The Holy Eucharist Rite II 10:00 am Worship in the Episcopal Church involves body mind and spirit. We stand to praise and pray. We sit to listen and learn. We sometimes kneel in silent meditation. No matter which prayer posture you choose, we want you to feel comfortable in your own style of worship here at Christ Episcopal Church. Prelude: Toccata in C Processional Hymn: #580 God who stretched the spangled heavens J.S.Bach Salutation and response BCP 355 Blessed be God; Father, Son and Holy Spirit And Blessed be God s kingdom, now and for ever. Amen. Collect for Purity Almighty God, to you all hearts are open, all desires known, and from you no secrets are hid: Cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by the inspiration of your Holy Spirit, that we may perfectly love you, and worthily magnify your holy Name; through Christ our Lord. Amen. Gloria: 2

The Lord be with you. And also with you. Let us pray. Collect of the Day BCP 233 O God, because without you we are not able to please you, mercifully grant that your Holy Spirit may in all things direct and rule our hearts; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen. Please be seated. The Word of God A reading from the Book of Exodus 14:19-31 Psalm 114 BCP 759-757 3

Hallelujah! When Israel came out of Egypt, the house of Jacob from a people of strange speech, Judah became God's sanctuary and Israel his dominion. The sea beheld it and fled; Jordan turned and went back. The mountains skipped like rams, and the little hills like young sheep. What ailed you, O sea, that you fled? O Jordan, that you turned back? You mountains, that you skipped like rams? you little hills like young sheep? Tremble, O earth, at the presence of the Lord, at the presence of the God of Jacob, Who turned the hard rock into a pool of water and flint-stone into a flowing spring. Antiphon Antiphon Antiphon Antiphon A reading from the Letter of Paul to the Romans 14:1-12 Sequence Hymn: #593, Lord, make us servants of your peace verses 1-3 The Gospel of Our Lord Jesus Christ according to Matthew 18:21-35 Glory to you, Lord Christ. The Gospel of the Lord. Praise to you, Lord Christ. Sequence Hymn: # 593, Lord, make us servants of your peace verses 4&5 The Sermon Rev. Paul Habersang The Nicene Creed BCP 358 We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen. We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father. Through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down 4

from heaven: by the power of the Holy Spirit he became incarnate from the Virgin Mary, and was made man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end. We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son. With the Father and the Son he is worshiped and glorified. He has spoken through the Prophets. We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen. Prayers of the People Let us pray for the church and for the world. Grant, Almighty God, that all who confess your Name may be united in your truth, live together in your love, and reveal your glory in the world. Lord in your mercy, Hear our prayer. Guide the people of this land, and of all the nations, in the ways of justice and peace; that we may honor one another and serve the common good. Lord in your mercy, Hear our prayer. Give us all a reverence for the earth as your own creation, that we may use its resources rightly in the service of others and to your honor and glory. Lord in your mercy, Hear our prayer. Bless all whose lives are closely linked with ours, and grant that we may serve Christ in them, and love one another as he loves us. Lord, in your mercy, Hear our prayer. Comfort and heal all those who suffer in body, mind or spirit: give them courage and hope in their troubles and bring them the joy of your salvation. Today we pray for: Ida, Ernest, Charlotte, Mary Helen, Bob, Joan(Joanne), Sally, Nancy, Jackie, Susan, Evan, Maria, Geoffrey, Sarah and for those whom you wish to name either silently or aloud. 5

Lord in your mercy, Hear our prayer. For those who rest in Christ, for all the dead, and for those persons you wish to remember either silently or aloud. (After a brief silence, the leader and people respond.) Lord in your mercy, Hear our prayer. And in conclusion, let us together pray the prayer to end homelessness. An open door, A roof above, Safe homes for all, In the power of love. The Concluding Collect Confession and Absolution Let us confess our sins against God and our neighbor. Most merciful God, we confess that we have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done, and by what we have left undone. We have not loved you with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. We are truly sorry and we humbly repent. For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ, have mercy on us and forgive us; that we may delight in your will, and walk in your ways, to the glory of your Name. Amen. Almighty God have mercy on you, forgive you all your sins through our Lord Jesus Christ, strengthen you in all goodness, and by the power of the Holy Spirit keep you in eternal life. Amen. The Peace The peace of the Lord be always with you. And also with you. We encourage you to offer your neighbor a sign of peace! 6

The Holy Communion All are welcome to receive communion at our Lord s table! In addition to traditional consecrated bread and wine, consecrated gluten free hosts and grape juice are available upon request. The Offertory Offertory Anthem: For Peace Michael Sitton Doxology : Hymn: #380 Verse 1 From all that dwell below the skies let the Creator's praise arise! Let the Redeemer's Name be sung through every land, by every tongue! The Great Thanksgiving BCP 361 The Lord be with you. And also with you. Lift up your hearts. We lift them to the Lord. Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. It is right to give God thanks and praise. It is right, and a good and joyful thing, always and everywhere to give thanks to you, Father Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth. Through Jesus Christ our Lord; who on the first day of the week overcame death and the grave, and by his glorious resurrection opened to us the way of everlasting life. Therefore we praise you, joining our voices with Angels and Archangels and with all the company of heaven, who for ever sing this hymn to proclaim the glory of your Name: 7

Sanctus John Wells Holy and gracious Father: In your infinite love you made us for yourself; and, when we had fallen into sin and become subject to evil and death, you, in your mercy, sent Jesus Christ, your only and eternal Son, to share our human nature, to live and die as one of us, to reconcile us to you, the God and Father of all. He stretched out his arms upon the cross, and offered himself, in obedience to your will, a perfect sacrifice for the whole world. On the night he was handed over to suffering and death, our Lord Jesus Christ took bread; and when he had given thanks to you, he broke it, and gave it to his disciples, and said, Take, eat: This is my Body, which is given for you. Do this for the remembrance of me. After supper he took the cup of wine; and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them, and said, Drink this, all of you: This is my Blood of the new Covenant, which is shed for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins. Whenever you drink it, do this for the remembrance of me. Therefore we proclaim the mystery of faith: 8

Christ has died. Christ is risen. Christ will come again. We celebrate the memorial of our redemption, O Father, in this sacrifice of praise and thanksgiving. Recalling his death, resurrection, and ascension, we offer you these gifts. Sanctify them by your Holy Spirit to be for your people the Body and Blood of your Son, the holy food and drink of new and unending life in him. Sanctify us also that we may faithfully receive this holy Sacrament, and serve you in unity, constancy, and peace; and at the last day bring us with all your saints into the joy of your eternal kingdom. All this we ask through your Son Jesus Christ. By him, and with him, and in him, in the unity of the Holy Spirit all honor and glory is yours, Almighty Father, now and for ever. Amen. The Lord s Prayer BCP 364 The Breaking of the Bread Fraction Anthem Distribution of Communion Communion Anthem: Khutso (Peace) Traditional South African Communion Hymn: #597, O day of peace The Postcommunion Prayer BCP 366 Almighty and everliving God, we thank you for feeding us with the spiritual food of the most precious Body and Blood of your Son our Savior Jesus Christ; and for assuring us in these holy mysteries that we are living members of the Body of your Son, and heirs of 9

your eternal kingdom and now, Father send us out to do the work you have given us to do, to love and serve you as faithful witnesses of Christ our Lord. To him, to you, and to the Holy Spirit, be honor and glory, now and fore ever. Amen. The Blessing Recessional Hymn #347, Go forth for God Postlude: A Mighty Fortress is Our God The Dismissal Welcome!
