PRESIDENT S MESSAGE VIKKI GOLDSTEIN, SYNAGOGUE PRESIDENT I have been thinking about all the wonderful blessings we have at BNI and feeling thankful. It is a joy to see children surrounding the bima again with Rabbi Vana practicing for their Bnai mitzvot! I commend Maytal and Ben for their dedication; we all love to watch the children learn and grow! I also commend their parents for their devotion. But there are some things you may not be aware that we should also be thankful. Did you know...? We have enjoyed the smell (and taste) of fresh baked challah, muffins and cakes. Rabbi Vana has added to his culinary baking by ensuring, especially while Rebekah is out of the office, we have tasty deserts for our Shabbos oneg. That wine that you drink each Shabbat? That is provided regularly by Lou Goldstein. Lou also does laundry for BNI and house chairman duties as needed. Avi Baurberg and Stanley Schmerken are our dedicated Gabbi each week for Torah service. Stanley reads Haftorah weekly! Frank Kay arrives every Saturday to be counted to ensure a minyan and has the honor of carrying the Torah. You Can Make A DifferenceToo James Gaus is our Facebook and web page master that continues to grow in "likes" and keeps us updated on all events. He also shared he is studying with Rabbi Vana to one day also chant a haftorah! 2 Arny Pock has graciously accepted to chair the ritual committee and my Presidential favorite of "any other duties assigned". Christina Blackman publishes our stunning monthly Shofars Voice! (despite the late reports from the President and others). She also manages the Facebook page Jewish in Pensacola. Kate Lollar shops weekly and arrives early every Sunday with Benjamin Nettles to cook breakfast for religious school. We never know what to expect but it is AL- WAYS delicious and made with love (and with the help of smaller helping hands of Lindsay, Ben, Brodie and Lauren). Norman Roberts ensures the Bearman building is open and set up for when BNI hosts the Pensacola Federation sponsored Chai discussion groups. Rebekah not only completes her secretarial duties, she does so much more! She makes salads for our weekly oneg and sets up for services. She often works late even fielding emails from home, to keep BNI running smoothly. These are just a few examples of how something simple can make a difference in the lives of all our congregants and visitors! Please join me in thanks and appreciation! Don't worry... You too can make a difference! Don't forget congregational meetng Sunday November 1st. Lunch 1:00 pm and meeting 1:30pm. Shalom, Vikki

FROM OUR SHLICHA TAL ITZHAKOV Dear Community, As you know, Israel, my home is facing a wave of increasing terror attacks in the last month. I can't describe in words the feeling to be far away and to hear my friends and family describing the fear and the anxiety they feel. You are very welcome to share with me your thought, questions and feelings. I'm here for you! I also want to thank you all for coming to the "Café Israel" and for being so supportive. It s means so much to me! I hope that the following events of "Café Israel" (second Monday each month) will discuss the positive things in Israel. My country is so much more than wars and threats, and I want people to know it! On November 1 st, the PJF will do a memory program for Yitzhak Rabin. 20 years have passed since the assassinated of the Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin. In my opinion, it is so important to remember the murder and protecting our democratic values, whether in Israel or whether the United States! Don't miss it! Please feel free to contact me and inviting me to meet you. I want to get to know as much as families that I can and being involved in your life. I wish all of us peaceful days in which love and light will overcome darkness and hatred, Tal Café Israel Please join us for an interesting discussion about Israel with Tal, our new shlicha! Theme: to be announced Monday, November 9th at 6pm Cactus Flower Café, 3425 N 12th Ave, Pensacola 3

JEWISH COOKING KATE LOLLAR Katz s Egg Cream Shalom y'all! I am an avid traveler and one of my favorite places to visit, is NYC! Oh, the food! Although there are tons of different delicacies to enjoy, my absolute favorite is a slice and an egg cream! This is the all time best from Katz's deli, enjoy! Recipe: 1. Fill a glass about an inch (or so) with your favoirte chocolate syrup. *Katz's Deli uses Fox's U-Bet syrup 2. Pour an equal amount of milk 3. Top off with a little bit of seltzer and stir vigorously, simultaneously, for a frothy head Viola, you have the perfect egg cream! If you are not a chocolate lover, substitute chocolate syrup with vanilla syrup. Ess Gezunterhait! 4

RELIGIOUS SCHOOL NEWS VIKKI GOLDSTEIN, DIRECTOR OF EDUCATION We at B'nai Israel Religious School are starting our day right with a wonderful breakfast prepared by Kate Lollar and Benjamin Nettles, then off to have fun learning! We have blessings and Hebrew with Rabbi Vana. Our younger classes have been busy learning and creating crafts aboutthe holidays. Our oldest class is learning about Tikkun Olam, Tzedek (justice) and reading fromprophets and writings. Tal, our Shlica, has been such a blessing! She teaches the children about their connection to Israel through games, music, videos and food and created our Israel Board. She is loved by all our students and teachers! Thank you Shelly for all your assistance and being our bulletin board queen! Chanukah will be here soon! Look for more information to come regarding our annual Chanukah party! Vikki Goldstein 5
