Special thank you to those who helped set up the tomb on Holy Thursday, those who participated in the Grave Watch and those who faithfully stood vigil so that the tomb could be venerated at all hours of the day and night. BRIGHT FRIDAY FUNDRAISER On Bright Friday (April 21), the Jr. R Club will be holding a fundraiser to help with costs of participating in the FOCA National Basketball Tournament! The Basket-Ball will be held in the Gym / Shanty from 6pm 11pm. Tickets are $20 for adults, $15 for kids 5-18 and FREE for under 5 years old. Side Boards, Chinese Raffle, Foul Shot contest for Adults and BUBBLE SOCCER for the kids! We ll have the Cavs or Indians on the big screen! Come support the Juniors and hang out with your friends! John or the church office know if you are hospitalized or know you will be hospitalized. Fr. John will visit you while you are in the hospital, but cannot visit if we don t know. THANK YOU On behalf of Zoe for Life I would like to thank all the Sunday school students and their parents who participated in our Lenten project, bottles for babies, supporting Zoe for Life. Through your generosity, we collected $320.50 plus baby items. This will be used to help moms in need in the greater Cleveland area who come to Zoe House. THE MORE YOU KNOW In the Orthodox Christian world, the Feast of our Lord s Resurrection is referred to as Pascha, the Greek transliteration of the Hebrew word Pesach, meaning Passover. As was foreshadowed by the Passover account of the Old Testament, Jesus becomes the supreme Passover (Paschal) Lamb sacrificed in a New Covenant for the remission of our sins and the salvation of our soul; laying down His life, lying in a tomb, and rising on the Third Day so that we, too, might have a way to escape or pass over from death to life. The word Easter is of Germanic origin and is derived from the name of the pagan female goddess, Eostre: goddess of the spring month of April. Because the celebration of Christ s Resurrection almost exclusively falls during that time frame, the Western world unfortunately began to identify the Paschal Feast by the calendar month; thus inadvertently misconstruing the ultimate Christian Feast with pagan terminology.
