy Land during the 1860 s testified to its barrenness. "The Christians who conquered the Holy Land did not know how to preserve it The Arabs who took it from them lost it to the Ottomans, who still rule it, officially. They turned it into a wilderness where they do not dare step without fear. The Arabs themselves, who are its inhabitants, cannot be considered but temporary residents... G-d delivered Palestine into the hands of many peoples. But He did not allow any of them to set down roots in it. No doubt, [H] e is saving it for His people Israel." Mark Twain also traveled to Israel in the 1860 s. His impression of the Land confirms that of Bovet s. (All emphasis author s) A desolation is here that not even imagination can grace with the pomp of life and action We never saw a human being on the whole route [as we] pressed on toward Jerusalem It is a hopeless, dreary, heartbroken land Palestine sits in sackcloth and ashes 1 / 6

During the 19th and early 20th centuries, the 20,000-plus new immigrants to Israel were greeted by this discouraging sight a barren wasteland, blighted by swamps and disease. Despite these historical facts, the late Palestinian Leader, [the Egyptian] Yasser Arafat s speech to the United Nations in 1974 presented a totally different, conflicting history of Palestine when he declared: Palestine was a verdant area inhabited by an Arab people dynamically enriching its indigenous culture. This obvious fabrication, having been repeated endlessly like a slogan, has now been accepted as unquestionable truth by the Arab Palestinians and, indeed, by much of the world, who are largely ignorant of the actual history of the Middle East. This revisionist history neglects to mention the lives lost by early Jewish settlers in draining the disease-ridden swamps and the harrowing job of preparing the desolate wastelands for agriculture. More importantly, this pseudo-history does not mention that the land settled by the Jewish people before WWI was purchased from the Ottoman Empire s landowners, and after WWI, all the land that the Jews cleared and developed was purchased from the supposed Syrian or Arab owners. The Jewish National Fund, private individuals such as Sir Moses Montefiore and Baron Benjamin de Rothschild, as well as organizations and later the State of Israel were largely responsible for accomplishing land purchases that resulted in the redemption of the wastelands of former Israel. The Big Lie #2 The Arabs living in area of Palestine have always been known as Palestinians. With the return of the Jews and the budding agriculture and economy in former Israel, came an influx of Arabs seeking jobs from all the surrounding lands. Arabs/Muslims came, built houses, and worked in the vicinity of the Jewish settlements. This is confirmed by the fact that there were some 50 different languages spoken among the Arab population in pre-1948 Palestine. Only in very recent history, since 1967, have the Arabs in Israel begun to call themselves Palestinians. Joan Peters, a former White House consultant on the Middle East, in her award-winning book, F rom Time Immemorial, painstaking researched the history of the Holy Land s population. She concluded that the Arabs took the Jews land rather than the opposite. She found that most of the so-called Palestinians arrived from many other countries within the last 80 years, whereas, Israel has maintained a 2 / 6

continual presence in the Land for 3000 years. The Big Lie #3 - The Palestinians were left with 47%of the land they originally held and now they have a mere 19%. Contrary to what has been said, it was the State of Israel that was left with only a sliver of land from the original Palestinian Mandate to create a Jewish homeland, not the so-called Palestinians. The land captured from the Ottoman Turks during WWI was partitioned into the newly formed Arab/Muslim nations of Syria, Iraq, Lebanon, Iran, and Saudi Arabia. Then, in 1922, when King Abdullah was forced out of Saudi Arabia, England and France portioned off 78% of the Palestinian Mandate intended for the Jews and formed the country of Trans-Jordan, today Jordan. The Big Lie #4 Before the Israeli occupation of 1967, terrorism did not exist. Before Israel became a State, in 1947, Arab statesmen declared their resolve to destroy Israel by all possible means. The Arab League made public its program for the forcible prevention of the establishment of a Jewish State. Dr. Hussein Halide of the Palestine Higher Committee called for a "holy war to be waged on the Jews." From the 1920s through the 1940s, long before the 1967 war, the Arabs rioted, attacked Jewish settlements, and randomly murdered scores of Palestinian Jews. The Big Lie #5 Israel invaded the West Bank in 1967 and took Palestinian lands. The pseudo-history of the Middle East alleges that Israel was the perpetrator of the Six-Day War, even though weeks before Israel carried out a pre-emptive strike against her enemies, President Gamal Abdel Nasser of Egypt moved 100,000 troops, including more than 1,000 tanks, to Israel s border with Nassar boldly proclaiming, Our basic objective will be the destruction of Israel. At the same time, Syrian troops amassed along the Golan Heights, while Jordan, Syria, and Iraq covenanted to help Egypt. Israel became surrounded by 250,000 enemy soldiers, 2000 tanks, and 700 jet fighters. Although it was hardly a proportional war, the tiny nation being out-numbered in soldiers (100 to 1), and in equipment (1000 to 1), Israel took Judea and Samaria [the West Bank], the whole Sinai Peninsula, the Golan Heights, and the Gaza Strip in only six days. The Big Lie #6 Israel uses disproportionate force against the Palestinians. 3 / 6

The object of warfare is to win, not to play tit-for-tat with the enemy that is attacking you. Israel s past victories were not due to superior weaponry but due to their having a superior G-d. The Big Lie #7 The Palestinian attacks on Israeli civilians is due to their frustration with Israel s occupation. Much of the media excuses Palestinians who target civilian Israeli Jews because they say they are utterly frustrated with the occupation. However, the brutality of the barbaric attack by Palestinians on two Israeli soldiers that made a wrong turn into Gaza cannot be explained by such reasoning. A Palestinian mob went to the jail where the soldiers were being held, broke in, threw the soldiers out the window and the mob killed them with their bare hands, ripped out their eyes and gutted them, tearing out their organs as prizes, parading their bloodied hands and the soldiers body parts around the street. This is hardly the normal behavior of utterly frustrated citizenry. This was, rather, the act of a very dark, hideously evil people. Israelis, on the other hand, only target terrorist perpetrators and take great care to avoid injury to civilians. Their prisoners are protected and treated in a just and proper way. In contrast, Arabs often use civilians as shields, being assured that there will be a worldwide outcry if the Israelis even accidentally kill a child or a non-combatant. The Big Lie #8 The Palestinians are poor and without jobs because of the Israeli occupation. In spite of the billions of dollars that have been poured into the coffers of the Palestinian government for humanitarian relief, the people remain poor and desperate, without jobs and without hope. The plight of the Palestinians is that their own leaders have chosen to keep them in poverty and ignorance in order to gain worldwide sympathy as they appear to be the victims of Israel s occupation. The leadership uses the educational system to teach hatred of Israel and Western Society, and squanders the substantial aid on weapons of warfare and on lining the pockets of the leadership. The New York Times and several foreign papers, for instance, have reported that Arafat hid billions of dollars in many foreign banks. The Big Lie #9 The wall the Israelis have constructed separates the Palestinians from their fields and employment. The infamous wall is actually a security fence. The only places where a wall has been constructed is in cities where Palestinian snipers were firing upon Israelis from tall buildings. The wall was constructed to eliminate that danger. The security fence follows roughly the path of the Green Line the line formed by the truce that followed the 1948 War of Independence. Statistics show that since the installation of the security fence in Judea-Samaria (the West 4 / 6

Bank), attacks there have dropped dramatically. It has been proven to have saved innumerable lives in the process 90 percent of the 480 people murdered in Palestinian terrorist attacks originating in Samaria were killed before the fence was built in that area. The Big Lie #10 The Palestinians were driven out of their homes by the Israelis in 1948. Arabs were not driven out of their homes following the UN decision on Partition in 1948. Rather, the Arabs were encouraged to leave Israel by Arab leaders who promised to purge the land of Jews. They promised that they could return after the purge. Most left without ever seeing an Israeli soldier. The number of Arab refugees who left Israel in 1948 is estimated to be around 630,000. The number of Jewish refugees who were forced to flee from Arab lands due to Arab brutality, persecution and pogroms is estimated to be about the same. The Big Lie #11 The New Testament does not record a desire by Christians to see Israel restored as a nation. The first century Church was eagerly looking forward to Israel being restored to its former status of Chief of the Nations (Jeremiah 31:7). In fact, the Book of Acts records a conversation between the risen Jesus and His disciples in which they ask Him, L-rd, will You at this time restore the kingdom to Israel? He responds, It is not for you to know times or seasons which the Father has put in His own authority. Jesus did NOT tell them that He would never restore Israel but, instead, said that it was not for them to know G-d s timing of that event. The Big Lie #12 The First Century Church was not looking for the Temple to be rebuilt. It is apparent that there will be a third Temple in Israel before the L-rd returns because the apostle John, in the Book of Revelation, was told by an angel to measure the temple of G-d (Rev. 11:1). Therefore, it must be assumed that the early church expected G-d s Temple to be present during the period of which John spoke. In order for the third Temple to be built, Israel must be a nation and must be in possession of the Temple Mount. The Bible teaches that Jesus is returning literally to the earth to rule and reign (Zech. 14:4; Acts 1:11; Rev. 19:15). However, He is not returning until the nation of Israel acknowledges Yeshua (Jesus). As He prepared to go to the cross, wept over Jerusalem and spoke prophetically to that nation, You will not see me again until you say, Blessed is He who comes in the name of the L-rd! John the revelator recorded that when Jesus comes back, every eye 5 / 6

will see Him, even they who pierced Him Putting together the counsel of these two Scriptures, no one will see Jesus until the nation of Israel acknowledges Him as L-rd. The L-rd, Himself, also speaks of this fact in the Old Testament in saying to Hosea, I will return again to My place till they acknowledge their offense. Then they will seek My face; in their affliction they will earnestly seek Me. (Hosea 5:15) The way to dispel lies is to propagate truth. Christians should have a ready answer to all who would try to perpetuate the lies of Israel s enemies. And, if we want to see the return of the L-rd, it is G-d s wisdom to Pray for the peace of Jerusalem and seek her good (Psalm 122:6-9), proclaiming, O L-rd, save Your people, the remnant of Israel! (Jeremiah 31:7). Taking any other position is taking a stand with the enemies of G-d. 6 / 6
