Bishop Eaton will open the triennial that Thursday evening followed by time to explore personal and communal transformation through Bible study, worship, learning opportunities, song, film and art. We will learn what it means to become All Anew and how we can carry our transformation into a world that seeks renewal. Nobel Peace Prize winner Leyman Gbowee (LAY-ma Bo-ee) will be one of the keynote speakers. She is known for assembling thousands of women who prayed in the streets of Liberia, eventually putting an end to the Second Liberian Civil War in 2003. Registration is now open. Adult registration is $310 for the entire triennial. Adult Friday or Saturday registration (one day only) is $175. Early bird registration ends January 6, 2017. The North Conference of the La Crosse Synod is planning on getting a bus for a one-day trip to the Tenth Triennial either Friday, July 14 th or Saturday, July 15 th. WHAT WOULD YOU WANT FRIDAY OR SATURDAY? We need to reserve a bus ASAP for one of these days. Please let us know by Halloween what your wishes are. Please inform Ruth Scholtz ( escholze@centurytel.net) (phone # 608*526-3064) or Deb Sveen (cmsveen@hotmail.com) (phone # 608-525- 3000) as to how many from your unit would go and what day is preferred. (Continue onto next page )

(Continue from page one) The North Conference has already set aside $415 and hopes to add to this at our 2017 Spring Event. As far as we can figure it will cost one person anywhere from $5 to $15 to ride the bus. It is hoped to have the main pickup be in Galesville with a stop at Alma. The bus holds 55, so reservations are needed. Wouldn t it be wonderful if we needed to get two buses?! More information about the Triennial can be found at www.welcatg.org. La Crosse Area Synod WELCA Fall Renewal Serving Our Neighbors Together Held October 15, 2016, at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, La Crosse, WI A very productive and informative day was planned for our annual Fall Renewal. Those who attended found Our Redeemer s people to be very welcoming and hospitable. Retired Pastor Ron Nowland led us in opening devotions followed by the Call to Order by Kathleen Sumrall, President. From here we attended workshops that included speakers from: Catholic Charities, Couleecap, Lutheran Social Services, Lutheran World Relief, and Thrivent. Much useful information about the purpose and activities of these organizations was gathered. For example, a very useful resource guide of services Trempealeau County from family & children resources, health care, food distribution, legal services, transportation, etc. was made available as well as information for surrounding communities. The offering collected this day was $600.00. One half of it was designated for flooding in our area and the other half is to go to Sugar Creek to help with flooding issues. Also shared were totals so far collected from the conferences in regards to quilts made, LWR kits assembled, etc. The Conferences held meetings, too. Our spring event will the June 14 or 21, 2017, at South Beaver Creek Lutheran Church. Our bus to the Triennial was also discussed, and we need to know by Halloween what day we want to go to this. The last item of the day was a presentation outlining the various activities and opportunities of the 10 th Triennial. Our La Crosse Synod WELCA has scholarships available to help with registrations to this convention. Be sure to ask if this is something you d like to know more about.

Perhaps you ve written a note to encourage a young person early in her career, to affirm her gifts and reassure her that she has the skills to meet challenges. Paul writes such a message to Timothy, the young evangelist who faced many challenges. Paul encourages and reminds him that he is responsible for rekindling his own spiritual gifts and using them well. Paul also tells Timothy that his gifts are connected to the spiritual gifts of other people. Timothy s sincere faith is the faith that first lived in his mother and grandmother; and, he received a gift of God through the hands of Paul, his contemporary and mentor. From Providing for Our Spiritual Gifts by Emma Crossen in the October 2012 issue of Interchange It is the goal of this newsletter that the 18 churches of the North Conference of the La Crosse Synod use this for WELCA ministry. The intentions are to have this newsletter come out four times a year: January, April, July, and October. All items for inclusion are requested by the first of these respective months: December, March, June, and September. All items are to be sent to Deb Sveen, NC Coordinator, N24431 Lunde Coulee, Ettrick, WI 54627. Phone number is 608-525-3000. E-mail: cmsveen@hotmail.com
