St. Rose of Lima Church 312 Ridgedale Avenue East Hanover, New Jersey 07936 www.saintroseoflimachurch.org Fourth Sunday of Easter April 22, 2018 The Easter Season is a joyful time to Confirm those who have been preparing through the RCIA for initiation into the Church or Confirmation. I ve been busy these last few days and I m very proud of the adults who have now claimed their own relationship with Christ. Congratulations to Claudia and Jorge whom I Confirmed during the 9:00am Mass last Saturday. Congratulations to Tiahna whom I Confirmed at 2:30pm last Saturday. Congratulations to Arianna whom I Confirmed last Sunday afternoon. This Saturday, April 21 st, Miss Lisa s 2 nd grade class received First Holy Communion. A joyful day was had by all. Thanks to the catechists and aides who assisted Lisa and congratulations to the children s parents and family members. Congratulations boys and girls we re very proud of you! Last Sunday night we had the Bridging ceremony during the 7:00pm Mass for our 8 th graders moving into 9 th grade. Thanks to Mrs. Caponegro and the many catechists and aides who have prepared our young people since 1 st grade. We look forward to having our young people join us in the Confirmation program this September. We look forward to Bishop Serratelli s visit this Thursday, April 26 th. Bishop will Confirm fifty-nine 10 th graders during the Confirmation Mass at 7:00pm. I look forward to giving a presentation on the life of St. Paul this coming Wednesday, April 25 th at 7:00pm in the cafeteria under the church. If you have been to the movie Paul, the Apostle, you should have lots of questions. If not, please read the Acts of the Apostles in advance. It will be both interesting and enlightening to delve into the life of the early Christian community and to understand their joys and sorrows. The presentation will last approximately ninety minutes. I received a thank you letter from Tim Potter who coordinates Bishop s Annual Appeal for our incredibly generous pledges to the Appeal. Through the generosity of many we pledged $55,000.00 to this wonderful charity which reaches people in our own diocese who are living in poverty, assists with seminarian education and gives support to poor working families with daycare for elderly parents. We had an update from Kathy at Several Sources. I m thrilled to tell you that St. Rose of Lima contributed $19,792.62 from our Lenten sacrifice. Our sacrifices will certainly help to make better lives for babies and moms and give them desperately needed stability. Thank you and God bless you. Father Owen

EARLY CHILDHOOD CENTER In the Pre-Kindergarten classes Miss Lorie s class learned about Rainbows and where they come from. Next, we created our own rainbows using what we learned in class. This week in religion, we discussed the Rosary and we made our own set of Rosary Beads using our small motor skills. In Miss Evelyn s class our domestic play area became a restaurant complete with menus, wait staff, chefs and hungry customers! We learned about how to be reverent in prayer and made our own rosary beads. We also made rainbow umbrellas to remind us of God's loving promise to "always have us covered" no matter what storms life may bring! In addition to our Rr week events, we welcomed a new addition to our classroom...our fish! We all got to suggest names for our class pet and then we all voted. The votes are all in and our new fish is now named BUBBLES!! We love having Bubbles as a part of our school family! In the Preschool classes Miss Casey s class had an exciting and busy week! We learned all about plants this week. Students learned the basic parts of a plant: stem, leaves, roots and flower. Students completed a coloring and labeling sheet with these items. We also practiced or cutting skills when we made our own paper plate flowers! Next week we will plant our own flowers and take care of them; we will also continue our flower unit and begin learning about butterflies. Miss Donna's class had a fun week! Some children had a chance to finish up painting shapes to complete their individual shape books. All children had a chance to complete the final page of their shape book and show how they can do "three star coloring" ( staying in the lines, filling in all the white spaces and using appropriate colors). They learned a diamond can also be called a rhombus! All children also had an opportunity to play at the sensory table. They truly enjoyed digging, pouring and filling containers with rice. Their craft this week was to create a cross within a heart that resembles a stained glass window. The Toddler class was busy playing and exploring in their sensory table that was filled with oatmeal this week! The children also painted bees and are learning about the signs of spring. They also enjoyed playing outside now that the weather has cooperated. The toddlers also practiced throwing and catching balls and playing with their mini basketball hoop! If you are interested in signing up for St. Rose of Lima Early Childhood Center, please call to come take a tour of our facility 973-887-1801! We have schedules for all your needs: part-time, full day and extended day!
