The e-link Jan 2019 Fairview United Methodist Church Maryville, Tennessee January 13 - January 19, 2019 From the Pastor s Desk If you were able to be in the sanctuary on Sunday morning, or perhaps if you watched online, you know we experienced very powerful worship on the first Sunday of the year. While every experience of worship should in some way be power-filled, last Sunday was certainly no exception. Sometimes we can be guilty of saying, Well, I didn t get anything out of worship today. I have heard repeatedly in recent weeks (sometimes attributed to Francis Chan) the appropriate response to that statement is, That s okay, we weren t here to worship you anyway! God is the one who we seek to please by our worship. Last Sunday we began a new series: FINISH: Find, Intercede, Network, Invest, Serve, Harvest. If there s a single verse of scripture that undergirds this series, it is Acts 20:24 (NLT) But my life is worth nothing to me unless I use it for finishing the work assigned me by the Lord Jesus - the work of telling others the Good News about the wonderful grace of God. While Paul is the one who says that in The Acts of the Apostles, the reality is our being saved and baptized bestows on us the same commission - we too are assigned the work of telling others about Jesus and the wonderful grace of God. Undoubtedly, Paul was passionate! Some of us were passionate, we were on fire when we first became believers; some have lost our passion/fire, others are burning as brightly as ever as a witness for Jesus. Some need to Find their passion again, some simply need to use the passion they have and Find someone who doesn t know Jesus and tell them about Him and the wonderful grace of God. This week we re going to focus on the word Intercede. I want to give you a couple of Scripture passages that we will be looking at: Romans 8:26-27 & Colossians 4:2-6. We are going to be talking about being devoted in prayer, interceding for the lost, and faithfully living into how God directs us. Can I say this is risky business? We say we believe prayer changes things. Sometimes, we are the one who ends up changed. Gilbert Harris has told me his father, Tom Harris, would say, You can t pray for someone to come to Christ, without asking the question, How is God going to use me? That s what I mean by risky. Friends, this is going to be an amazing year. I look forward to our being together! With my love and prayers, Pastor Mickey Download the Fairview Church app today!
