CHURCH OF ST. THERESA, BRONX SEPTEMBER 30, 2012 TWENTY-SIXTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME Dear Parishioners, I am writing to you about our Making All Things New Campaign which we began some time ago. As you recall this campaign was to improve, repair and maintain our magnificent church properties. As we move into the future this campaign initiative was established to create a process for strategic parish planning. Its purpose is to make sure that Mass, the sacraments, and the Faith life of all our parishioners will be available to everyone now and in the future. During one of the most challenging economic moments in our Nation s history many of our parishioners have made sacrifices to assist our parish in addressing our present financial challenges. Through the multi-tiered approach we can grow even stronger as our parish moves into the future. Out of our present parish base of about 1600 active parish families only 200 families stepped forward to pledge to this bold but vital endeavor. These families have pledged about $450,000 over a three year period. As of today we have received $250,000. From this we have installed a back flow pump in the school to the cost of $25,000. This pump was mandated by the city of New York. For the past year and a half Joe Torrioni, Gino Segreti and I have been in negotiations with the building commission of the Archdiocese to replace the boiler in the school building. As of today the estimated cost to replace the boiler and to convert from oil to gas heat is $250,000 - $300,000. We hope that by the spring of 2013 we will begin work on replacing the school boiler. As a point of information if any parish family who has not yet made a pledge and find themselves in a position now to make a pledge, please contact the Rectory. Our needs are real and the opportunity for families to participate is ongoing. There is much more yet to be done and with your financial and prayerful support we will meet these challenges. TRAINING FOR NEW ALTAR SERVERS There will be a training session for all those who recently applied to be altar servers, on Saturday, October 6, 2012 at 11:00AM. All altar servers in high school are asked to attend the session to help the new servers. We also remind all current altar servers to check the schedule for the masses they are listed to serve, and to be there for those masses. Please remember to find a replacement if you are unable to serve your mass. DONATIONS FOR SANCTUARY LAMP Over the past few years many people have asked how they can memorialize their loved ones. Of course we have the Tree of Life which is a permanent memorial, but then there are those of us who want to do something on a weekly basis. Over the past few years we began taking donations for Altar Bread in memory of our loved ones, and each week their name and the name of the donor is posted in the bulletin. We are also taking donations for the burning of the Sanctuary Lamp. If you are interested in memorializing your loved one in any way, please call the Rectory and reserve a week. We hope this will help those who want to remember their loved ones in any of these ways. Please continue to share the peace and joy of our faith with others. There are so many out there that are in the need of Jesus. Can you be for all of us, a living sign to all our parishioners and neighbors and tell them for us we need them and love them. Someone may hear and accept the invitation from you and return home to worship the Lord with us. So please invite a friend, relative, or neighbor to come with you to Church on Sundays.
