The Orthodox worship service is an ancient and timeless expression of how people have loved, served and worshipped God for many centuries, but it may be a bit of a different experience for you. Please feel free to use a service book or not and simply allow the words of the service to wash over you. The central act of our worship culminates in people receiving communion. This is a very special time for us all and we have some specific beliefs about our communion together. This is why we never impose this service on those who are not prepared or are not baptized Orthodox. This service may raise questions in your mind. Please feel free to ask Fr. Barnabas or Fr. Paul anything you wish after the service. At the end of the service EVERYONE is invited to come forward and receive a portion of the blessed bread from Fr. Barnabas. EPISTLE Reading The Reading is from St. Paul s Letter to the Galatians 2:16-20 Prokeimenon. Mode 4. Psalm 103.24,1 O Lord, how manifold are your works. You have made all things in wisdom. Verse: Bless the Lord, O my soul. BRETHREN, you know that a man is not justified by works of the law but through faith in Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Christ Jesus, in order to be justified by faith in Christ, and not by works of the law, because by works of the law shall no one be justified. But if, in our endeavor to be justified in Christ, we ourselves were found to be sinners, is Christ then an agent of sin? Certainly not! But if I build up again those things which I tore down, then I prove myself a transgressor. For I through the law died to the law, that I might live to God. I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me; and the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. CHILDREN & YOUTH EDUCATION Church School September 8th THROUGH May 18, 2014 A focus on Sacraments and Feasts; Scripture and Bible Stories; Saints and Orthodox Spirituality in communion with our teachers and our children. Church School has Begun! Registration forms are in the Narthex. Pre-K through High School Students need to sign up. Father Paul has volunteered to be the Church School Director. He would like to have a meeting in the Youth Room on Sunday, November 17th, immediately after Divine Liturgy. The meeting should only be about 45 minutes and coffee and snacks will be available. I simply want to find out what everyone is doing and where you want to go. I would also like to hear any suggestions for improving our program, not that it is deficient in any way. Since we will hold the meeting during usual church shool time, church school will be cancelled on 11/17. I hope everyone can attend. Thank you, Fr.
